While the name The Big Bike Shop might initially suggest a focus solely on bicycles, information available indicates that this establishment functions as a dedicated Auto Repair Station with a strong emphasis on motorcycles and scooters, often referred to as "big bikes." This positioning makes it a crucial resource for two-wheeler enthusiasts and daily riders in its local area, offering a comprehensive range of services and goods to keep motorbikes in optimal condition. It differentiates itself by specializing in these vehicles, providing expert care that might not be available at general car repair shops.
The environment at The Big Bike Shop is tailored to the specific needs of motorcycle and scooter repair. Expect a professional and organized workshop, designed to efficiently handle a variety of two-wheeled vehicles. This would typically include specialized lifts and stands for motorcycles, allowing technicians to work comfortably and safely on different bike models. The shop is likely equipped with diagnostic tools specific to motorcycle engines and electrical systems, which differ significantly from those used for cars. A well-stocked parts department within the shop is also probable, carrying a range of common motorcycle components, lubricants, and potentially aftermarket accessories. The layout is designed for streamlined service, minimizing downtime for customers. While public waiting areas may vary, the emphasis is often on a clean and functional space where customers can discuss their bike's needs with knowledgeable staff. The overall atmosphere aims to be welcoming to the motorcycle community, fostering trust and expertise.
As an Auto Repair Station specializing in two-wheelers, The Big Bike Shop provides a wide array of services crucial for the performance, safety, and longevity of motorcycles and scooters. These services go beyond basic maintenance, addressing complex issues unique to motorbikes:
- Routine Servicing and Maintenance: This includes essential tasks such as oil changes, filter replacements (oil, air), spark plug checks and replacements, chain adjustments and lubrication, and fluid level checks. Regular maintenance is key to preventing major issues and ensuring smooth operation.
- Engine Diagnostics and Repair: Utilizing specialized equipment to diagnose engine performance issues, unusual noises, or warning lights. This can involve carburetor cleaning and tuning, fuel injection system maintenance, and more extensive engine repairs or rebuilds.
- Electrical System Troubleshooting: Addressing problems with the battery, starter, alternator, wiring, lights, and other electronic components unique to motorcycles.
- Brake System Overhaul: Comprehensive brake checks, pad and rotor replacement, brake fluid flushes, and caliper servicing to ensure maximum stopping power and safety.
- Tire Services: Tire mounting, balancing, and repair, often with access to a wide selection of motorcycle tires suited for various riding conditions and styles.
- Suspension Tuning and Repair: Adjusting or repairing front forks and rear shock absorbers to optimize ride comfort, handling, and stability. This is particularly important for performance and safety.
- Transmission and Clutch Services: Maintenance and repair of motorcycle transmissions, including clutch adjustments, cable replacement, and addressing shifting issues.
- Customization and Performance Upgrades: Beyond basic repairs, The Big Bike Shop likely offers services for customizing motorcycles, including installing aftermarket exhaust systems, performance air filters, and other upgrades to enhance power, aesthetics, or handling.
- Accident Repair: While not explicitly stated, a comprehensive auto repair station for motorcycles would typically offer light accident damage repair, including bodywork and component replacement.
- Pre-Purchase Inspections: Providing thorough assessments for individuals looking to buy used motorcycles or scooters, ensuring they are aware of the vehicle's condition.
The depth of these services highlights their commitment to being a complete solution for motorcycle owners, covering everything from daily commuters to performance bikes.
Several features likely set The Big Bike Shop apart within the motorcycle repair sector. A primary distinctive is specialized expertise in two-wheelers. Unlike general automotive shops, their technicians are highly skilled and experienced specifically with motorcycles and scooters, understanding the nuances of different models and brands. This specialization leads to more accurate diagnostics and effective repairs. Another significant feature is customer-centricity. Reputable motorcycle shops often foster a strong community feel, providing honest advice and transparent communication. Customers can expect clear explanations of the work needed, upfront pricing, and a focus on building long-term relationships based on trust. The availability of genuine or high-quality aftermarket parts is also a key feature, ensuring that repairs are durable and maintain the bike's integrity. For shops like The Big Bike Shop, which may cater to enthusiasts, offering performance upgrades and customization services is a major draw. This allows riders to personalize their machines and enhance their riding experience, a service not typically found at a generic auto repair shop. Their likely passion for motorcycles would also contribute to the overall enthusiasm and dedication of the staff, making it a more engaging experience for fellow riders.
While specific, real-time promotional offers for The Big Bike Shop are not universally available, auto repair stations, especially those specializing in a niche like motorcycles, often employ various strategies to attract and retain customers. Common promotions could include:
- Seasonal Servicing Packages: Offering special prices for pre-season checks (e.g., before riding season or during specific weather changes), including comprehensive safety inspections and necessary fluid changes.
- New Customer Discounts: An introductory offer for first-time clients, perhaps a percentage off their first service or a fixed discount on specific maintenance tasks.
- Loyalty Programs: Rewarding repeat customers with discounts on future services, exclusive access to events, or special pricing on parts and accessories.
- Accessory and Gear Sales: Periodic sales on motorcycle parts, riding gear, helmets, and other accessories to encourage riders to equip themselves safely and stylishly.
- Free Inspections: Offering complimentary safety checks or diagnostic scans as a way to encourage riders to bring their bikes in and identify potential issues early.
- Community Events/Rides: Organizing or sponsoring local motorcycle rides or events, which not only promotes the shop but also engages with the local riding community.
Customers interested in current promotions or special offers should directly contact The Big Bike Shop via their official website, phone, or by visiting their physical location to inquire about any ongoing deals. This direct engagement aligns with the community-focused nature often found in specialized "bike shops."

