Uncle Ed's Oil Shoppe Introduce

For vehicle owners in Troy, Michigan, and the surrounding areas seeking efficient and reliable routine car maintenance, Uncle Ed's Oil Shoppe stands as a dedicated option within the "Auto Repair Stations" category. Located at 3801 Rochester Rd, Troy, MI 48083, USA, this establishment primarily focuses on quick lube services and essential vehicle maintenance, aiming to provide a fast and convenient solution for busy motorists. While not a full-service mechanical repair shop in the traditional sense, its specialization in quick services makes it a go-to for vital preventative care.

The environment at Uncle Ed's Oil Shoppe is typical of a quick-lube establishment, designed for efficiency and a relatively fast turnaround. Customers generally drive into a service bay where technicians quickly assess their vehicle's needs. The waiting area, while functional, is likely geared towards short stays, emphasizing the "quick" aspect of their service. However, customer experiences paint a mixed picture regarding the actual speed and communication within this environment. One positive review highlights a "great experience" with a team that was "professional, efficient and thorough," praising their "excellent customer service." This suggests a well-run operation where staff clearly communicates and performs services smoothly. Conversely, another customer expressed frustration with the "10 minute oil change" promise, detailing a process that took significantly longer than expected due to additional services and engine warm-up requirements. This indicates that while the intent is quick service, the actual duration can vary, and clear communication about expected times is crucial for customer satisfaction within this fast-paced environment.

Uncle Ed's Oil Shoppe specializes in express automotive maintenance, primarily focusing on services that can be performed quickly without extensive disassembly of the vehicle. Their core offerings typically include:

  • Oil Changes: This is their flagship service. They offer various types of oil changes (e.g., conventional, synthetic blend, full synthetic) to suit different vehicle requirements and owner preferences. This usually includes a new oil filter and a multi-point inspection.
  • Fluid Checks and Replenishments: Beyond oil, they commonly check and top off other essential fluids such as transmission fluid, power steering fluid, brake fluid, and windshield washer fluid.
  • Filter Replacements: This often includes air filter and cabin air filter replacements, which are quick services crucial for engine performance and cabin air quality.
  • Tire Pressure Checks: Ensuring tires are properly inflated for safety and fuel efficiency.
  • Wiper Blade Replacement: Offering and installing new wiper blades for optimal visibility.
  • Basic Vehicle Inspections: A quick visual inspection of components like belts, hoses, and lights to identify immediate concerns.
  • Engine Clean Services: As mentioned in one review, they may offer additional services like "engine clean," though the specifics and duration of such services should be clearly communicated.
Their model is built around providing these fundamental maintenance services efficiently, often without requiring an appointment, making them a convenient stop for busy drivers.

The distinguishing features of Uncle Ed's Oil Shoppe, as gleaned from customer feedback, revolve around their service model and the varying customer experience. One key feature is the emphasis on speed and convenience, aiming for a quick turnaround for routine maintenance. The positive review underscores their ability to be "efficient and thorough," resulting in a car "running smoothly." This indicates that when the process aligns with expectations, the service is indeed effective and well-received. Another notable feature is the professionalism and customer service of the team, which can greatly influence the overall experience. The "excellent customer service" highlighted by one patron suggests a staff that is courteous and helpful, contributing to a positive interaction. However, a contrasting feature, as illuminated by the critical review, is the potential for misaligned expectations regarding service duration and a lack of upfront communication about additional steps (like engine warm-up for an "engine clean") that extend the visit. This inconsistency in communication can lead to frustration despite the intended convenience. The direct involvement of the "salesman" in discussing additional services, as mentioned, implies a sales-driven approach where upsells are common, which is typical for quick-lube centers but requires clear explanation to the customer.

In terms of promotional information, quick lube centers like Uncle Ed's Oil Shoppe often run various specials and discounts to attract customers. These commonly include:

  • Discounted Oil Change Packages: Offering various tiers of oil changes at competitive price points.
  • Coupons for Services: Promotions often found online or through local flyers for specific services like oil changes, tire rotations, or fluid top-offs.
  • Bundled Deals: Sometimes offering discounts when combining an oil change with other services like tire rotation or air filter replacement.
  • First-Time Customer Discounts: Incentives for new customers to try their services.
Customers interested in current promotions at Uncle Ed's Oil Shoppe in Troy, MI, should contact them directly at (248) 689-9250 or +1 248-689-9250. It is always advisable to inquire about the total time commitment for any service, especially if opting for additional treatments, to manage expectations effectively. While the promise of a "10-minute oil change" might be a marketing slogan, understanding the full process and potential add-ons is key to a smooth visit.

In conclusion, Uncle Ed's Oil Shoppe in Troy, MI, serves as a specialized "Auto Repair Station" focusing on express oil changes and fundamental vehicle maintenance. It offers a convenient option for routine car care, with the potential for professional and efficient service. While some customers highly recommend it for its great service and efficiency, others suggest the need for clearer communication regarding service times and additional procedures to ensure a consistently positive customer experience. For quick, essential automotive upkeep, it remains a viable choice for local drivers.

Uncle Ed's Oil Shoppe Customer Reviews

Came in for an oil change today. I got the engine clean as well. But there's clearly no such thing as a 10 minute oil change here. Without doing the engine clean, the oil change would have been at least 25 minutes. With the engine clean, which he said would only be an additional 10 minutes. It's now gonna be a 35+ minute process. Apparently, now I have to run my engine for 10 minutes before they can even start the oil change, ridiculous! Maybe the salesman could tell you that you're going to be here for at least 40 minutes before you agree to do everything.?

I took my car to uncle Ed’s for the first time and had a great experience! The team was professional, efficient and thorough. And their customer service was excellent! My car is running smoothly, and I’ll definitely be back for future maintenance. Highly recommended!

They drained my oil THEN tell me they are short on the correct oil for my car. They put in a different more expensive oil to make up the difference and can’t discount it. Ends up costing me $50 plus took the team of 3 guys 45 mins to do a small car oil change. Had they told me they were short I would have gone else where!

Make sure you specifically ask for winterized washer fluid whether it's part of the service you came for or not. Went for trans fluid, power steering, and coolant flush back in August. Came to pick up the car and they told me they topped off the wiper fluid for me. Great right? Well now it's winter and my reservoir is frozen so the salt is basically a permanent resident of my windshield until it gets above 32° which is every other week. Called about it and asked what they could do, was told I would need to wait till it thaws, empty it myself and refill. Figured they could at least empty and replace it for me once it thawed after screwing me but nope. I mean why even bother with fluid without antifreeze 3 months before winter in Michigan? I should also add when the original service was done there was oil all over my steering wheel because the tech didn't take off his gloves before moving the car. Did they offer to clean it? Nope, just handed me a rag👍

I’m so glad that our usual oil change spot was busy and we saw this down the road and decided to stop here — I won’t go anywhere else now. This is the spot. Great service. Everyone was smiling and kind and knowledgeable. We had our dogs in the car with us and they all wanted to say hi and know their names, so sweet. We were in and out so quickly too. I highly recommend this place.
