Melvindale Motor & Transmission Introduce

For vehicle owners in Melvindale, Michigan, finding a reliable auto repair station for services ranging from routine maintenance to complex transmission and engine work is crucial. Melvindale Motor & Transmission, located at 17672 Dix Rd, Melvindale, MI 48122, operates within the Auto Repair Stations category. The provided information includes their name, address, and contact phone numbers ((313) 436-0470 and +1 313-436-0470), along with two significantly different customer reviews that offer contrasting perspectives on the potential experiences at this establishment.

One customer recounts a positive experience, highlighting an instance of exceptional kindness and helpfulness. This reviewer had a flat tire while staying at a nearby hotel and walked into Melvindale Motor & Transmission seeking assistance. They were promptly helped by someone named Brad, who provided an air tank, effectively saving them from needing a tow. The reviewer expressed sincere gratitude for this act of kindness, which suggests a potential for helpful and community-oriented service at this location, particularly in unexpected situations.

However, the second customer review details a profoundly negative experience involving a significant transmission repair. This lengthy and detailed account alleges issues with pricing, the quality of the rebuild, additional charges for seemingly simple related services, and even damage to the vehicle. The reviewer initially sought a transmission rebuild or replacement, opting for a rebuild based on an estimated cost of $1800. The final charge for the rebuild was $2100, with $1000 attributed to labor. Following the repair, the transmission reportedly shifted hard, necessitating a return visit. During this follow-up, the reviewer requested additional services (water pump and coolant sensor replacement) and was charged $250 for 2.9 hours of labor for the water pump replacement, a task the reviewer, not a professional mechanic, claims could be done in an hour. This discrepancy in labor time and cost is a significant point of contention.

Furthermore, the reviewer alleges poor communication and a lack of accountability from the shop regarding the transmission adjustment and the labor charges. The experience culminated in the reviewer finding a dent on their front fender and greasy handprints on their car. Subsequent updates from the same reviewer indicate ongoing issues with the rebuilt transmission (failure to downshift properly when warm), further instances of the car being brought back for repairs, and a continued lack of resolution. The reviewer explicitly labels the shop as "crooks" and strongly advises others to avoid them, suggesting that the initial transmission issue was misdiagnosed and that the shop attempted to blame unrelated parts for the ongoing problem. This detailed and negative account raises serious concerns about the expertise, honesty, and quality of service at Melvindale Motor & Transmission.

Given these starkly contrasting reviews, local users face a challenging situation in forming an objective opinion. The positive review highlights a moment of helpfulness, while the extensive negative review details significant issues with a major repair. It is crucial to consider the nature of the services involved. The positive review pertains to a simple act of assistance, while the negative review concerns a complex and costly transmission rebuild.

As an "Auto Repair Station" specializing in "Motor & Transmission," Melvindale Motor & Transmission likely offers a range of services focused on these critical vehicle components. These services might typically include:

  • Transmission Repair and Rebuild: Diagnosing and fixing transmission issues, as well as complete rebuilding or replacement of transmissions.
  • Engine Repair and Maintenance: Addressing various engine problems, from minor repairs to complete overhauls, as well as routine engine maintenance.
  • General Automotive Repair: Potentially offering other common auto repair services such as brake work, oil changes, and more.
  • Diagnostic Services: Utilizing tools and expertise to identify the root causes of vehicle problems, particularly those related to the engine and transmission.

However, the negative review casts doubt on the quality and pricing of at least their transmission rebuild services. Local users specifically seeking these types of repairs should be particularly cautious.

Information regarding the environment of Melvindale Motor & Transmission is not provided in the text. Typically, an auto repair shop would have service bays equipped for working on vehicles and potentially a customer waiting area. The cleanliness and organization of the facility can sometimes reflect the professionalism of the operation. However, without any specific details or comments on the environment, local users will need to form their own impression if they choose to visit the location.

Features that might be associated with Melvindale Motor & Transmission are also not explicitly mentioned. A shop specializing in motor and transmission work might boast experienced technicians with expertise in these areas, specialized tools and equipment for these complex repairs, or a warranty on their rebuild or replacement services. However, the negative review suggests potential issues with the expertise or the execution of the rebuild, as well as concerns about additional charges and vehicle care. The positive review, while commendable for the specific instance, doesn't provide insight into the shop's general features or policies.

Promotional information is absent from the provided data. Auto repair shops sometimes offer discounts on specific services or seasonal specials. Local users interested in potential promotions would need to contact Melvindale Motor & Transmission directly to inquire.

In conclusion, Melvindale Motor & Transmission in Melvindale, MI, presents a highly ambiguous picture based on the limited and conflicting customer reviews. While one instance of helpfulness is noted, a detailed and serious negative review alleges overcharging, poor workmanship on a transmission rebuild, questionable additional charges, and vehicle damage. Local users considering this auto repair station, particularly for significant engine or transmission work, should proceed with extreme caution. It is strongly recommended to seek additional reviews and potentially obtain multiple quotes from other reputable auto repair shops in the area before entrusting their vehicle to Melvindale Motor & Transmission. The stark contrast in customer experiences highlights the potential for variability in service quality and customer satisfaction at this location. Further investigation and due diligence are advised.

Melvindale Motor & Transmission Customer Reviews

We stayed at the hotel next door for my birthday, we woke u to a flat tire. Definitely thought I we needed a tow. I walked in to this establishment and Brad was happy to help us with an air tank. Needless to say, he saved us. Much appreciated. Thank you so much for being so kind.

