This shop, which was formerly known as Trachsel Body & Paint, has been acquired and transformed into a state-of-the-art center under the Mackin's Auto Body umbrella. The environment at Mackin's Salem Auto Body is designed to handle comprehensive collision repairs. As a modern auto body shop, you can expect a professional and organized facility equipped with advanced tools and technology necessary for intricate repairs, including those for newer vehicle models like Teslas. The repair bays are typically clean and well-maintained, indicating a focus on precision and quality workmanship. The front office area is usually set up to comfortably assist customers with estimates, insurance paperwork, and updates on their vehicle's repair status. The aim is to create a streamlined process for clients navigating the often stressful experience of vehicle damage.
Operating hours are generally Monday through Thursday from 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM, and on Friday from 7:30 AM to 12:00 PM, catering to the needs of working individuals in Downtown Salem, Grant, West Salem, Keizer, Four Corners, South Central, and surrounding communities.
Mackin's Salem Auto Body, as a full-service collision repair center, provides a wide array of services aimed at restoring vehicles to their pre-accident condition. Their services extend beyond simple dent removal to encompass more complex structural and aesthetic repairs. Key offerings include:
- Collision Repair: This is their primary service, addressing damage sustained in accidents, ranging from minor fender benders to significant structural damage. This includes repairing or replacing body panels, bumpers, and other exterior components.
- Auto Body Painting: They offer professional auto painting services, including expert color matching to ensure a seamless blend with the vehicle's original finish. This is crucial for maintaining the vehicle's aesthetic integrity after repairs.
- Frame Repair: For vehicles that have sustained structural damage, Mackin's is equipped to perform frame straightening and repair, which is essential for the vehicle's safety and alignment. Their Tesla certification suggests they have the specific equipment and training for complex structural repairs on these advanced vehicles.
- Bumper & Fender Repair: Specializing in the repair or replacement of damaged bumpers and fenders, common areas for minor and moderate collision impacts.
- Dent Repair: This can include traditional dent repair methods (involving bodywork and paint) as well as potentially paintless dent repair (PDR) for minor dents where the paint is intact, though collision repair is their main focus.
- Restoration Services: While their primary focus is collision repair, as a comprehensive auto body shop, they may also engage in minor restoration work to bring older vehicles back to their former glory, especially concerning bodywork and paint.
- Tesla Certified Repair: A significant feature is their certification as a Tesla-Approved Body Shop. This means they are specifically trained and equipped to handle repairs on Tesla vehicles, including structural components and ordering genuine Tesla parts. This certification is critical for Tesla owners, ensuring repairs meet manufacturer standards and maintain the vehicle's warranty and performance.
The shop’s ability to perform structural repairs on Teslas indicates a high level of technical capability and investment in specialized equipment. They can manage both minor and major repairs, signifying their comprehensive approach to collision damage.
Mackin's Salem Auto Body strives to provide a professional and customer-focused experience, evident in several key features:
- Tesla Certification: As a Tesla-Approved Body Shop, they possess the specialized training, tools, and access to genuine parts required to properly repair Tesla vehicles. This is a crucial feature for owners of these advanced electric vehicles, ensuring the integrity and safety of their cars are maintained.
- Insurance Coordination: A strong emphasis is placed on working seamlessly with all insurance companies. This feature aims to simplify the claims process for customers, reducing their out-of-pocket expenses and managing the administrative burden. Customers have specifically praised their ability to "work with insurance to not result in out of pocket costs."
- Professional and Kind Staff: Customer reviews highlight the professionalism and kindness of the individuals working at Mackin's. This personal touch is vital in a service industry, especially during stressful times like vehicle accidents.
- Consistent Communication: Customers report being "kept updated every step of the way," which is a significant positive. Transparent and regular communication about repair progress, part orders, and timelines helps manage customer expectations and reduces anxiety.
- Lifetime Warranty: Mackin's offers a lifetime warranty on all body repairs for as long as the customer owns the vehicle. This demonstrates confidence in their workmanship and provides long-term peace of mind for clients.
- Free Estimates: They provide free estimates for collision damage, allowing customers to understand the scope and cost of repairs upfront. Customers can typically submit photos online to get the process started.
- Long-Standing Reputation: With over 80 years in business (across the Mackin's Auto Body group), the company has a strong reputation in the Pacific Northwest for quality collision repair. The Salem location, while a newer addition to the Mackin's family (acquired in 2023), benefits from this established legacy.
However, it is important to address the varying customer experiences, particularly regarding repair timelines. While one customer highly recommended the shop for their professional service and effective communication, another detailed a "staggering 101 days" to repair a Tesla, with a significant delay occurring after parts were received. This suggests that while communication and repair quality may be high, potential customers should be aware that extended repair times can occur, especially for complex or part-dependent repairs on specialized vehicles like Teslas. The review specifically calls into question the efficiency of management in handling these prolonged delays.
The lengthy repair time experienced by one customer, extending significantly beyond the typical insurance-covered rental period, highlights a potential challenge that future customers should consider. While the review praises the employees, it critically points to management regarding the delays. This indicates that while the repair quality might be satisfactory, the efficiency of the overall process for some complex repairs could be a point of concern for customers relying on timely vehicle return.
While specific, time-limited promotions may vary, Mackin's Salem Auto Body consistently offers advantages that serve as ongoing benefits for their customers:
- Insurance Claim Assistance: Their commitment to "personally handle insurance claims" and work to minimize out-of-pocket costs acts as a significant financial benefit for customers dealing with accident damage. This streamlines a complex process and alleviates financial stress.
- Lifetime Warranty on Repairs: The provision of a lifetime warranty on all body repairs (for as long as you own the vehicle) is a powerful assurance of quality and a long-term benefit, effectively promoting the durability and reliability of their work.
- Free Estimates: Offering free, no-obligation estimates allows potential customers to assess their repair needs and costs without initial financial commitment. This transparency is a key promotional aspect.
- Specialization in Advanced Vehicles: Being a Tesla-Approved Body Shop is a strong selling point for Tesla owners in the area, offering a specialized service that not all body shops can provide. This targets a specific, growing segment of the automotive market.
- Focus on Customer Updates: While a service feature, the commitment to "keeping customers updated every step of the way" promotes a transparent and reassuring repair process, which is a significant factor in customer satisfaction and repeat business.
For the most current information on services, specific repair capabilities, and any ongoing special offers or financing options, it is recommended to directly contact Mackin's Salem Auto Body via phone or visit their official website. When considering a visit, especially for extensive repairs or specialized vehicles, it would be prudent to discuss potential timelines thoroughly to manage expectations and understand the implications for rental car coverage.

