Swedish Connection Introduce
Located at 3331 E 28th St, Tucson, AZ 85713, USA, Swedish Connection stands as a dedicated auto repair station, particularly renowned for its expertise in Volvo vehicles. This establishment, run by the highly experienced mechanic Roy, caters to local users seeking reliable and affordable service for their cars, with a strong emphasis on older Volvo models. You can reach them at (520) 403-7850 or +1 520-403-7850.
Swedish Connection operates out of Roy's personal garage, a setting that distinguishes it from larger dealership service centers. This intimate environment is described by customers as being "pretty well packed with tools and spare parts," indicating a hands-on approach and a readiness to tackle various repair needs. Unlike the often sterile and corporate atmosphere of a dealership, Swedish Connection offers a more personal and direct experience. This setup allows for reduced overhead, which directly translates into more competitive pricing for customers, a significant advantage over the higher costs typically associated with official Volvo dealerships.
Swedish Connection specializes in a range of repair and maintenance services, with a particular focus on the unique needs of older Volvo automobiles. While Roy's expertise is broad, it's important to note that he does not handle transmission work; however, he readily provides referrals to trusted partners like Aztec Transmission for such needs. Key services frequently highlighted by customers include:
- Front End Noise Diagnosis and Repair: Roy is adept at diagnosing and fixing common front end issues, such as clunking noises caused by worn spring seats, a frequent problem in older Volvos.
- Timing Belt and Water Pump Replacement: A critical maintenance item, especially for high-mileage vehicles, Roy performs timing belt and water pump replacements, ensuring the longevity and reliable operation of the engine.
- CV Boot Repair: Addressing torn CV boots is another routine service, vital for protecting the constant velocity joints and preventing more extensive driveline damage.
- "Check Engine" Light Diagnosis and Resolution: Customers praise Roy's ability to diagnose and resolve complex "Check Engine" light issues, often identifying underlying problems like cracked hoses in the vapor recovery system that larger dealers might overlook or charge significantly more to diagnose. This particular service has saved customers hundreds of dollars by enabling their vehicles to pass emissions tests.
- General Diagnostics and Inspection: Roy offers thorough inspections to identify potential issues, providing proactive maintenance recommendations and helping owners stay ahead of costly repairs.
Several features make Swedish Connection a highly recommended choice for Volvo owners in Tucson:
- Expert Knowledge and Experience: Roy’s years of experience with Volvo vehicles are consistently highlighted. Customers appreciate his ability to diagnose issues accurately and efficiently, often over the phone initially, saving them time and potential diagnostic fees. His deep understanding of older Volvo models is a significant asset.
- Honest and Transparent Communication: A standout feature of Swedish Connection is Roy's commitment to honesty and transparency. Customers repeatedly commend him for being "upfront" about repair needs and costs, ensuring they are never "ripped off."
- Proactive Communication and Visual Updates: Roy maintains excellent communication with customers throughout the repair process, often via text messages. He provides updates on his findings and, notably, attaches pictures illustrating the "sick parts" he discovers and the "good stuff he did." This visual documentation fosters trust and helps customers understand the work being performed on their vehicles.
- Personalized Service: The garage setting allows for a more personalized experience. Roy is known for taking the time to explain vehicle issues, share insights about other cars he has worked on, and even offer advice on maintaining the vehicle, fostering a sense of partnership with his clients.
- Cost-Effectiveness: By operating without the high overhead of a dealership, Swedish Connection offers services at significantly more affordable prices, making quality Volvo repair accessible to a broader range of owners.
Based on customer reviews, Swedish Connection comes highly recommended for owners of older Volvo automobiles. The primary promotion for this auto repair station comes from word-of-mouth referrals, driven by the consistently positive experiences of its clientele. The value proposition is clear: expert Volvo-specific knowledge, transparent pricing, and personalized service, all within a welcoming and honest environment.
While not explicitly mentioned as a promotional offer, the inherent cost savings compared to dealership services act as a significant draw. The ability to pass emissions tests after Roy’s repairs, saving customers hundreds of dollars on further diagnostic work at a dealer, serves as a powerful testament to his efficiency and effectiveness. For those seeking reliable and affordable service for their vintage Volvos, Swedish Connection stands out as a top choice in Tucson.

Swedish Connection Customer Reviews
My 2000 Volvo had been making clunking noises from the front end for a long time and I finally decided to do something about it. I called my usual Volvo repair shop The Revolvstore/Stuttgart Autohaus but they finally drew the line on my old Volvo, they wouldn’t work on any Volvo that old anymore. They suggested I contact Swedish Connection. When I described the symptoms to Roy he diagnosed it over the phone as spring seats but asked that I bring the car in for an inspection to see if the struts were leaking and needed replacing, in which case he would need to order them. It turns out that Swedish Connection is Roy’s garage, pretty well packed with tools and spare parts. The upside to this is that there isn’t the overhead and high prices of a Volvo dealership service center plus you get the benefit of all the years of experience Roy has and if you catch him at the right time he will tell you more about your vehicle and share some good stories about other vehicles he has worked on. The front end noise problem was just the spring seats so I got on the schedule for a few days later. When I got my car back after repair, driving away showed Roy had indeed fixed the front end noise problem. When I picked up my car after the spring seat repair, Roy indicated a few other things worthy of attention - a torn CV boot and the likely possibility that the timing belt had never been changed but based on mileage it was past due. I brought up that the ‘Check Engine’ light was on and for that reason the car had failed the emissions test for registration. He allowed that emissions problems might be beyond his testing capabilities and that I might need to take it to a dealer, but that if I went ahead with the other repairs that he would give a stab at solving the Check Engine light. So I set up an appointment for the timing belt/water pump/CV boot and when I picked up the car after that work, Roy indicated he had found the probable cause for the Check Engine light as well - a cracked hose in the vapor recovery system so he fixed that and cleared the code. That allowed the car to pass the emissions test and saved me hundreds of dollars that a dealer would have charged just for a diagnosis. One really great thing about Roy and his repairs is that he keeps in good touch (by text) through the process with what he finds and attaches pictures illustrating sick parts he finds and good stuff he did. Based on my very positive experience with Swedish Connection/Roy, I highly recommend them for service of your older Volvo automobile (except transmission work, Roy doesn't do transmission work, but will refer you to Aztec Transmission, a great business that I recommend also).

Amazing mechanic. He can be a bit brusque and to the point but he is honest, skilled and trustworthy. He has over 20 years of experience with all makes and models of Volvos. He isn't gonna try and rip you off. He'll tell you what's wrong and give you a reasonable price to fix it. I have been taking my 88 240 to him for over five years and he is a miracle worker. I trust anything he says and recommend him for anyone with any kind of Volvo.

Roy can be blunt and temperamental, but he's highly knowledgeable, skilled and honest.

The guy was a hard-headed prick and he couldn't even tell me the proper information for a battery size. I'll never go back there to be treated with such disrespect.
