Inland Power Group Introduce
Inland Power Group, located at 210 Alexandra Way, Carol Stream, IL 60188, USA, is a highly specialized auto repair station primarily focused on diesel engines, heavy-duty trucks, and industrial power systems. Unlike typical automotive repair shops that cater to passenger cars, Inland Power Group is geared towards commercial and industrial clients, providing comprehensive service, parts, and support for a wide range of robust machinery. They can be reached at (630) 871-1111 or +1 630-871-1111.
The environment at Inland Power Group is that of a large, industrial-scale service center. It features extensive service bays designed to accommodate heavy-duty trucks, buses, and various industrial equipment. The facility is equipped with specialized tools, advanced diagnostic systems, and heavy lifting machinery required for working on large diesel engines and commercial vehicle components. Given their specialization, the facility likely includes a substantial parts department stocking a wide array of components for the brands they service, such as Detroit Diesel, Allison Transmission, and Carrier Transicold.
For the convenience of commercial drivers, Inland Power Group often provides various amenities. These can include a TV lounge, driver amenities, trailer parking, and potentially free pick-up and delivery services or a hotel shuttle, catering to the specific needs of long-haul drivers or fleet managers whose vehicles are undergoing extensive repairs. The Carol Stream location's service hours are typically extensive, often running Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to midnight, indicating a focus on minimizing downtime for commercial operations. Parts hours are similar, from 7:00 AM to 12:00 AM on weekdays. They also offer 24-hour on-call and roadside repair services, highlighting their commitment to keeping commercial vehicles operational.
Inland Power Group offers a highly specialized range of services and products, primarily for on-highway and vocational trucks, as well as various industrial power systems. Their core services include:
- Diesel Engine Service and Repair: Expertise in diagnosing and repairing complex diesel engines, including specific Detroit Diesel engine series (e.g., DD13, DD15, DD16, Series 50 Legacy On Highway Engines, Series 8.2 Liter Engines). This involves everything from routine maintenance to major overhauls.
- Heavy-Duty Truck Service: Comprehensive maintenance and repair for commercial trucks, encompassing engines, transmissions (including Allison Transmission), drivelines, and other critical systems.
- Diagnostic Services: Utilizing advanced diagnostic tools to accurately identify issues, which may involve methods like spraying a powdery substance to detect leaks, as mentioned in a customer review.
- Parts Sales: Supplying genuine factory parts for the brands they represent, ensuring proper fit and performance.
- DOT Inspections: Performing mandated Department of Transportation inspections to ensure vehicles comply with safety regulations.
- Dyno Testing: Capabilities for dynamometer testing to assess engine performance under load.
- Roadside Repair: Offering 24-hour roadside assistance to address breakdowns away from the shop.
- Machine Shop Services: Likely on-site capabilities for specialized machining, such as flywheel machining, for components that require precise work.
- Trailer Repair/Services: Addressing maintenance and repair needs for commercial trailers.
- RV Chassis Service: Providing service for recreational vehicle chassis.
- Transport Refrigeration Service: Servicing units like Carrier Transicold, crucial for vehicles transporting temperature-sensitive goods.
- Generator Services: Maintenance and repair for power generation equipment.
- On-Call Services: Availability for service during off-hours, including Saturdays and Sundays by arrangement.
Inland Power Group's key features revolve around its deep specialization in heavy-duty diesel and industrial equipment. They are a distributor for major brands like Detroit Diesel, Allison Transmission, and Carrier Transicold, meaning they have direct access to factory parts and likely employ factory-trained and certified technicians. This specialized expertise is crucial for complex diagnostics and repairs on high-value commercial vehicles. Their 24-hour on-call and roadside repair services are a significant benefit for businesses relying on their fleets, aiming to minimize downtime. The extensive service hours (7 AM to midnight) also underscore their focus on supporting commercial operations.
However, customer reviews also highlight some potential challenges. One detailed review describes a lengthy diagnostic process for an oil cooler leak, even after the customer had identified the issue, and an assessment fee that felt excessive for the information provided. The quoted repair cost of $2200 for an oil cooler leak, with the added uncertainty of breaking clamps and finding "other things wrong," led the customer to seek repairs elsewhere at a significantly lower cost. This indicates that while they offer specialized service, their pricing for diagnostics and repairs, as well as their diagnostic process, can be a point of contention for some customers. Another review explicitly states "Overpriced and understaffed place. For a basic repair of say $500 they'll ask for $4000 along with diagnostics and all the other BS. Filed a complaint against them with the BBB to no avail. Avoid!" These critical reviews point to concerns about cost transparency, perceived overcharging, and potentially the efficiency or customer communication during the repair process, especially for non-critical repairs.
Inland Power Group, as part of Interstate Power Systems, promotes itself as a "one-stop source for dependable power solutions." Their promotional messaging emphasizes their extensive network of locations, service trucks, comprehensive inventory, experienced and certified technicians, and a commitment to keeping businesses operational 24/7. They highlight their status as authorized distributors for leading brands and their ability to provide factory parts and service.
For local users in Carol Stream, particularly those managing commercial fleets or operating heavy equipment, Inland Power Group presents itself as a specialized and equipped facility for critical diesel and truck repairs. Their 24/7 on-call service and extended hours are clear benefits for businesses that cannot afford lengthy downtime.
However, based on the reviews, potential customers should be aware of the pricing structure and diagnostic procedures, especially for issues they believe are straightforward. It is advisable for customers to clearly communicate their understanding of the problem and to request detailed, itemized estimates upfront. For high-stakes commercial operations, the convenience of specialized expertise and 24-hour support might outweigh cost considerations, but for individual owner-operators or less critical repairs, comparing quotes and understanding the full scope of work, including potential additional charges, would be prudent. The suggestion from one customer to "Buy your parts from a dealer and let a certified diesel mechanic install it" reflects a perception of higher labor costs at Inland Power Group.

Inland Power Group Customer Reviews
Went there a few days ago cause we had an oil cooler leak. We told them what the issue was and needed it to be fixed. The truck was taken in the shop around 8:15 am and we were waiting patiently. Around 12 pm the driver went to ask what was going on. The reply was they had to assess and sprayed a white powdery substance on the engine to see where was leaking. Ok we know what the problem was. So its $125 hr to assess the situation but it took 2 hrs so they changed 250 for two hours of assessment they poured in 5 gallons of oil charged around $69 and all the oiled leaked out because as we stated before its leaking oil. So we asked whats the problem it was stated that the oil cooler was leaking as we told them previously, the diamond seal at the back of the engine and the head gasket was leaking oil. So a brochure was handed to us to do a level 2 overall on the engine which cost about $12000. So i stated that we are not going to do a level 2 overall how much would it cost just to fix the oil cooler leak. This is how i summerized the answer its going to cost about 2200 but the issue is when turbo is removed to get to the oil cooler the clams are going to break and that it would cost more to replace them and its just an estimate because when they start working they may find other things wrong. So it was mentioned that the truck was inoperable. So i stated if we decided to fix this problem when could it be done in two days and thats not a must. Meanwhile i was caring aload of frozen produce that needed to be delivered the next day. So i paid them there money and went to walmart and bought oil because the oil that they put in leaked out from 8:15am to around 1pm. We made it to our destination and delivered and got it fix for way less and the clams didnt break. Buy your parts from a dealer and let a certified diesel mechanic install it.

Minus 10 stars. Overpriced and understaffed place. For a basic repair of say $500 they'll ask for $4000 along with diagnostics and all the other BS. Filed a complaint against them with the BBB to no avail. Avoid!
