Leroy's Generator Repair

My Uncle hired Leroy to repair a Onan HDKAK diesel generator. My Uncle used Google to see that the Diagnostic lights indicated a problem with the governor. Leroy said the control board was bad so he trusted the mechanic on site and ordered it only to find out that the $1800 part was not it. We were later able to download the service manual for the unit online. We went through 5 minutes of troubleshooting based on what the lights indicated and found that the windings on the governor were bad. After ordering a new governor we tested both the old and new boards and the old board had no issues. Based on my experience, Leroy does not know what he is doing and should not be working on generators. We do not need someone guessing what part is bad especially when the parts are this expensive.

He diagnosed my Onan generator for $60.00 in about 5 minutes and told me I needed a voltage regulator I told him are you sure because I don't want to play process of elimination and he said yes I'm sure so I ordered $245 part and it wasn't it and all he had to say I guess I was wrong didn't even offer to make his deal right. Would not recommend him for generator services

Recently purchased an RV that he had replaced the carburetor on the generator (Onan Microlite 2800). He installed the incorrect carburetor and I've been fighting problems with generator since I purchased it. The correct carburetor retails for $300. The one he put in goes for $180, and is not for this spec generator. I had contacted him originally when the generator wasn't running correctly, and he repeatedly flaked out in coming to work on it, I wanted him to replace the fuel pump. I wasn't even trying to get any sort of warranty on previous work. I removed the carburetor as symptoms indicated an obstruction, at that time I identified it as the wrong part.

Leroy came out as fast as he could to replace my RV generator. Honest guy. We were traveling through to Yellowstone and he made it happen.