Highly recommend mackins for your auto body repairs. I had my Tesla hit and after shopping around for auto body repair shops I finally found one that would actually work with insurance to not result in out of pocket costs. The individuals I worked with were nothing but professional and kind. They kept me updated every step of the way, the whole process took about a month, as they had to order some parts and the damage to the car was much more extensive than previously thought. I would come back here in a heartbeat if I needed to get my car repaired again and I highly recommend it to everyone

101 Days to repair a Tesla Fender Bender, Is Mackin’s Salem Auto Body Worth It? I recently had my Tesla at Mackin’s Salem Auto Body for repairs, and unfortunately, my experience was far from ideal. I dropped off my car on September 16, 2024, and the shop quickly got approval from my insurance company a few weeks later. According to Mackin’s text updates, they received all the necessary parts on October 24, 2024. However, after receiving the parts, it took them an additional 61 days to repair my car. In total, my Tesla was at the body shop for a staggering 101 days. While I understand that repairs can take time, 61 days to begin work after all parts were received seems excessive and unjustified based on Mackin’s text updates. As someone who knows a former owner of multiple body shops in the Pacific Northwest with over 30 years of industry experience, I was curious about the reasons for the delay. After asking him several questions, it became clear that the wait time was not excusable given the circumstances. This raises an important question: Should Mackin’s Salem Auto Body remain certified by Tesla? Tesla’s certified repair network is intended to ensure high-quality, timely service, and such extensive delays could negatively impact the reputation of that network. I wonder if Tesla is aware of these prolonged wait times. While the repair was ultimately completed, including some suspension damage that was quickly repaired according to the shop’s text updates, the long wait left me disappointed. It’s important to note that this review is not meant to blame the employees at Mackin’s—they do the best they can with the resources available. The responsibility for these delays falls squarely on the management and owners, who should be doing everything in their power to speed up the process. I hope this review helps others understand what they might be in for if they choose Mackin’s for repairs. Do you want to wait 101 days for your car to be repaired? Additionally, remember that Tesla has multiple certified body shops in the Pacific Northwest, so it may be worth calling around to other Tesla Certified Body Shops to compare wait times. Also, while your auto insurance will cover up to 30 days of car rental, you will be responsible for the remaining 71 days if you need a rental. Think twice.

I called Mackin's and they scheduled me the next day to take a look at a problem with my bumper. I showed up a little early and they got to work right away. The techs and the front desk were great at communicating and very friendly. They ended up fixing my car in 15 minutes and answered any questions I had, free of charge. Will definitely be going back if I get in any accidents or need any other bodywork.

I was hit by a drunk driver on August 31st and chose Mackins to do the repairs. I got my Tahoe back today and am BEYOND thrilled with how amazing it looks. They not only have wonderful customer service but they went above and beyond to help restore my Tahoe to brand new condition. The paint matched my custom color PERFECTLY, polished the entire vehicle not just the new back end that was replaced, they detailed the inside and I think it’s the cleanest it’s ever been! I can’t say enough good things! This process stinks when you get hit and it’s completely not your fault but they helped it stink a lot less! Wyatt Prunk specifically the manager there, was THE most kind, informative and helpful person ever! Thank you Mackins!
