Walmart Auto Care Centers Introduce

Walmart Auto Care Centers, including the one located at 5101 SE 14th St, Des Moines, IA 50320, USA, function as accessible and generally affordable auto repair stations primarily focused on basic vehicle maintenance and tire services. As an integral part of the larger Walmart Supercenter, these centers offer a convenient solution for customers to get routine car care done while they shop for other necessities. The phone number for this location is (515) 953-7407.

Environment and Facility

The environment of a Walmart Auto Care Center is typically designed for functionality and efficiency, given its integration within a bustling retail store. The service bay area is usually straightforward and equipped for quick services. While there isn't a dedicated luxury waiting lounge, customers can typically wait in the main Walmart store, which offers various amenities like restrooms, shopping options, and potentially a food court. This allows customers to utilize their waiting time productively by running errands or Browse the store's extensive merchandise. The center aims to provide a practical and no-frills approach to auto care, prioritizing convenience and competitive pricing. Signage might not always be clear on where to check in or out, which can sometimes lead to confusion for first-time visitors.

Services Offered

Walmart Auto Care Centers specialize in a range of common and essential vehicle maintenance services rather than complex repairs. Their service menu typically includes:

  • Oil Changes: This is one of their most popular services, offering various oil types such as conventional, high mileage, semi-synthetic, and full synthetic. Services often include a new oil filter and chassis lubrication where applicable.
  • Tire Services: This is another primary offering. Customers can purchase a wide selection of tires, including passenger, light truck & SUV, and specialty tires, directly from Walmart and have them installed. Services include tire mounting, balancing, rotation (often lifetime for tires purchased from Walmart), valve stem/TPMS service, and flat tire repair. They also offer a 50-mile lug re-torque service.
  • Battery Services: This includes battery performance checks and replacement services. They stock various automotive batteries and can install them.
  • Fluid Checks and Fills: They check and fill essential fluids like washer fluid, power steering fluid, and transmission fluid, along with coolant and brake fluid.
  • Filter Replacements: This includes air filter installation.
  • Wiper Blade and Headlight Installation: Customers can purchase wiper blades and headlights from the main store and have them installed at the Auto Care Center.
  • General Maintenance Checks: As a courtesy, many services include checks on tire pressure, air filter, and lights.

While they aim for quick service, especially for oil changes, customer reviews indicate that wait times can sometimes be longer than expected, even with appointments. Some customers have reported issues with scheduling and disorganization, such as cars being parked behind other vehicles that are undergoing longer services, leading to delays. The quality of customer service can also be inconsistent, with some reviews mentioning a lack of apology for inconveniences or unhelpful responses from staff.

Features

The key features of Walmart Auto Care Centers revolve around convenience, affordability, and accessibility.

  • Integrated Shopping Experience: The ability to shop inside the Walmart Supercenter while your car is being serviced is a significant convenience for many customers, maximizing their time.
  • Competitive Pricing: Walmart is known for its "everyday low prices," and this extends to their auto care services and products. They often offer some of the lowest average prices on tires and competitive rates for oil changes.
  • Wide Selection of Auto Parts and Products: Beyond services, the centers offer a comprehensive range of automotive replacement parts, oils, fluids, car care products, and even auto electronics that customers can purchase.
  • Certified Technicians: Walmart states that its automotive technicians are ASE Certified, aiming to ensure professional and knowledgeable service, though customer experiences regarding quality can vary.
  • Online Scheduling and Virtual Garage: Customers can schedule service appointments online for convenience. Walmart has also introduced a "Virtual Garage" feature where customers can store vehicle information to simplify finding compatible products and services and streamline future appointments.
  • Walmart+ Benefits: For Walmart+ members, there are additional auto care benefits, including free flat repair and a free road hazard warranty when purchasing new tires with installation, which provides added value and peace of mind.

However, consistent challenges noted in customer feedback include issues with timeliness, communication, and occasionally, the overall customer service experience. Appointments may not always be honored punctually, and some customers have reported feeling their time was not respected. There have also been instances where services were incomplete or not performed to the customer's satisfaction, such as system resets for new tires not being done or incorrect hubcap reinstallation.

Promotional Information

Walmart Auto Care Centers frequently leverage the broader Walmart brand for promotions. They promote their "everyday low prices" on services like oil changes and tire installations. Specific promotions often include:

  • Rollbacks and Special Offers: Similar to the main retail store, the Auto Care Centers run "Rollbacks" and special offers on various auto parts, tires, and services. These can be found on their website or in-store.
  • Competitive Installation Pricing: They highlight competitive installation fees for tires, especially if the tires are purchased from Walmart. An additional fee may apply for tires not purchased from Walmart.
  • Walmart+ Member Benefits: As mentioned, free flat repair and road hazard warranty for Walmart+ members are key promotional points aimed at enhancing value for loyal customers.
  • Online Scheduling and Convenience: They emphasize the ease of booking appointments online and the convenience of shopping while waiting for service.

Customers interested in services or purchasing parts can contact the Des Moines Auto Care Center at (515) 953-7407. The operating hours for the Auto Care Center are generally Monday to Saturday from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM and Sunday from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, though it's always advisable to confirm specific hours, especially on holidays or for particular services.

Walmart Auto Care Centers Customer Reviews

We made an appointment for 10 am and got in right away. We were stuck waiting for an hour because they parked our car in a garage behind a truck that was getting a battery replaced etc. why are we stuck waiting behind someone that is going to take longer then an oil change? I asked the manager and he blew me off saying nothing and walking away.

Came to get an oil change, sat in the line outside for 30 minutes before even being acknowledged that I was there. once finally being acknowledged, all I was told was to “back up and return tomorrow”. never received an apology for the inconvenience as my time was wasted and the customer service is very poor. Please do better.

Young man running the auto care Saturday morning was phenomenal. He was able to squeeze me in to get a tire changed as it had blown on the interstate driving through town. He definitely deserves some recognition for her service!

Went in to the service dept for a battery asked one of the techs to look real quick and let me.know if they could install it for me or not was told just a few seconds. Sat in my truck waiting while it was running 25 min didn't want to turn it off battery needed jumped 4 days in a row the negative temps killed it. Not one person came out to check it but another vehicle pulls up and they come right out and help them and goes back in without taking a quick look I already had my hood up for them. I went inside after that and bought my battery went back.out to my truck shut my hood and left. 45 min still no one stepped out.

The Manager is a joke. I had road hazard on the tires i purchased from him and he refused to help me. He started off very aggressive and refused to calm down. I asked him to quit speaking to me and he just kept being rude. He put my tire with a puncture back on my car.
