When seeking an auto repair station in Des Moines, Iowa, for vehicle maintenance or repair, local users often prioritize reliability, trustworthiness, and clear communication. Within the "Auto Repair Stations" category, **The Butcher Shop, DSM**, located at 611 SE 15th St, Des Moines, IA 50317, USA, has drawn significant attention. However, it is crucial for potential customers to approach this establishment with extreme caution, as public information, particularly from customer reviews, indicates severe and consistent issues with service quality, transparency, and customer satisfaction.
Based on the available customer reviews, the environment at The Butcher Shop, DSM, appears to be characterized by unreliability and a significant lack of accountability. One customer explicitly states, "I have gone to the shop during posted hours and it is never open." This suggests that the physical accessibility of the shop itself is a major concern, making it difficult for customers to drop off or pick up their vehicles, or even to inquire about the status of their repairs. Furthermore, the complete breakdown in communication, as detailed by multiple individuals, implies an environment where customer service is severely neglected. The review noting that the "gentleman stopped communicating with me mid-July" after a carburetor was dropped off in mid-June, and another where the customer "reached out over and over and over again and have been given multiple dates on when my bike would be done but the last time I physically went into the shop about two maybe 2 1/2 months ago my bike was still torn completely apart," paints a picture of disarray and unprofessionalism within the shop's operational environment. Such descriptions suggest a workspace that may be disorganized, with projects left unfinished for extended periods, and a general disregard for scheduled appointments or customer inquiries. The very name "The Butcher Shop" is even cited by one reviewer as a "red flag," indicating that even the perceived brand image might be a deterrent for some, given the nature of the complaints.
Regarding the services offered by The Butcher Shop, DSM, the available information primarily revolves around motorcycle repair. One customer specifically mentions dropping off a "1985 Honda Magna carburetor" for restoration, and another discusses having their "bike" dropped off for service. While these instances suggest that the shop may specialize in, or at least accept, motorcycle and potentially other small engine repairs, the quality and completion of these services are critically questioned by the reviews. The primary "service" customers report experiencing is a profound lack of service, marked by extreme delays, non-completion of paid-for work, and alleged theft. The customer who paid $500 in February 2023 and had not received their bike back by January 2024, nearly a year later, exemplifies the severe issues with service delivery. The request for "proof of when my parts were actually ordered maybe 9 to 10 times now And have never been provided that" further underscores a concerning lack of transparency regarding the actual work being performed and the parts being used. The services, or rather the lack thereof, as described by these customers, are indicative of a business that is failing to uphold its basic obligations within the "Auto Repair Stations" category, leaving customers with unfinished work and significant financial losses.
The features that distinguish The Butcher Shop, DSM, based on available reviews, are overwhelmingly negative and serve as stark warnings to potential customers. The most prominent "feature" is an alarming pattern of **non-completion of paid services and extreme delays**. Customers report waiting for months, even an entire year, for their vehicles to be returned, often in a disassembled state. Another critical feature is the **alleged theft of parts**, with one customer explicitly stating that the "gentlemen that work at this shop stole my 1985 Honda Magna carburetor." This is a severe accusation that directly impacts trust and the safety of leaving a vehicle at this establishment. Furthermore, a significant feature is the **complete breakdown in communication**. Customers describe being "ignored" after repeated attempts to reach the shop via phone and in-person visits. They recount being given "multiple dates" for completion that were never met, and being unable to obtain essential information like proof of part orders. The alleged **deception regarding the shop's location** – where the owner claimed to have moved due to a landlord issue, but the shop was later found to be in the same location – further highlights a disturbing lack of honesty. Lastly, the reviews consistently point to **extremely poor professionalism**, describing the experience as "the absolute worst professionalism I have ever ever ran across in my entire life." The consistent accusations of fake 5-star reviews also point to a misleading online presence, making it difficult for new customers to ascertain the true nature of the business without delving deeply into critical feedback.
Given the overwhelmingly negative customer feedback, it is important to address promotional information from a cautionary perspective. While a legitimate business would typically highlight positive aspects and offers, the publicly available reviews for The Butcher Shop, DSM, instead serve as a stark warning. The most prominent "promotional information" for local users is to "Avoid this place at all costs" and to "DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM!!" The collective experience of frustrated customers, who have lost significant money and time, acts as a powerful deterrent. The advice to "give your vehicle (and your wallet) some TLC" by calling other, reputable mechanics, implicitly promotes avoidance of this establishment. There is no positive promotional information to share based on the provided customer experiences; instead, the collective voice of past customers is a clear call to steer clear. Potential customers are advised to carefully consider the information presented in these reviews before attempting to contact The Butcher Shop, DSM, at (515) 249-3552 or +1 515-249-3552. The severity and consistency of the complaints suggest that any engagement with this auto repair station carries significant risk.

The gentlemen that work at this shop stole my 1985 Honda Magna carburetor. Been working to restore the bike and didn’t have enough time this summer to work on the carburetor. Dropped the piece off mid June and the gentleman stopped communicating with me mid-July. I have gone to the shop during posted hours and it is never open. The name alone should be enough of a red flag. Avoid this place at all costs all 5 star reviews are fake!

Absolute horrible place DO NOT DO BUISNESS WITH THEM!! I literally dropped my bike off and paid $500 feb 27th of 2023 and it is now January 6th of 2024 and I still do not have my bike back. I have reached out over and over and over again and have been given multiple dates on when my bike would be done but the last time I physically went into the shop about two maybe 2 1/2 months ago my bike was still torn completely apart, I’ve requested proof of when my parts were actually ordered maybe 9 to 10 times now And have never been provided that I reach out just to be ignored i’ve requested a refund and been told they were not in a position to be able to do that for me I was told by the shop owner, Brandon that their shop had to be moved because the landlord sold the building out from under them, but come to find out the shop is still in the same location and never moved But the fact that they did not move, and were still actually in the same location was information I had to find out on my own, this is the absolute worst professionalism I have ever ever ran across in my entire life and have tried for month after month after month after month to be cordial and Be understanding, but there is absolutely no God-given reason why anything should take this long and I am still currently waiting on a response for when my bike will actually be ready. I have missed out on an entire year of my life and riding with my bike, and like I said, I am still currently waiting to get my bike and even a response to my question of when will it be done and proof of my parts being ordered when I paid for them I would upload all the pics of the Convo between us but don’t know if I would get in any legal trouble for that…all I want is my dam bike back with the job done that I paid for YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!! I would give this place NO STARS if I could

I had my motorcycle stolen from me and was lucky enough to get it back, the thieves broke the ignition and messed with the wiring, I took it in and they got me back on the road! They referred me to places that could help with the bad spray paint damage as well.

What a great place doesn’t look like much but the owner and mechanics are very knowledgeable. They explained everything in detail ahead of time and estimated cost also didn’t do anything I didn’t want done and actually looked at the motor and transmission before making any decisions. Very friendly guys and easy to work with I highly recommend this company.

Fantastic place. On vacation and my bike lost a fuel pump. They went above and beyond getting me back on the road ASAP. If I was local, they would be my go to shop.
