Ujoint Offroad Introduce
For those seeking to transform their Ford E-Series vans and RVs into robust, off-road capable machines, Ujoint Offroad stands out as a highly specialized and respected entity within the "Auto Repair Stations" category. Unlike conventional repair shops that cater to a wide array of vehicles and general maintenance, Ujoint Offroad has carved a distinct niche for itself, focusing almost exclusively on enhancing the adventurous capabilities of Ford E-Series platforms. This dedication allows them to offer unparalleled expertise and custom solutions for the discerning overland and van life community.
Ujoint Offroad operates from at least two established locations: North Carolina and Colorado. While specific architectural details of their facilities are not widely publicized, the nature of their highly specialized work implies a robust and purpose-built environment. Customers can expect a professional workshop equipped with heavy-duty lifts, specialized fabrication tools, and advanced diagnostic equipment necessary for complex 4x4 conversions and significant vehicle modifications. Given the scale of their projects, which often involve integrating large axles, custom suspension systems, and specialized components, their bays are likely designed to accommodate larger vehicles like Ford E-Series vans and RVs with ample clearance and working space. The focus is on a functional and efficient workspace that facilitates intricate mechanical and fabrication work, ensuring precision and quality in every conversion. The overall atmosphere is likely one of technical competence and a passion for off-road vehicle development, catering to enthusiasts who value meticulous craftsmanship.
Ujoint Offroad's service portfolio is highly specialized, primarily centered on turn-key four-wheel drive (4WD) conversions for 1996 and newer Ford E-Series based vehicles, which includes both vans and RVs. This core service is what defines their position within the "Auto Repair Stations" category, as they are not merely repairing but fundamentally upgrading the vehicle's capabilities. Their 4x4 conversion kits, notably the first 4x4 conversion kit for the Ford E-Series in 2007, utilize axles from 1999-2004 Ford F-Series trucks, prioritizing quality and durability. They offer various lift options, with their 6-inch lift being a popular choice for its balance of wheel travel, steering, handling, and packaging. They also offer 8-inch kits.
Beyond the full 4x4 conversion, Ujoint Offroad provides a comprehensive suite of related maintenance and modification services for Ford E-Series vehicles. These include:
- Handling Improvement Modifications: Enhancing the driving dynamics and stability of these lifted vans, which is crucial for both on-road and off-road performance.
- Re-gear and Locker Installs: Optimizing gear ratios for larger tires and installing differential lockers for improved traction in challenging terrain.
- Accessory Installation: Integrating various aftermarket accessories such as winches, additional lighting, onboard air compressors, and recovery gear.
- Annual Checkups and Fluid Exchange: Essential routine maintenance to ensure the longevity and reliability of these highly modified vehicles.
- Tune-up Services, Belts and Hoses: Standard automotive maintenance tailored to the specific needs of E-Series vans.
- Steering and Suspension Upgrades: Installation of heavy-duty components like crossover steering systems, upgraded sway bars, custom-spec leaf springs, and high-performance shocks (e.g., Fox 2.0 reservoir shocks) to improve ride quality and off-road articulation.
- Differential Service and Repair: Expertise in maintaining and repairing the robust axles they integrate into their conversions, including Dana 60 and Sterling 10.5 options.
- Wheels and Tires: Advising on and installing appropriate tire and wheel combinations for off-road use, including specialized dually wheels for RVs to ensure proper load capacity and stability.
- Custom Fabrication: A significant aspect of their work involves custom fabrication for bumpers (front and rear), roof racks, and other structural enhancements designed to withstand the rigors of off-road adventures and provide additional storage and functionality.
- Expanded Capacity Fuel Tanks: Offering larger fuel tanks to extend driving range, particularly beneficial for long overland journeys.
Notably, Ujoint Offroad takes a personalized approach to each conversion, with every rig being weighed before work begins to ensure that the custom-spec springs are precisely matched to the vehicle's exact weight. This attention to detail significantly impacts driving characteristics and performance, setting them apart from competitors who might use generic lift kits.
Ujoint Offroad's strong reputation stems from several key features and a clear commitment to its customers. Their extensive experience, spanning over 16 years, in building 4x4 vans is a testament to their expertise. They are recognized for creating durable and high-quality 4x4 conversion kits, making them accessible to both professional installers and DIY enthusiasts. The company prides itself on the robustness and reliability of its conversions, with a focus on long-term performance even in harsh off-road conditions.
A significant feature is their expertise in converting RVs built on the Ford E-Series chassis, a complex undertaking that requires specialized knowledge of weight distribution and structural integrity. They prioritize safety and driveability, ensuring that even heavily modified RVs handle significantly better than their stock counterparts. Their commitment to using high-quality components, such as high-pinion Dana 60 front axles and massive SSBC brake kits, underscores their dedication to performance and safety.
Ujoint Offroad also supports the community by offering components and kits for those who prefer to perform DIY conversions, showcasing their belief in making off-road capabilities more accessible. Their transparency about lead times for turn-key installs (often several months) and parts shipping demonstrates honesty and helps manage customer expectations.
While Ujoint Offroad doesn't appear to widely advertise typical automotive repair discounts like "oil change specials" or "brake service coupons" due to their highly specialized nature, their promotional efforts are geared towards showcasing their capabilities and product offerings. They frequently share their completed projects through their official website, social media channels, and platforms like YouTube, where detailed tours of converted vans and RVs are presented. These visual showcases serve as powerful testimonials to their craftsmanship and the functionality of their conversions.
Potential customers looking to engage with Ujoint Offroad should visit their website to explore their product catalog, which details pricing for various 4x4 conversion kits and components. While the price of a full turn-key 4x4 swap starts at a significant investment (e.g., ~$30,000 for a turn-key swap, with extras adding to the cost), the value proposition lies in the specialized engineering, custom fabrication, and enhanced off-road capabilities provided. They may also highlight specific components for sale, such as axles, transfer cases, bumpers, and roof racks, allowing customers to piece together their builds or make incremental upgrades. Given the custom nature of their work, direct communication with Ujoint Offroad via email or phone is the best way for interested individuals to discuss their specific project needs, inquire about current lead times, and understand the full scope of services and associated costs. Their focus on custom solutions means that each "promotion" is often a bespoke build tailored to the client's vision and budget, rather than a generic discount.

