Specialized Services Offered

Atomic Speed Shop, as a specialized Auto Repair Station, offers a curated suite of services tailored to high-performance and custom automotive needs. While they may handle some general maintenance for performance vehicles, their primary focus lies in:

  • Performance Engine Building and Tuning: This is often a core competency, involving custom engine builds, blueprinting, forced induction (turbochargers, superchargers) installations, and precise engine tuning (including dyno tuning) to maximize horsepower and torque.
  • Custom Fabrication: Expertise in fabricating custom components, including exhaust systems, intake manifolds, roll cages, intercooler piping, and other bespoke parts essential for performance and safety in modified vehicles.
  • Suspension and Handling Upgrades: Installation and tuning of performance suspension systems, coilovers, sway bars, and alignment services designed for track performance or enhanced street handling.
  • Drivetrain Modifications: Upgrades to transmissions, differentials, axles, and clutches to handle increased power output and improve power delivery.
  • Brake System Enhancements: Installation of big brake kits, performance pads, rotors, and braided lines to improve stopping power for high-performance applications.
  • Classic Car Restoration and Restomodding: Bringing classic vehicles back to their former glory or integrating modern performance and comfort features while retaining vintage aesthetics.
  • Race Car Preparation: Building and preparing vehicles for various forms of motorsport, including safety equipment installation, chassis setup, and competition-specific modifications.
  • Aftermarket Parts Installation: Expert installation of a wide range of aftermarket performance parts from leading brands.
  • Advanced Diagnostics for Performance Vehicles: Utilizing specialized software and equipment to diagnose complex issues in highly modified or performance-oriented vehicles that standard shops may not be equipped to handle.

Distinguishing Features and Expertise

Atomic Speed Shop sets itself apart from conventional Auto Repair Stations through several key features:

  • Specialized Expertise: Their technicians are not just mechanics; they are often enthusiasts themselves, possessing deep knowledge and experience in performance tuning, custom fabrication, and high-performance automotive systems. This specialized skill set is crucial for the unique demands of their clientele.
  • State-of-the-Art Equipment: Investment in advanced equipment like dynamometers (dynos), precision fabrication tools (e.g., TIG welders, CNC plasma cutters), and sophisticated engine management system tuning software is paramount. This allows for precise measurements, accurate tuning, and high-quality custom work.
  • Custom Solutions: Unlike shops that primarily offer off-the-shelf repairs, Atomic Speed Shop excels at custom solutions tailored to individual vehicle needs and performance objectives. This bespoke approach often involves designing and fabricating unique parts.
  • Passion-Driven Work: The work performed is often driven by a genuine passion for automobiles and performance, which translates into meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to achieving optimal results.
  • Problem-Solving Capabilities: They are adept at tackling complex, unique challenges that arise with highly modified or custom vehicles, often diagnosing and resolving issues that baffle less specialized shops.
  • Quality of Workmanship: A strong emphasis is placed on the quality of craftsmanship, whether it's a weld on a custom exhaust or the precise assembly of a high-performance engine, ensuring durability and reliability alongside performance.

Promotional Information and Target Audience

Atomic Speed Shop's promotional efforts are typically targeted at the performance automotive community. This includes enthusiasts interested in modifying their cars for street or track use, owners of classic or exotic vehicles seeking specialized care, and individuals looking for custom fabrication solutions. Promotion often occurs through:

  • Online Presence: A strong website showcasing their portfolio of completed projects, detailed descriptions of services, dyno charts, and customer testimonials. Social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook are crucial for sharing progress photos, videos of dyno runs, and engaging with the community.
  • Word-of-Mouth Referrals: Due to the specialized nature and high quality of their work, word-of-mouth recommendations within the enthusiast community are incredibly valuable.
  • Participation in Automotive Events: Sponsoring or attending local car shows, track days, drag races, and automotive meetups allows them to connect directly with their target audience and showcase their capabilities.
  • Collaborations: Working with performance parts manufacturers or other automotive businesses to expand their reach and offer integrated solutions.
  • Showcasing Results: Highlighting quantifiable performance gains (e.g., horsepower and torque figures from dyno runs), successful race finishes, and visually stunning custom builds are key promotional tools.

Atomic Speed Shop Customer Reviews

Reasonable prices. Constant communication. Jack the mechanic gave me an expected number of hours to correct the issue and let me know if it was something that would take longer. No surprises and he worked to keep me from overpaying. Very happy with the service. Highly recommend.

I drove my 1983 blazer over there to get a quote for paint, everybody was hanging out in the office when I went in. I figure it was the owner I was talking to, I described the car and told him I was just looking for a paint job and a little body work. The truck is clean and has one rude spot in a flat panel that needs a piece welded in. I figured a good job would be $4-6k. Without getting up to look at the car he quoted me $40,000-45,000 to paint it and he said it’ll likely go up from there. If you don’t want business, just say so. I can tell it’s busy in there, and they do pretty well, but it might not always be that way. I’ve got three vehicles that are all going to get paint and bodywork in the next few years, might be good business to not be cute with potential customers and loose their business for good. I have a hard time believing that of the 25 cars he said they were working on in there (all of which I saw were not worth the 45k paint job he was selling) anybody is paying that much. Thank you. Picture of the truck below, so you see it’s not a basket case.

They do good work but their prices are ridiculously astronomical. They recently quoted me 45 hours to do a 4-5 hour job. I used to own a shop and did the type of work being asked, so I know how long it should take. Previously I had work done that I expected to be priced a little high at around $300-$500. It ended up being over $2000. This was my fault as I am used to dealing with people who charge fair prices and did not get a firm price upfront. I gave two stars because the work performed seems to be good but I would never go there again. 45 hours for a 5 hour job is beyond gouging. Follow up to the above. The 45 hours quoted to me would be $3,825 at the $85 an hour that I paid previously (if they still have this labor rate). I am having the work done at another reputable shop for $350. This is about what I expected and is less than 10% of what the 45 hours quoted calculates out to.

Don’t let them put you off on an estimate. They would not give me an estimate when I brought my car in for body and paint. Said they had to get into it and see. They wanted a deposit and when I said how much they said we usually want 30%; leave us $10,000. I left with them saying we will put two DA sanders on it. The next thing I knew it was stripped and sent to Chicago to be dipped. When it returned I asked again for an estimate. They said let us do a bit more and see. It went like this until I said get rolling again and let me get it out of here. I was in over $100k by then, $10k at a time. I agreed for them to clean up the suspension parts before install and install new brakes and axle bearings. I came away with a rolling chassis, no interior, wiring, dash; completely gutted, as well as no drive train. The brake pedal was sticking, bolts were not tightened, the steering wheel was upside down, and the front fender and hood were misaligned and no mounting hole in the new fender for a hood pen. The paint was scuffed where they had pushed the fender around, even looked like a hammer blow. Total cost: $165,000. After multiple calls and emails the owner would not talk to me about fixing some of the problems.

They had my car for several months to rebuild the engine in my mustang after they told me it would just take a couple of months. The cost was also well over twice what the original estimate was. I have had to take it back to them three different times because of different issues. Furthermore they damaged the paint two separate times in three different places and did not fix it. (It was painted by another shop right before we first took it to them.) The last time they had it, they charged me for detailing it even though I did not ask them to and they did a very poor job of doing it, leaving wax or something in various places all over the car on the plastic trim and rubber pieces. There are only two positive things about the experience. 1) they sent a truck and trailer to pick it up from Myrtle Beach when it broke down at Mustang Week. 2) Most of the staff are very nice. This has been such a huge disappointment for me and my wife.
