Midas Introduce

Midas, located at 2201 E Euclid Ave, Des Moines, IA 50317, USA, is a well-established automotive service provider that operates as a full-service **Auto Repair Station**. While the prompt mentions "auto parts store," Midas is widely recognized as a comprehensive service center that not only utilizes and sells parts as part of their repair work but primarily focuses on providing a broad spectrum of vehicle maintenance and repair services. This distinction is crucial for local users, as they will find Midas equipped to handle a wide range of mechanical issues rather than just stocking parts for sale.

The **environment** at a Midas location, including the one in Des Moines, is typically designed for both functionality and customer convenience. The exterior usually presents a clean and professional appearance, with clear signage indicating its identity as a Midas auto service center. Ample parking is generally available to accommodate customer vehicles. Upon entering, customers usually find a dedicated waiting area that aims to be comfortable and clean, often including amenities like seating, restrooms, and sometimes Wi-Fi or reading materials. The service bays are the core of the operation, characterized by a clean, organized, and well-equipped setup. These bays house lifts, diagnostic tools, and a variety of specialized equipment necessary for performing a wide array of automotive repairs. The overall atmosphere strives to convey competence and efficiency, providing a setting where customers can feel confident in the care their vehicle will receive. However, as noted in customer reviews, the customer-facing aspects, particularly interactions at the front desk, can significantly shape the perceived environment and overall experience.

Midas offers a comprehensive array of **services and goods for sale**, positioning itself as a one-stop shop for many automotive needs. Their primary services include:

  • Brake Services: This is a cornerstone of Midas's offerings, including brake inspection, pad and rotor replacement, caliper repair, and brake fluid flushes.
  • Exhaust System Services: Another historically strong area for Midas, covering muffler repair and replacement, catalytic converter service, and exhaust pipe repair.
  • Oil Changes and Fluid Services: Routine maintenance such as conventional, synthetic blend, and full synthetic oil changes, as well as transmission fluid, power steering fluid, and coolant flushes.
  • Tire Services: Tire rotation, balancing, flat repair, and sales of new tires from various brands.
  • Steering and Suspension: Repair and replacement of shocks, struts, ball joints, tie rods, and wheel alignment.
  • Engine Diagnostics and Repair: Utilizing advanced diagnostic equipment to identify and resolve issues with the engine, including check engine light diagnosis, tune-ups, and more complex engine repairs.
  • Battery Services: Battery testing, replacement, and charging.
  • Heating and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Services: Inspection, repair, and recharging of vehicle air conditioning systems.
  • Preventative Maintenance: Scheduled maintenance services as recommended by vehicle manufacturers to ensure longevity and performance.
While they do not operate as a retail auto parts store in the same vein as an AutoZone, all repairs performed at Midas involve the "sale" and installation of new parts. These parts are typically sourced from reputable suppliers and are integral to the services rendered, ensuring quality and compatibility with the vehicle being serviced.

Several **features** distinguish Midas as an auto repair station, though customer experiences can highlight both strengths and weaknesses.

  • Skilled Mechanics: A significant positive feature, as highlighted by a customer review stating, "The mechanics do great work! I have no complaints with them." This suggests that the core technical competence of the service staff is strong, which is paramount for an auto repair facility.
  • Thorough Inspections: Another positive feature mentioned in a review is that "they did a thorough inspection of my coolant line and other parts of my car." This indicates a commitment to comprehensive assessment, which helps in identifying potential issues early and ensuring the vehicle's overall health.
  • Brand Recognition and Trust: Midas is a nationally recognized brand with a long history in automotive service. This established presence often instills a degree of trust and reliability in customers who are familiar with the brand's reputation for certain services, particularly brakes and exhaust.
  • Convenient Location: The address at 2201 E Euclid Ave, Des Moines, IA, places it in an accessible area for many local residents.
However, a critical aspect of Midas's features, and a significant point of concern raised in a customer review, pertains to **customer service and professionalism, particularly from management**. The review details an extremely unprofessional incident involving the manager engaging in "a several minute long political rant about 'what's wrong with the kids these days,' along with a rant about LGBT folks and a rant about teenage girls' clothing." This behavior is highly detrimental to customer experience and reflects a severe lapse in professional conduct, leading to a direct statement of "I will not be coming back to the Euclid Midas store." This underscores that while the mechanics may perform excellent technical work, the overall customer experience, heavily influenced by front-desk interactions, can overshadow the quality of the repair itself. For Midas, ensuring consistent professionalism and customer-focused communication from all staff, especially management, is a critical feature that impacts customer retention and reputation.