Ujoint Offroad Customer Reviews
Ujoint equipped vans and RV’s are the best hands down. I installed a DIY kit on a E350 RV and this thing went from feeling like an overloaded minivan to a 1 ton truck. Yes it’s expensive, yes it’s very intrusive, but yes it’s completely worth it. Also worth mentioning they have excellent customer service. Thanks Chris!

Great experience Team Ujoint makes great vehicles awesome. “Do it nice or do it twice”

To give these vans off-road capability is a major project and an investment. I did a ton of research on which conversion company to trust, reading through dozens of customer reviews and detailed discussions on internet forums. I visited local shops in the Denver area and considered shops all over the country. At the end of that process, I'm glad I chose U-Joint Off Road. About a year after first contacting Chris (the owner), I pulled the trigger. From the very beginning, he answered all of my questions in detail. The entire process was also handled with the highest level of professionalism. After I dropped off the van, he communicated throughout the build with regular updates. I was able to pickup and drop off my van within the planned time-frame. He's also not a one man shop. His entire team are passionate about 4x4 vans and they care about their work. It shows in the final product and in the customer experience. If I could, I'd U-Joint Off Road 6 stars.

Had out RV converted to 4x4 here! Excellent service and workmanship! Chris took the time to make sure loose ends were tied up before our trip home!

Chris treated our turn-key build as if it was his own. Very responsive to questions and requests throughout the build process. We are over 100% satisfied with the quality and craftsmanship. Indeed, there are less expensive, inferior alternatives, however, as the saying goes, “Pay once, cry once.”