The crew at the Big Bike shop are a great group of people who are very knowledgeable of the Harley Davidson motorcycles! I say this as an ex Harley Davidson mechanic myself! The owner Fred is a wealth of knowledge on all makes, models and years I highly recommend this place for all your Harley Davidson and Harley Davidson style motorcycles! Cheif mechanic Mike does an incredible job on all types of complete bike builds to repairs and service! One of the few remaining old school shops left and located in beautiful downtown Columbus Ohio!

I've been going to the Big Bike Shop for over ten years. Fred, Mike and OC have all worked on my Harleys at one point or another including working on complicated engine, transmission and electrical issues. Fred, the owner of the Big Bike Shop, has been at 581 West Broad for over 40 years. Fred, Mike and OC have over 100 years of combined experience working on Harleys. They work on Flatheads, Knuckleheads, Panheads, Shovelheads, EVOs and even modern Twin Cams. The shop is a throw back to when independent motorcycle shops flourished like hardward stores before Lowe's and Home Depot. There isn't a computer in the shop, but if you want years of experience, these are the guys. These are real old guard chopper and Harley mechanics who are willing to help you with your bike and/or project with parts or an oil change, new tire or rebuilding your motor or carb. If you want the big dealership treatment and the high prices, go somewhere else, but if you want to talk with people who actually build bikes and work on them, this the place to go.

I found this place online because I live close. They were very quick to come pick up my bike (other than being 2 hours late from the appointment). I was wanting a oil change and a over all inspection on my bike. I was told to call later in the day. Then later that day I called and was told "oh no you will have to call tomorrow" The next day I called and they said call back later. When I called at 4pm (which they are "open" until 6) they said they didn't know the status and to call back and ask for OC in the morning. The next day I called and OC said they had started on the bike, but the mechanic was out for an appointment and had the oil changed and was working on the bike and to check back later. When I called back later they said "I don't know how far he is along with it, call back tomorrow." At this point I knew I was getting the run around and told them to stop all work on the bike. When I picked the bike up the next day they were open they had not done the oil change or 1 thing to it and charged me $155 for picking it up (I live 1.7 miles away from the "shop") and 1 hour labor. They only took cash for the hand written invoice. I debated weather or not to write this after the frustration of this experience was gone. In the end I'm sure they are nice people but decided to post this so no one else has to go through this. Ended up taking my custom chopper to ASK Motorsports on the east side and within 2 hours they already started working on the bike. Any questions, please ask.
