Mikes Automotive Introduce

For residents of Huber Heights, Ohio, seeking automotive repair services, Mikes Automotive, located at 7581 Brandt Pike, Huber Heights, OH 45424, USA, presents itself as an "Auto Repair Station." They can be reached at (937) 233-1433 or +1 937-233-1433. As with any service-oriented business, understanding the range of customer experiences is crucial for local users to make informed decisions about where to take their vehicles.

Environment and Initial Impressions

Information about the physical environment of Mikes Automotive is not detailed in the provided reviews. However, as an "Auto Repair Station," it would typically consist of a garage equipped with tools and bays for vehicle service. The crucial aspect of the "environment" at Mikes Automotive, as illuminated by customer feedback, lies in the initial interactions and the general atmosphere surrounding communication and trust. One customer explicitly states, "I have been to quite a number of auto repair shops in Huber over the years with less than good results in all cases. In this adventure... Mike's found the head gasket was not leaking and saved a significant repair expense. The fact they were honesty about the lack of need for the repair sets them apart." This glowing endorsement highlights an environment of honesty and integrity, at least in this particular instance, where the shop prioritized accurate diagnosis over maximizing profit. This initial positive impression suggests a potentially trustworthy and ethical approach to business, which is highly valued in the auto repair industry.

However, another review presents a contrasting perspective on the service environment, particularly regarding communication and timeliness. This customer describes a prolonged and frustrating experience, citing "continuously skipped" appointments and constant "run around" regarding diagnosis and repair status. This suggests that while initial honesty might be present in some instances, the overall communication and scheduling management can be inconsistent, leading to significant customer frustration. This indicates a challenging environment for customers seeking timely and transparent updates on their vehicle's status.

Services and Features: A Mixed Bag of Experiences

As an "Auto Repair Station," Mikes Automotive would generally offer a range of vehicle maintenance and repair services. Based on the provided reviews, specific services include:

  • Diagnostic Services: One customer praised Mikes Automotive for accurately diagnosing a non-existent head gasket leak, saving them "a significant repair expense." This indicates a capability for thorough and honest diagnostic work, a critical service for any auto repair shop.

  • Engine Repair (Complex): The case of the 2006 Mustang GT requiring timing correction, valve replacement, and head work indicates Mikes Automotive undertakes complex engine repairs, including top-end overhauls and installation of new components like heads and cams.

The "features" of Mikes Automotive are illuminated through both positive and negative customer experiences:

  • Honesty (in some cases): The first reviewer's experience with the head gasket diagnosis strongly suggests a feature of integrity, where Mikes Automotive chose honesty over a lucrative but unnecessary repair. This particular incident sets a high bar for ethical conduct.

  • Local Presence: Being "local in Huber" is a convenient feature for residents, and the first reviewer's decision to seek a second opinion locally underscores the value of accessible, community-based repair shops.

  • Challenges with Timeliness and Communication: The second, extensive review highlights significant issues with project management. The customer brought their car in July 2024 with a promised October 2024 start, only for work to begin in January 2025. This extended delay, coupled with perceived "continuously skipped" vehicle service and consistent "run around" when inquiring about progress, indicates a severe shortcoming in scheduling, communication, and meeting promised deadlines. This protracted timeline, extending for nearly 10 months from initial contact to attempted completion, is a major concern.

  • Quality Control Concerns: The second reviewer's experience details numerous post-repair issues, including a "knocking" motor, "missing timing cover bolts," an "oil leak," "missing interior panels," and various other missing or loose bolts and components. This points to significant quality control issues during reassembly, raising concerns about the thoroughness and attention to detail in their repair processes. The claim of missing expensive "ford performance cams" is particularly serious, implying potential theft or gross negligence.

  • Reliability of Promises: The customer's attempt to secure a firm completion date and a handshake agreement with Mike himself, only for the deadline to be missed and the vehicle still problematic, highlights a lack of reliability in honoring commitments. This undermines trust and is a critical negative feature.

Promotional Information and Overall Impression

Based on the provided reviews, the promotional information for Mikes Automotive is contradictory. On one hand, the initial positive review serves as a strong endorsement, promoting the shop as an honest and capable establishment that saved a customer from a major unnecessary expense. This kind of word-of-mouth praise, particularly regarding integrity, is invaluable in the automotive repair sector and would attract new customers seeking trustworthy mechanics.

However, the detailed negative review presents a starkly different promotional narrative. It highlights severe deficiencies in project management, communication, quality of work, and accountability. The claims of prolonged delays, unmet deadlines, significant reassembly issues, a lingering engine problem, and missing expensive parts ("$900 ford performance cams") are extremely damaging. The customer's intent to contact a lawyer and the Better Business Bureau for "stealing my time and money" is a serious accusation that would deter potential clients.

