Pine Lake Service Center Introduce

Pine Lake Service Center, located at 1213 Pne Lk Ave, La Porte, IN 46350, operates as an "Auto Repair Station" offering various vehicle maintenance and repair services to local users. You can contact them by phone at (219) 362-5122 or mobile at +1 219-362-5122. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview based on available public information and customer feedback, acknowledging both positive and negative experiences.

Environment and Facilities

Information regarding the specific environment and facilities of Pine Lake Service Center is somewhat limited through general online searches. However, typical independent auto repair shops, which this appears to be, often feature a functional workspace designed for vehicle repairs. The customer review that mentions "the whole lot is full of cars that look like they’re run down" and that "they had 2 harleys completely in pieces" suggests a bustling and possibly less organized environment compared to a modern, structured dealership or chain service center. This could imply a smaller operation that takes on a wide variety of repair jobs, potentially leading to a more cluttered appearance. The focus is likely on the mechanical work itself rather than a polished customer waiting area, though a basic reception space would be expected for customer interaction.

Services Offered

Based on customer reviews, Pine Lake Service Center provides a range of automotive repair services. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Tire Repair: One positive review specifically highlights a successful flat tire repair, suggesting this is a service they competently provide. The customer expressed gratitude for a quick and effective plug repair that got them "back on the road."
  • Transmission Rebuilds: A detailed customer review indicates that the shop undertakes significant repairs, including transmission rebuilds. This suggests they have the capability and equipment to handle complex internal component work for major vehicle systems.
  • Engine Work/Sensor Replacement: The long customer review also mentions charges for "knock sensors" and implied engine work, suggesting they also deal with engine diagnostics and repairs.
  • General Automotive Repair: Given their nature as an auto repair station, it is reasonable to assume they also provide other common services like brake repair, oil changes, suspension work, and diagnostics, though these are not explicitly detailed in the provided reviews.

The review mentioning "2 harleys completely in pieces" could imply that the shop also services motorcycles or at least has experience with various types of vehicles, beyond just standard cars and trucks.

Features and Customer Experiences

The customer reviews for Pine Lake Service Center present a mixed picture, highlighting both positive and significantly negative aspects of their service. This duality is a crucial feature for potential customers to consider.

Positive Features:
  • Quick and Efficient Minor Repairs: For simple, unplanned issues like a flat tire, the service center demonstrated promptness and effectiveness. The customer's gratitude for "patience and availability" suggests a willingness to assist in immediate needs.
  • Initial Satisfaction with Major Repairs: The customer who had a transmission rebuilt was "very happy" initially after getting the truck back, indicating that the initial major repair seemed successful.
Negative Features and Concerns:

The detailed negative review outlines significant concerns that potential customers should be aware of:

  • Questionable Diagnostic Practices and Unnecessary Repairs: The customer describes being told "nothing was wrong with the transmission" when experiencing issues well under warranty, and instead being charged over $700 for "knock sensors." This raises a red flag regarding their diagnostic accuracy and honesty in recommending repairs. The subsequent deterioration of the vehicle's condition after this "engine work" further amplifies these concerns.
  • Lack of Accountability and Warranty Adherence: Despite the transmission still being under warranty and the customer reporting ongoing issues, the shop allegedly denied problems and later refused to honor the warranty after the transmission failed completely. This is a severe breach of professional conduct and consumer trust.
  • Unprofessionalism and Rudeness: The most alarming aspect of the negative review is the described interaction with the mechanic, involving verbal abuse ("YOU KNOW WHAT YOURE A STUPID SON OF A “B” AND I DONT CARE IF I EVER SEE YOU AGAIN MOTHER F”””cker!!!") and hanging up the phone. Such behavior is highly unprofessional and indicates a severe lack of customer service ethics.
  • Perceived Lack of Competence and Outdated Practices: The mechanic's claim of being "the best around and the only one doing transmissions anymore" is juxtaposed with the truck's worsening condition and the customer's need to perform self-repairs. The customer also states, "the mechanic is well past his time of being reliable," suggesting concerns about outdated knowledge or practices.
  • Shop Appearance as a "Red Flag": The observation that "the whole lot is full of cars that look like they’re run down" and that the shop takes on "anything" (referencing Harleys in pieces) is presented as a "major red flag." This could imply disorganization, overextension, or a lack of specialization that might compromise the quality of work.
  • Trust and Honesty Issues: The strong recommendation to "STAY AS FAR AWAY FROM THIS SHOP AS POSSIBLE" and "DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE with your vehicles time or money" speaks volumes about the customer's loss of trust due to perceived dishonesty and egregious conduct.

