When my 1997 Ford F-250 with a 7.3 diesel developed a fuel leak I had South Commercial diagnose the cause, which they determined was 3 rubber hose connections and was a 2 hour job for which I was quoted $300.00 parts and labor. The repair was scheduled and I dropped it off when they opened. 5 hours later I'd not heard from them so I called and they still hadn't even started the repair, which thay assured me would be done that day.. 1-1/2 hours later they called to say they found another problem, parts would be $96 and another hour of labor, for a new total of about $500, so I told them to go ahead and asked if it would still be compleate that day, they didn't know, but thought they could have it done by the end of the following work day. When I asked how another hour added another full day they said they would do their best to have it out in the morning.  By noon I still had not heard from them so I called and was told they were working on it and should have it done by end of day.  At 3:30 they call to tell me it was ready and the total was $850.  I asked why it was not the $500 we discussed the previous work day and was told he did not remeber that conversation. I went to pick it up and they reduced the total to $762. When I said that was still a far cry from the $500 he said their mechanics were not used to working on "these older engines" even though they were fully aware of its age when they quoted the work.  2 days later, it was still leaking fuel, so I called and was questioned how I knew it was a fuel leak. After a discussion they agreed to take another look. When I took it back they told me there was no fuel leak and the fuel I had seen on top of the block was rain water.  After more discussion they took another look and found a crack in the fuel pump. I asked for a quote for the repair and was told the fuel pumps for these were hard to find and they don't like giving quotes. After more discussion they agreed to  give me a quote by end of day.  That was nearly two weeks ago. I found the pump was in stock at a local parts outlet, so purchased it and replaced it myself.  I will elect to take any future repairs elsewhere,  let the reader draw their own conclusions.
