Midstate Machine Introduce

For those in Des Moines, Iowa, and the surrounding regions seeking highly specialized and meticulous engine work, Midstate Machine stands as a premier destination. Located at 4045 Delaware Ave, Des Moines, IA 50313, USA, this establishment operates within the "Auto Repair Stations" category, but with a distinct focus on precision engine machining and rebuilding. Since its establishment in 1996, Midstate Machine has earned a stellar reputation among repair shops, car dealerships, area racers, and individual motorists for its prompt, expert work and sensible pricing, making it a cornerstone for comprehensive engine solutions.

The environment at Midstate Machine is, by necessity, a testament to precision engineering and specialized machinery. As a dedicated automotive machine shop, their facility is equipped with state-of-the-art tools and equipment for intricate engine work. This includes machinery for:

  • **Cylinder head reconditioning and repair**
  • **Crankshaft grinding, polishing, and welding**
  • **Cylinder boring and honing**
  • **Engine balancing**
  • **Milling and presswork**
  • **Magnafluxing (for detecting cracks)**
  • **Port matching for performance applications**

The workspace is likely highly organized, clean, and specifically designed to facilitate the meticulous nature of engine assembly and component reconditioning. Given their expertise in high-performance engines and classic car builds, it's also probable that their facility is equipped to handle a variety of engine types, from standard automotive to even agricultural (as evidenced by the Farmall H review) and racing applications. The addition of a new, state-of-the-art chassis dynamometer in 2003 further enhances their environment, providing a dedicated space for performance testing, tuning, and diagnostic analysis, allowing them to measure horsepower, torque, and wheel speed, and even simulate quarter-mile runs. This specialized environment ensures that all engine components are handled with the utmost care and precision, critical for optimal performance and longevity.

The services offered by Midstate Machine are highly specialized, focusing on the intricate aspects of engine repair, rebuilding, and performance enhancement. Unlike general auto repair shops that might perform oil changes or brake jobs, Midstate Machine delves deep into the heart of the engine. Their comprehensive suite of services includes:

  • **Complete Engine Rebuilding:** From tear-down to assembly, they provide full engine rebuilding services, which come with a notable **three-year, unlimited mileage warranty** on engines rebuilt by them. This highlights their confidence in the quality and durability of their work.
  • **Cylinder Head Reconditioning:** This critical service involves resurfacing cylinder heads, valve jobs, and ensuring proper sealing and airflow, as confirmed by a customer who had their "cylinder head reworked."
  • **Crankshaft Grinding, Polishing, and Welding:** Essential for restoring crankshafts to optimal specifications, ensuring smooth engine operation and longevity.
  • **Cylinder Boring and Honing:** Precisely boring cylinders to correct dimensions and honing them to create the proper surface for piston rings, crucial for compression and oil control.
  • **Engine Balancing:** A key service for high-performance engines and smooth operation, reducing vibrations and improving power delivery.
  • **Custom Engine Parts and Performance Builds:** Their work with racing engines and "Midstate Performance at Work" sections on their website indicate a strong capability in building custom performance engines and sourcing high-quality new engine parts, including components like camshafts, pistons, and intake manifolds.
  • **Milling and Presswork:** General machining capabilities that support various aspects of engine component repair and custom fitting.
  • **Magnafluxing:** A non-destructive testing method used to detect surface and subsurface flaws in ferrous materials, ensuring the integrity of critical engine components.
  • **Install Cam Bearings and Core Plugs:** Specific, detailed tasks that are part of thorough engine assembly.
  • **Chassis Dyno Services:** Utilizing their dynamometer to measure engine output, perform diagnostic tests (like air-to-fuel ratio analysis), and fine-tune engines for optimal performance, catering to racers and enthusiasts alike.

They cater to a diverse clientele, from professional repair shops and dealerships needing specialized machine work to individual car owners and racers seeking to rebuild or enhance their engines. Their expertise extends even to older or specialized engines, as evidenced by the "Farmall H block surfaced" review, demonstrating versatility beyond just modern automotive engines.

The most prominent **features** of Midstate Machine are their **exceptional precision and expertise** in engine machining, their **unwavering integrity**, and their **customer-first approach**.