OK. This may take a bit to write. I needed a transmission either rebuilt or replaced. Told them whatever was cheaper, go ahead and do. They estimated $1800 (just did one exactly like yours last week) to rebuild, or $1650 + labor for a replacement (labor is cheaper for a swap than rebuild for obvious reasons). So, I chose to let them rebuild mine (expecting $1800 since it was $1800 last week for the exact same job). They rebuilt it, took 3 days, and charged me $2100 ($1000 of that was labor). I paid them. Day 2 it's shifting hard from 1st to 2nd, I call, they say bring it in, they'll adjust it. It starts running hotter than normal, while I'm driving it around town, so I ask them to change the Water pump & a coolant sensor (kicked out a false hot coolant the previous week) while they had the transmission out adjusting it. I call at the end of the day, and they tell me the bill is $250. 2.9H labor... To change a water pump (I can do it in an hour alone in a parking lot, and I'm not a mechanic). At this time I tell them, I'll pay them, but they won't get anymore of my business. I ask if I was paying for the transmission adjustment labor, he says they didn't touch the transmission. Then tells me I must have talked to someone that didn't relay all the information (not my problem). I tell him I'm on my way, don't worry about it, I'll get it checked elsewhere. I drive there, 10m drive, and my car is in the garage with the hood up. I pay the $250, and wait 10 more minute for them to finish my car. 20m to fix a hard shift on a transmission, 2.9H to change a water pump. You got my money, have a nice life. No one should EVER use this shop. Unless you're broke down in front of their shop, go elsewhere... Try calling a tow to ANYWHERE else. They're crooks. They even dented my front fender, and left greasy handprints all across the front of my car. Shop owner is calling me in the morning about the dent, but I'm done with them. Shams. Totally unprofessional. Hope they go bankrupt. Please, if you are reading this BEFORE using them, use someone else. *Update My car has been back in to them 3 times for the transmission they rebuilt. They dented my front fender, left Grease all down both front fenders (hand prints). And, my car still won't shift out of overdrive (downshift) once it's warm, into passing gear (to climb a hill on interstate). Honestly don't know what to do. They NEED to fix their work, but I don't trust them anymore. They even tried to blame it on an intake manifold... Took it to another mechanic, whom fixed it for half what he said, and it wasn't the manifold. I just needed a coil. These guys are crooks, and I am stuck letting them NOT fix my car... I want so badly to reduce my rating to a 1 star, but my transmission IS shifting... Just not correctly

Part 1 I wish I could rate this whole place a no star rating because they deserve nothing. The owner is a horrible person to nice people and after taking my vehicle to another shop come to find out I have to get my rear brakes done again after only having them done by Brads shop in November 10, 2024 and it’s December 27, 2024. There’s so much I want to say about my experience here. Half the staff doesn’t speak English for one so there’s already a language barrier every time I come to this shop. The shop is supposed to open at 8am but no one begins to arrive til maybe 9-9:30/10am. So I’m normally waiting an hour minimum when I get there just waiting for Brad to get there because he’s the only one that handles my car and paperwork. Up until December 26 I had never seen Brad mistreat me. I spoke with Brad on Saturday December 21st at 4:12pm I called to ask if it was OK to bring my car in on Monday December 23, 2024 to get the work done that we had previously discussed. He said it was OK to bring it in and that he was gonna order the parts that day so that the parts will be available when My Car got there on Monday and he proceeded to send me a work order or receipt whatever you wanna call it for the work he was gonna be doing on my car with the price at 4:16pm. In my mind, I’m thinking this is a blessing in disguise because I’ve been having issues with my vehicle and he gave me a really good price for getting the work done and the shop is down the street from me. I needed quite a bit of work done in the front of my vehicle this is my third time using their service and it is the last time I will ever go to that shop again. Honestly, I hope it closes. These people are definitely not good people to do business with and I learned that yesterday after having two different hostile conversations with Brad, who is the owner/boss. So Monday approaches I wait til 9am to show up and I know they’re not gonna be there when they say they’re gonna open which I genuinely not too bothered by because it’s early already but if you’re gonna put a time that you’re gonna be at your shop on your website or on Google maps you should actually be there at that time. So I’m sitting in my car in the parking lot of the shop for over an hour waiting for Brad I see his first employee arrive somewhere closer to 930 almost 10 o’clock right this is the second time me and this employee have met around this time, waiting for Brad to show up at the shop. The employee can only speak Spanish so he’s using the translator to communicate to me That Brad will be there soon. After 10 o’clock, I’m still waiting for Brad. Half his employee speak Spanish at least the ones I’ve dealt with and not one but two of them kept telling me I should leave the car and go home and that Brad will be there soon. Brad was not there soon. I don’t think Brad showed up at all that day, but I didn’t trust my gut and I let them give me a ride home which is only down the street and I gave them my car because they kept telling me, Brad will be there soon. Even when his employee was dropping me off he was on the phone with Brad. I normally only leave my car with Brad, but normally when they say he’s coming soon, he normally shows up not too long after but this time was different. I asked his employee before I walked away from him. Will you have him contact me so I can get an update on my vehicle And he kind of gave me like this nod or this weird mysterious yes because there’s a language barrier and proceeds to ask me does Brad have my info? I said Brad knows who I am. He has my information and the reason I said that is because Brad knows My Car and I didn’t want anyone working on my vehicle until Brad got there. Brad wanted to act like he didn’t know that I was dropping my car off on Monday after we had a whole conversation and he even sent me a quote letting me know what I would be paying and that he was ordering parts for me so that my car would be ready to go on Monday. Had Brad actually went to the shop Monday he would have seen my vehicle and known it was mine. This is a small shop!

Very rude disrespectful. Called me a liar because I am a female. Told me I wasn’t telling the truth about my vehicle. Never go there. Grease everywhere. Wanted to charge me for doing nothing to my car. They need to be reported to the bbb and the state
