Cloninger Ford of Hickory Service Introduce
Cloninger Ford of Hickory Service, located at 1241 US Hwy 70 SE, Hickory, NC 28602, USA, operates as a prominent "Auto Repair Station" within the Ford dealership network. As such, it provides a comprehensive range of services and goods specifically tailored for Ford vehicles, but also extends its expertise to other makes and models. Its position within the "Auto Repair Stations" platform category signifies its role as a key provider of essential automotive care, crucial for local vehicle owners to maintain the safety, performance, and longevity of their automobiles.
The environment at Cloninger Ford of Hickory Service, typical of a modern dealership service center, is designed to be comprehensive and customer-friendly. Upon arrival, customers would likely encounter a spacious reception area for check-ins, potentially with amenities such as a comfortable waiting lounge, complimentary Wi-Fi, and refreshments. The service bays themselves would be state-of-the-art, equipped with specialized tools and diagnostic equipment specifically designed for Ford vehicles, though capable of servicing other brands as well. The presence of certified technicians, as advertised by dealerships, implies a commitment to professionalism and technical proficiency. The overall ambiance aims to instill confidence and comfort in customers, reflecting the brand's commitment to a streamlined and efficient service experience. The location on a major highway (US Hwy 70 SE) ensures easy accessibility for customers from Hickory and surrounding areas, complete with ample parking for drop-offs and pick-ups.
Cloninger Ford of Hickory Service offers a broad spectrum of services, encompassing everything from routine maintenance to complex diagnostics and repairs. As a Ford dealership service center, they specialize in genuine Ford parts and factory-trained technicians. Their service offerings typically include:
- Routine Maintenance: This covers essential services like oil changes, tire rotations and balancing, brake inspections and fluid flushes, battery checks and replacements, and multi-point inspections.
- Diagnostic Services: Equipped with advanced diagnostic tools, they can accurately identify the root cause of issues indicated by warning lights (e.g., check engine light) or unusual vehicle behavior.
- Major Repairs: This includes work on engines, transmissions, suspension systems, electrical systems, air conditioning, and exhaust systems.
- Tire Services: Beyond rotations and balancing, they likely offer tire sales and installation from major brands, as well as alignment services.
- Recalls and Warranty Work: As an authorized Ford service center, they are equipped to handle all warranty-covered maintenance and repairs, ensuring that a vehicle's factory warranty remains intact.
- Genuine Parts: They provide genuine Ford parts, which are designed to fit perfectly and maintain the vehicle's original performance and reliability.
This comprehensive array of services positions them as a full-service automotive care provider for both Ford and non-Ford vehicle owners in the Hickory region.
The features of Cloninger Ford of Hickory Service, as evidenced by customer reviews, present a mixed, yet informative, picture. One highly critical review highlights significant issues with communication, dishonesty, and unprofessionalism. This customer reported that services requested (alignment, balance, rotation, diagnostics, steering column rattle) were not completed as promised, with misleading explanations and additional unauthorized charges for lug nuts. The review details how the vehicle was left in a worse state, and how certain diagnoses were proven false by a subsequent, competent mechanic. This feedback emphasizes critical areas where the service department reportedly fell short:
- Lack of communication: No updates on vehicle status despite long waiting times.
- Dishonesty/Misleading information: False diagnoses and explanations for incomplete work.
- Unprofessionalism/Laziness: Services not performed correctly (e.g., only one side of tires balanced) and unauthorized parts replacement.
- Impact on customer: Significant inconvenience, wasted time, and financial burden due to incorrect service.
However, another review offers a contrasting, positive experience, with a husband being "very impressed" with the service, noting "In and out same day Service for unexpected issue," and praising Service Advisor Bryan Lopes for handling the situation "quickly and thoroughly - keeping us informed of progress." This positive review highlights features such as:
- Efficiency and timely service: Quick resolution for unexpected issues.
- Effective communication: Keeping customers informed of progress.
- Professional and capable staff: Specific praise for a service advisor.