For **promotional information**, Midas, being part of a larger franchise, regularly offers a variety of promotions to attract and retain customers. While specific current promotions would need to be verified directly with the Des Moines location, common Midas promotions include:

  • Brake Service Specials: Often offering discounts on brake pad replacement or comprehensive brake inspections.
  • Oil Change Deals: Competitive pricing on standard and synthetic oil changes, sometimes bundled with tire rotation or multi-point inspections.
  • Tire Promotions: Discounts on specific tire brands or packages that include installation and balancing.
  • Seasonal Maintenance Packages: Specials for preparing vehicles for extreme weather conditions (e.g., winter check-ups, summer AC service).
  • Online Coupons: Midas frequently provides printable or digital coupons on its national and local websites.
  • Fleet Services: Offering specialized rates and services for businesses with multiple vehicles.
Local users in Des Moines interested in Midas at 2201 E Euclid Ave are encouraged to contact them directly by phone at (515) 259-1638 or +1 515-259-1638 to inquire about their current services, pricing, and any ongoing promotions. Visiting the location in person also allows customers to speak with staff and clarify any concerns, especially in light of the varied customer experiences mentioned. Despite the noted customer service issue with one individual, the positive feedback regarding the mechanics' work suggests that for those prioritizing the technical quality of repairs, Midas can be a viable option, provided that all interactions meet professional standards.

The mechanics do great work! I have no complaints with them. Unfortunately, the manager felt the need to sit at the register and throw a several minute long political rant about "what's wrong with the kids these days" (direct quote), along with a rant about LGBT folks and a rant about teenage girls' clothing. How unprofessional! He only stopped when a lady came in asking about tires. I will not be coming back to the Euclid Midas store.

The workers were all super nice and they did a thorough inspection of my coolant line and other parts of my car. One of the best experiences I’ve had with anybody in the automotive industry.

On Feb 19, I was at a conference 2.5 hours from home and needed help with the bottom guard of my loaner car. They took time out of their day to quickly help me secure the bottom so I could make it home. It was unexpected blessing.

My father and I were passing through Des Moines when the front left half shaft cv axel of my car snapped on I-80. We were so fortunate to pull into this Midas because Chris and Fernando stayed open well past 6pm to help us. They diagnosed the problem, gave us a reasonable estimate for repairs, recommended a hotel to stay the night, and make sure the U-haul trailer I was towing was stored safely inside the shop. Derick kept us updated about the repairs the following morning and we were back on the road by 2pm. It's not an overstatement to say they saved the day AND my cross-country move. Thank you for being so friendly and professional when we really needed it!

I've been coming to this Midas since 2019. I took my car in for an oil change in October, and the check engine light was on, so needed them to do the diagnostic check. They told me that it was the timing chain, plus another code that needed done. With everything included the back struts, which I knew about, was going to be $3200. Spent the next 3 months saving up money to get these repairs done. Called to make an appointment, and they informed me they wouldn't be able to do that because they had to let their tech go and haven't hired a replacement. They referred me to another one of their locations. I chose the one on Douglas. Called them let them know what was going on. They said to bring it in to get the diagnostic re-checked, because the tech that did it last time, (the one E Euclid let go) was unreliable, and before spending that kind of money, the guy wanted to be sure. Come to find out, not only was it NOT the timing chain and the other code that was first told to me, but actually two different codes! Those two, plus I need a new thermostat, and air filter. For all of this, they quoted me $1331. Wow, I was super happy at this point, even though I was thinking I could have had it done earlier, since I wouldn't have needed to come up with as much money. I was going to have them complete this things, but wanted to make sure getting those fixed would help with my car starting to stall while driving, and not wanted to go if I had stopped. The guy said those sounded more like the transmission, and he wanted to check into that before having them do the other things that needed done. Sure enough, he found out that instead something with my transmission was bad, but he wasn't sure what, but that there was engine oil mixed in the wuth tranamission fluid. He said he would suggest going to an actual transmission shop. Obviously, that's going to be quite a chunk of money to fix, on top of what was already the matter. This information would have been great to know when I first took my car in. The tech at E Euclid was let go, which I'm happy to see, but now I sit here with a bad transmission, when maybe it wouldn't have been this bad if I was given the correct information the first time. I will never come back to this location. Ever. Thank you to the guy at the DOUGLAS location! I appreciate everything he did. He didn't even charge me to get the car checked again because of the other locations mistake.
