Couldn't be happier! I just moved to Elizabethton and needed a new mechanic. As you know a truly GOOD mechanic is scarcer than hens teeth. I stopped by Gary's Auto Repair as my car was not starting correctly. He wasn't my first stop but he was the last. Instead of saying I needed an expensive starter or alternator (how would I know differently?), he determined it was my battery. I was on the road 10 minutes later. He is a very nice person to have a conversation with and never gave me an inkling of hurry, hurry, I'm too busy. My car will need routine work soon and I know who I'll trust it with.

We were camping in the area and ended up having brake problems on our truck. They ordered the parts and had them delivered that day and were able to fix our truck that afternoon. It was a huge relief for us as we had a long trip pulling a trailer the next day. We could not be happier with the work done and the guys we dealt with. Horrible communication. Quoted me one price heavy on labor and then when coming to pick it up found another problem also heavy on labor cost. If would have quoted both before hand would not have had either fixed. cost of repairs are about as much as car is worth. Also took much longer than I was told, highly suggest to avoid this shop…..and to update the review after picking up my car the problem I took it in for wasn’t even fixed. When calling shop back he basically called me a liar when I can clearly hear the same issue that I took it in for. So everything the owner said below was true to that extent he did not go over what was quoted and maybe he couldn’t have known, but also didn’t diagnosis the problem and fix what I asked…. Final update. I didn’t choose to not get problem fixed, I chose to not let you work on my car anymore. Took to another mechanic and the actually fixed the problem that I requested to be fixed within 72 hours for less than half the price. And it wasn’t the other issue you told me it was, so that also would not have fixed problem. Not sure what Gary’s auto actually did to my car, but I paid $1000 for them doing something that didn’t fix issue that car was brought in for. So 100% would avoid them. Even his reply to my comment shows his attitude saying he didn’t have to tell me something and still calling me a liar

Shannon was amazing. I bought a car from carvana and the battery died the 2nd day. He told me they will call carvana and take care of it. Carvana paid for the battery from the call Shannon made. That is exactly what he did. Great service, friendly and felt taken care of. Will Def be coming back in the future. I highly highly recommend Gary's auto repair.

When they are well staffed, they are good. But lately staffing has been an issue and its been a rough experience. Every interaction I've had with their management has been positive. That being said, I am editing my glowing review of Gary's to say I don't use them any more. After 3 instances of Gary's taking well over a week a piece for not terribly complicated jobs on my truck (fuel pump, breaks, upper radiator hose), I just can't handle the lack of communication, the crawling pace of work, and the mistakes. The last time I dropped my truck off, they installed the upper radiator hose incorrectly and it ended up getting cut by the radiator fan. Shannon offered to fix it, but by that point I was done. Not bad people. Not untrustworthy. Just in a rut of not great speed or communication. I'm sure it will get better: Edit: I wish you could see their comment. But I updated my rating to 4 stars from 3. They are good people trying to do good work. Everyone makes mistakes. I would never send anyone away from Gary's, but my work truck is my paycheck.
