As an Auto Parts Store, their main function is to supply customers with the necessary components to maintain and repair their vehicles. While tires are a core offering, they often stock batteries, and depending on the location, may provide services like tire installation, wheel balancing, and potentially other minor repair or maintenance services.

As an Auto Parts Store within the automotive service landscape, Mavis Discount Tire serves a critical role by providing local users with access to the parts they need to keep their vehicles operational. Their presence on City Ave in Bala Cynwyd makes them a potentially convenient option for residents and those working in the area seeking tires or other automotive components. The environment of a typical Mavis Discount Tire location includes a retail space where tires and other products are displayed, as well as service bays where installations and other services can be performed. Customers can likely expect a sales counter where they can inquire about products, pricing, and schedule services.

The primary service offered by Mavis Discount Tire, as their name suggests, is the sale and installation of tires. They likely stock a variety of tire brands and sizes to fit different makes and models of vehicles, catering to various driving needs and budgets. Their services related to tires would typically include tire mounting, balancing, rotations, and repairs (such as flat tire patching). Additionally, as indicated by the customer reviews, some Mavis Discount Tire locations also offer state vehicle inspections, which is a significant service for Pennsylvania drivers.

Beyond tires, Mavis Discount Tire functions as an Auto Parts Store by selling other automotive components. Based on the reviews, they offer batteries for sale and installation. It is also common for tire shops to carry related parts such as wheels, lug nuts, and tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) components. Depending on the specific location and their service capabilities, they might also offer other basic auto parts or facilitate access to a broader range of parts through their supply chain.

One of the customer reviews presents a concerning account of a state inspection experience at this specific Mavis Discount Tire location. The reviewer alleges that the store attempted to fraudulently fail their vehicle for inspection, citing tire tread depth and battery condition issues that the reviewer claims did not violate Pennsylvania state inspection guidelines. The review details a disagreement with the store's manager regarding these alleged failures and describes a negative customer service experience. The reviewer further mentions contacting the state audit department, which reportedly confirmed that the failure reasons were illegitimate. Additionally, the reviewer noted loose bolts found on their vehicle after the inspection.

It is important to consider this review as one individual's experience and to recognize that online reviews can be subjective. However, the detailed nature of the complaint, including specific references to state regulations and photographic evidence, warrants attention. This account suggests a potential issue with the accuracy and integrity of the state inspection services provided at this location, as well as concerns about customer service and the handling of vehicles.

In contrast to the negative review, another customer provides a positive account, stating, "Kevin and his team were awesome! My car needed last minute repair shortly before closing time and they graciously assisted and repaired it. Friendly and great customer service—highly recommend coming to Mavis on City Ave!" This review highlights positive aspects such as helpfulness, efficient service, and friendly customer service, suggesting that experiences at this location can vary significantly.

Considering these contrasting reviews, it is challenging to provide a definitive assessment of the environment, services, and features of this Mavis Discount Tire location. While they operate as an Auto Parts Store offering tires and batteries, and seemingly provide state inspection services and potentially some repairs, the conflicting customer experiences raise questions about the consistency and reliability of these services. The negative review points to potential issues with inspection practices and customer service, while the positive review indicates instances of excellent service.

As an Auto Parts Store that also offers services like tire installation and state inspections, Mavis Discount Tire aims to be a convenient option for local vehicle owners. However, the significant discrepancy in customer reviews suggests that potential customers should exercise caution and perhaps seek additional information or consider their specific needs and priorities when deciding whether to utilize their services. In conclusion, Mavis Discount Tire at 121 City Ave in Bala Cynwyd, PA, functions as an Auto Parts Store with a primary focus on tires and also offering batteries. They also reportedly provide state vehicle inspections and may offer some repair services. Customer reviews present a mixed picture, with one review detailing serious allegations of fraudulent inspection practices and poor customer service, while another praises the team for their helpfulness and friendly service. Mavis Discount Tire Customer Reviews

AVOID MAVIS TIRE AT ALL COSTS!! They prey on customers who are unfamiliar with the state inspection guidelines, and will fail your vehicle for inspection, even though it meets or exceeds state inspection guidelines. This is fraud, and if you keep reading I'll explain each part of their scam and my experience - be the judge and look at the photos for yourself. So after dropping my car off for inspection, I get a call back saying I need all 4 tires replaced AND a new battery. They tell me my tires are low (3/32 + 4/32) on the front, and 5/32 for both on the back. I tell them I'll call them back. I go to consult Penndot's Publication 45 Subchapter E (link below) which is the PA state inspection requirements and it tells me I only need 2/32 for the tires, and literally the only thing it says about batteries is under §175.80(c)(6), which basically says your battery needs to be properly tied down (which it is, see photo). It occurs to me that maybe they're not trying to fraudulently sell me hundreds of dollars of things I don't need by denying my inspection, and maybe they're just ignorant of the state regulations? So I call them back and try to understand where there is misalignment. Their manager Carter answers the phone and I quickly get a miscellany of different answers as to why my vehicle doesn't pass: My tires are apparently from 2019, those NEVER pass. My battery voltage is too low (but car turns on fine, and there are no dashboard lights on??) and is also from 2019 and those also never pass. I try explaining to Carter that those may be recommendations the shop has as it relates to work his shop would like to complete, but that the state regulations don't actually say my vehicle should not pass based on anything he has said. Unfortunately, Carter becomes VERY incensed when even slightly challenged as to why what he's saying might not have any grounding in the state's inspection publication. He's yelling at me over the phone, cutting me off and talking over me. So not only did Mavis deliver a fraudulent inspection to me, I'm also experiencing absolutely unacceptable customer service (from the manager at that). I go into the the shop to pick up the car, and it's the same story: Carter is belligerent, rude and raises his voice to me. I managed to get a printout of the Work Order, which I've included as a photo here, so you the reader of this review can be the judge. The battery comes up vaguely under the inspection point "Other", and when I pressed Carter as to why I needed a brand new battery when there is nothing in the state regs on battery replacement, he gave me the Autel receipt (see photo) indicating the battery is due for replacement (believe it or not I do battery replacements myself when they are needed because it's simple to do). Lest the vague wording of the work order be misconstrued as a tiedown issue, you can see in the photo my battery is properly restrained with the original manufacturer tie down. So I'm not happy about this whole situation: In addition to Mavis fraudulently failing my inspection, I have the manager Carter yelling at me in front of his other employees (Jakir Jones - who did the inspection, and one other I can't remember the name of. Both of whom demonstrated a lot more calm and maturity while their boss was throwing a fit). What is stupidly frustrating about the situation is Carter was never intellectually curious enough to actually engage with me on what the state regulations actually say. It was simply excuse after excuse, and he never actually considered whether I as the customer might actually have a point. If this is what all Mavis are like, I NEVER want to go back. So after getting my vehicle back I call the state audit department and open a case with them. When the state rep asks me to get the shop ID off of the emissions sticker (which fortunately they passed!!), I notice 5 bolts just randomly sitting between my hood and windshield (see picture). ARE YOU SERIOUS???? A state rep calls me back a day later and confirms the failure reasons on the work order are illegitimate.

Kevin was super friendly from the start! My car was towed there and after looking it over he was able to let me know that everything would be taken care of. During my overall check up on the car, he walked me out to show me all the recommendations that were needed. Definitely recommend this place! Come early if possible and you will be done early. Waiting room clean and nice vibes with the music!