The contrasting reviews suggest that while the shop might handle very simple, immediate fixes adequately, customers should exercise extreme caution and potentially seek multiple opinions, especially for more complex or costly repairs like transmission or engine work, and be prepared for potential challenges in communication and professionalism.

Promotional Information

Based on the available information, there is no explicit promotional information for Pine Lake Service Center. Independent repair shops often rely on word-of-mouth and their local reputation rather than large-scale advertising. However, the first customer's positive experience with a flat tire fix could be considered a form of positive word-of-mouth promotion, highlighting their ability to provide quick assistance in emergencies. Conversely, the extensive negative review serves as a significant deterrent, overriding any potential positive perception from limited positive feedback.

In conclusion, Pine Lake Service Center in La Porte, IN, appears to be an independent auto repair shop capable of addressing basic and emergency tire repairs with promptness and helpfulness. However, for more intricate or significant mechanical issues, the highly concerning customer feedback regarding transmission work, diagnostic accuracy, professionalism, and customer service raises serious questions about the reliability and trustworthiness of the establishment. Potential customers are strongly advised to consider these diverse experiences and proceed with considerable caution, especially for major vehicle repairs, and to prioritize shops with consistently positive and detailed reviews that affirm professional standards and customer care.

Thank you Scott for helping me get back on the road with an unplanned flat tire. The tire was fixed with a plug and we were on our way. Just wanted to thank you for your patience and availability.

Please read all! I had a transmission rebuilt here in my 2005 Silverado got the truck back and was very happy. However, after some time I noticed some off rpm behavior and took the truck back. I explained that there seemed to be something wrong with the transmission and it was well under warranty. The 70 something year old mechanic says he’s the best around and the only one doing transmissions anymore, what a joke! He told me and my father that there was nothing wrong with the transmission and we had no idea what we were talking about. He said there could be something wrong with the knock sensors and that could mess with what we called a transmission issue.. so I paid him $700+ for knock sensors. The day I picked up the truck it died on the way home it had never died in 2 years I had owned it and also on the way from his shop my check engine light started flashing we immediately had the truck pulled home instead of driving it and called the shop and explained they said bring it back.. we had a problem with this because it seemed much worse than it had ever been the engine was knocking very very loudly I have videos of proof. I ended up replacing some engine parts myself and was able to salvage the damage he had done to my truck.. so I thought for the next few months the truck was my daily back and fourth to work and nothing else never pulled a trailer never any strain on the transmission, taken well care of. Out of nowhere on the way to work I lost the same two gears that had previously went out causing me to have the transmission rebuilt in the first place. While I was at work the same day my dad had called the shop and gotten cussed out and hung up on. WHILE IM AT WORK this old man calls me and says “so your transmission went out” and I explained the hole situation. “You rebuilt my transmission, I brought it back saying something wasn’t right. You told me I was wrong and had no clue what I was talking about and charged me 700+ for engine work ( that another mechanic later explained should had been no more than a two hour 300$ max job) and the truck ran worse after I had gotten it back.. now just a few months later of normal every day driving the transmission is out and the truck is undrivable” he said “well do you want to bring the truck over and let me check it out” and I said “ are you going to make it right or are you going to charge me to get back a broken vehicle “ he proceeded to tell me “YOU KNOW WHAT YOURE A STUPID SON OF A “B” AND I DONT CARE IF I EVER SEE YOU AGAIN MOTHER F”””cker!!!” And then hung up the phone I would highly recommend to stay as far away from this shop as possible not only is the mechanic well past his time of being reliable but he is extremely unprofessional and rude. A major red flag should be that the shop will take on anything when we walked into the place once they had 2 harleys completely in pieces and the whole lot is full of cars that look like they’re run down. If you have any questions for me personally please feel free to contact me I will 100% be honest about my entire experience with this business but please DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE with your vehicles time or money there are plenty of honest mechanics within the area who will be professional and up front about mistakes or faulty parts or whatever the case may be.

I live in Valparaiso and I still won’t take my vehicles anywhere but here. It’s hard to find a good and honest mechanic like Ken. Can’t say enough good things about this place.

Honest people. They are very reasonable. They rebuilt my transmission a few years back. I shopped around. Best price for quality work