This stark contrast in customer experiences suggests that while the service department is capable of delivering excellent service in some instances, there may be inconsistencies in their processes or personnel that lead to highly negative outcomes for other customers. The negative review provides specific, actionable feedback that highlights potential systemic issues needing attention, while the positive review confirms their capacity for effective and customer-satisfying service.
In terms of promotional information, Cloninger Ford of Hickory Service, as a dealership, typically engages in various marketing strategies to attract customers to its service center. These often include:
- Online scheduling: Many dealerships offer convenient online platforms for booking service appointments.
- Service and Parts Specials: They frequently promote discounts on routine maintenance (e.g., oil changes, brake service, tire rotations) and parts through their website, local advertisements, or direct mail.
- Genuine Parts Assurance: Emphasizing the use of OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) parts as a guarantee of quality and compatibility.
- Certified Technicians: Highlighting the expertise and training of their staff.
- Customer Testimonials: Showcasing positive reviews, though this might be selective given the mixed feedback observed.
- Dealership Affiliation: Leveraging the trust and reputation associated with the Ford brand.
Customers can reach Cloninger Ford of Hickory Service via phone at (828) 328-2221 or their mobile number +1 828-328-2221 to inquire about services, schedule appointments, or discuss specific vehicle issues. Given the varying customer experiences, prospective clients might consider calling ahead to discuss their needs and clarify expectations regarding service timelines, costs, and communication protocols. Checking their official website for current service specials and further details on their offerings would also be advisable.
In conclusion, Cloninger Ford of Hickory Service, located at 1241 US Hwy 70 SE in Hickory, NC, serves as a significant "Auto Repair Station" specializing in Ford vehicles but also catering to other brands. Its environment is designed for comprehensive automotive care, and it offers a wide range of services from basic maintenance to complex repairs, utilizing genuine parts and certified technicians. While capable of delivering satisfactory and efficient service, as noted by some customers, there are also serious concerns raised regarding communication, transparency, and the quality of work in other instances. For local users, it represents an option for dealership-level service, but it would be prudent to ensure clear communication and expectations are established prior to engaging their services.

Cloninger Ford of Hickory Service Customer Reviews
Service department was dishonest and unprofessional. The services I requested were alignment, balance, rotation, diagnostics for an engine light, and steering column rattle. Dropped off at 8:45 am. I was told the vehicle would be done before end of day, and if it wasn’t, that I would be notified with ample time to plan. No communication was initiated by Ford at any point over the 10 hour period. I had to call just before closing to find out the status. When I picked it up, none of the services I requested were completed. Alignment couldn’t be completed and the explanation I received was a “broken bolt” of some kind. Truck pulled to the right worse than when I dropped it off. They rotated and balanced *only the passenger side, even after removing all 4 wheels. I know this because my tire pressures are different front and back They removed the old weights from the driver side without replacing them so the truck rode terribly worse for a week. My truck was perfectly aligned today with no additional steps or parts needed. Second, I was told there was nothing that could be done about the rattle in my steering column because it was “sealed” or “ self contained” and I would have to replace the whole component to fix it. This was false, the tech who fixed it today said this was a well known issue in the lower connection and has been resolved with a part replacement. Third, I was told the engine light was on due to a bad ambient temperature sensor (in the mirror?), the code being thrown for the temperature sensor was true however this was not a hardware issue but a software issue that was fixed with an update from ford connect Wednesday. Lastly, the lug nuts on all of my wheels were replaced without my approval, which I am certain needed to be done and that is understandable but again no contact was made to inform me of the service I was then expected to pay for without approving to prior. After not being able to make my appointment the service advisor attempted to invoice me for this half done job to top it off. I know mistakes happen, this was just outright lazy, dishonest, and unprofessional. Might want to take a look at who you have advising your customers and misusing your labor hours. I am not allowed much downtime from being on the road for work, and I wasted an entire day to get my truck there only to have to take a second day to get it fixed correctly. Just better is your motto, and that couldn’t be farther from the truth in my experience. Just terrible.
