GREG'S AUTO MACHINE Introduce
For individuals and mechanics in Kings Mountain, NC, and surrounding areas requiring specialized automotive machining services, **GREG'S AUTO MACHINE** is an establishment operating within the "Auto Repair Stations" category, specifically focusing on precision work for engine components. Located at **102 Cash Rd, Kings Mountain, NC 28086, USA**, this facility is geared towards tasks that often underpin more extensive engine repairs or rebuilds, rather than general automotive maintenance.
The name **"GREG'S AUTO MACHINE"** clearly indicates its primary function: an automotive machine shop. This differentiates it from a general auto repair shop that might perform basic oil changes or brake repairs. Instead, GREG'S AUTO MACHINE is positioned as a specialist for intricate engine work, such as machining cylinder heads, engine blocks, crankshafts, and other components that require precise measurements and tooling. This niche focus is crucial for customers undertaking engine rebuilds, performance upgrades, or repairing severe engine damage. Their contact information, **(704) 739-9001** for phone and **+1 704-739-9001** for mobile, provides direct lines for consultations regarding specific machining needs.
From an environmental perspective, an auto machine shop typically features a dedicated workspace equipped with various heavy-duty machinery. This would include precision grinders, milling machines, boring bars, and resurfacing equipment. Such environments are characterized by their industrial nature, designed for the accurate and efficient manipulation of metal components. While cleanliness is important for precision work, the overall ambiance would be that of a workshop rather than a customer-facing waiting area, as the primary business is specialized technical service. The focus is on the capabilities of the machinery and the skill of the machinist to deliver precise results, rather than a comfortable lounge for customers.
The primary services offered by GREG'S AUTO MACHINE revolve around **automotive component machining**. As highlighted by customer feedback, a significant service is **cylinder head resurfacing**, also known as "machining" or "resurfacing" heads. This process is critical for ensuring a perfectly flat mating surface between the cylinder head and the engine block, which is essential for proper gasket sealing and engine compression. Without precise resurfacing, engine leaks or failures can occur. Beyond head resurfacing, a full-service auto machine shop like GREG'S AUTO MACHINE would typically offer other specialized services, including:
- **Engine block machining:** This can involve boring and honing cylinders, deck surfacing, and line boring main bearing journals.
- **Crankshaft grinding/polishing:** To ensure proper clearances for connecting rod and main bearings.
- **Valve seat and guide work:** To ensure proper valve sealing and operation.
- **Connecting rod reconditioning:** Ensuring proper fit and alignment.
These services are not routine maintenance but rather intricate jobs required during engine overhauls, repairs after overheating, or for performance engine building. As an "Auto Repair Station" in this specialized context, GREG'S AUTO MACHINE provides foundational services that enable other mechanics or advanced DIYers to complete complex engine assembly and repair tasks.
Regarding features, the fundamental characteristic of GREG'S AUTO MACHINE is its **specialized equipment and expertise in precision machining**. The ability to accurately resurface cylinder heads, for example, is a testament to the specialized tools and knowledge required for such tasks. The feedback from a customer, "I've been to a lot of shops over the past 40 + years that I've been having work done and every head I've ever seen had those lines in them after a surface job I've never had one to leak unless they shit you and put them on a belt sander and just smooth them like napa used to do years ago," highlights a key aspect of machine shop work. The "lines" mentioned are typically machining marks, which are expected and signify a proper surface finish for gasket sealing, contrasting with an improperly smoothed or belt-sanded surface that might appear smoother but could lead to leaks. This indicates that Greg, or his shop, adheres to professional machining standards for surface finish, which is a critical technical feature for engine component integrity.
However, customer interactions and service delivery are also crucial features for any business. One particular review details a highly negative customer experience related to the perception of the finished work. The customer felt the resurfaced heads "look scratched not smooth" and, upon questioning the work, encountered a confrontational response from Greg, leading to police involvement. This incident, while an isolated report, points to potential issues with **customer communication and conflict resolution**. The reviewer's perception of the work differing from the shop's explanation, and the subsequent escalation, suggests a breakdown in professional dialogue. The comment about Greg "getting old He needs to retire" reflects a customer's frustration with the perceived lack of willingness to address concerns directly and professionally.
Conversely, the second customer review, while not a direct experience with Greg's specific work, provides a counterpoint from a long-time mechanic or enthusiast's perspective. This customer offers insight into what constitutes a proper head resurfacing, implicitly defending the appearance of machining marks as normal and necessary for a good seal. This external validation, even if not directly from a service provided by GREG'S AUTO MACHINE in that specific instance, suggests that the technical work itself might align with industry standards, despite the customer's initial concern about aesthetics. This highlights a complex feature: the **technical quality of machining work might be sound**, but the **customer's understanding and perception of that work, along with the communication surrounding it, can significantly impact satisfaction.**
As for promotional information, the provided data does not explicitly state any current promotions, discounts, or loyalty programs offered by GREG'S AUTO MACHINE. For a specialized business like an auto machine shop, word-of-mouth referrals from trusted mechanics or engine builders often serve as the primary form of promotion. Their long-standing presence (implied by a customer saying Greg is "getting old") might also indicate a established reputation within the local automotive repair community. Potential customers seeking machining services would likely reach out directly via phone to discuss their specific needs, obtain quotes, and potentially inquire about turnaround times. Given the critical nature of engine machining, customers prioritize precision and reliability, and the shop's history and reputation for quality work would be its most significant promotional assets.
In summary, GREG'S AUTO MACHINE in Kings Mountain, NC, is a specialized "Auto Repair Station" focused on precision automotive machining services, particularly cylinder head resurfacing and other essential engine component work. Its key features are its specialized equipment and the technical expertise required for such intricate tasks. While the technical quality of the machining process, particularly the presence of machining marks, appears consistent with industry standards for proper sealing, there is documented feedback suggesting challenges in customer communication and conflict resolution. For individuals or businesses requiring expert machining for engine components, GREG'S AUTO MACHINE offers the necessary specialized services, and direct communication to clarify expectations and processes would be advisable.

I was reading some of the posts on Greg's head resurfacing. I've been to a lot of shops over the past 40 + years that I've been having work done and every head I've ever seen had those lines in them after a surface job I've never had one to leak unless they shit you and put them on a belt sander and just smooth them like napa used to do years ago.

I am very disappointed in the work I received from this shop . We dropped my cylinder head off Thursday 05-25 and picked it back up Friday Afternoon 05/26 hoping it was all done and done right the head was shaved and they left lines and grooves very deep all over the cylinder from using a dull bit . WELL he was closed over the weekend and Monday for Memorial Day so I was hoping my car would have been fixed Friday picking the head up but I had to wait a whole 3 days longer . My bf decided to bring it back Tuesday 05-30 (Today) because we was not satisfied with what we paid for. Anybody knows that when you replace a head gasket it has to be smooth and flat or else it wouldn’t even do any good fixing it. Im very disgusted because more then likely I have to replace the whole head because they done shaved it so much it’s no good . The owner claims that he shaved it better this time but I absolutely see no difference from the 1st time we picked it up . Now I have to WAIT even LONGER . Highly Don’t recommend using this shop to shave any of your parts. HE sure did pocket my money and ruin my part.

Well Mr. Greg, it has been slow going on the build. The kids are busy but I want to swing by and talk about the pros and cons of a mechanical fuel pump and a few other odds and ends.