For local users in Huber Heights, Mikes Automotive appears to be a business with a highly inconsistent service delivery. While they might occasionally deliver an exceptional and honest diagnostic service, as seen in the head gasket example, their capacity for handling more complex or time-sensitive projects, and their overall quality control and customer communication, appear to be significantly flawed, as evidenced by the Mustang GT owner's extensive negative experience. Potential customers should weigh these contrasting experiences carefully, understanding that a positive initial interaction does not necessarily guarantee a smooth and satisfactory outcome for all types of repairs or over extended periods. The business's capacity to handle multiple concurrent jobs and manage customer expectations seems to be a notable area of concern, potentially leading to significant dissatisfaction and financial loss for some clients.

Mikes Automotive Customer Reviews

I don't often leave reviews but this place is worthy of 5 stars. I have been to quite a number of auto repair shops in Huber over the years with less than good results in all cases. In this adventure, another (not Mike's) Huber auto shop wanted to change the head gasket in my Tacoma due to a leak. This was a significant expense so I sought a second opinion from Mike's based on it's excellent reviews and being local in Huber. Mike's found the head gasket was not leaking and saved a significant repair expense. The fact they were honesty about the lack of need for the repair sets them apart. They will be getting all my repair business in the future!

Let’s start with nearly 10 months ago I call this shop because in the past they’ve done me well and got me out of some binds. I bring my 06 Mustang GT because for the life of me I can’t figure out how to time my motor and end up bending valves. I call up mikes shop to see if they can help me out and they tell me they can do it even though I’ve made a mess of my motor. They tell me yes bring it in because they could do it so I get it towed there in July of 2024 but they warn me they couldn’t get it worked on until October of 2024 which I’m ok with because they say they can get it done. October rolls around and nothing all the way until January of 2025 where they finally call me and say they’ll get to work on it as soon as possible because they’ve had so many people in front of me even though I know I was continuously skipped seeing all the cars in his lot shuffle but mine stay consistently in the same spot for months. January they call me and give me the news that I bent my valves and to either buy new heads from jegs or get my heads redone to which I see this as an opportunity to refresh the top end of my motor and pay whatever the charge may be because I miss and want my car. They charge me 7k to put all the parts and pieces on and the motor is knocking after everything, from the top(this is February mind you). I really needed my car back because at the time I was moving to Washington DC on military orders but ended up not going thankfully. After I gave them a pretty fair hard date that they said they could get done by early February they end up not meeting the time. The vehicles does run and they put it back together but the front of the motor was knocking to which I think, using a mechanics stethoscope, is a timing tensioner that’s defective from the brand new ford parts put in the vehicle and reinstalled by Mikes shop. Anyway this is mid February and for nearly the next 2 months I call weekly to see if they’ve fixed or diagnosed the problem and they constantly give me the run around that they’ll look at it and get it fixed and they never do. April 4th rolls around so I go to the shop to see what’s up and Mike himself comes out and says it’ll be done by April 11th 2025 and we even shake on it. He gives me his word and hand shake on it and fun fact, it doesn’t get done. My buddy helped me big by picking up the car for me on the 11th after I called and asked if it was ready to go and they tell me yes(this was about 2:30 and I couldn’t personally get it myself). When my buddy picked it up and drove it the 4 or so miles to his place, It was still knocking, missing timing cover bolts, because of the missing timing cover bolts I have an oil leak down by the oil pan, none of my interior panels where put back in place, the under cover of the vehicle wasn’t put back in place and all the bolts missing for it, cold air intake mounting bolts missing, battery tray loose and barely hanging on because the bolts are missing, rags and trash in my car, and my $900 ford performance cams that went there to the shop are gone from my car and not there since we couldn’t use them. I paid them in December before the work was complete $6900 and some change only to be screwed and missing $1k in parts and unable to reliable drive my car after he lied on his own word constantly to me. This is straight up bad business and I can’t recommend this shop to anyone. I’ll be seeking a lawyer and contacting the Better Business Bureau to report this business for stealing my time and money over diagnosing my cars issue, timing, and cylinder heads. I tried to help and be as responsive as possible running to the parts store to get parts and anything they needed to have a quick turn around but it’s been nothing but a headache and waste of a lot of money. I have video footage of the pick up and drive of the vehicle knocking and in shambles.

Provided honest and exceptional service to my 2011 tundra. The work performed was executed quickly. His receptionist was great at communicating, helped with billing, and vehicle pick up. I highly recommend to any local or passerby.

Unprofessional. I came to replace my oil pan, which they did successfully; however afterwords I experienced multiple noises coming from my car. They suggested a repair which didn’t make sense, I payed for and it did not fix the issue. Eventually I discovered the problem (through a different mechanic) as missing and lose bolts. That mechanic suggested I take it back to the mechanic who did the last repair job (Mike’s), so I did. Not only did Mike deny any wrongdoing, but he didn’t even see the missing and lose bolts. See the photos below of missing bolts to my Honda Civic sub frame. I just fixed it myself now but wish I got my money back after being accused of finding “bad” mechanics who actually solved my problem.
