Custom Paint and Collision Introduce

For vehicle owners in Forest City, Iowa, and the surrounding areas in need of specialized auto body and paint services, **Custom Paint and Collision** operates as an established entity within the "Auto Repair Stations" category. Located at **3240 US-69, Forest City, IA 50436, USA**, this shop focuses on restoring vehicles to their pre-accident condition, offering services ranging from minor cosmetic touch-ups to more extensive collision repairs. The feedback from customers, both positive and critical, provides a comprehensive view of their operational nuances and commitment to their craft.

Environment and Customer Interaction

As a dedicated auto body and collision center, Custom Paint and Collision's facility is equipped to handle intricate repair processes, including bodywork, sanding, and painting. While no direct descriptions of the waiting area or specific shop layout are provided, the nature of their services implies a professional environment with specialized tools and paint booths necessary for achieving high-quality finishes. The focus on "Custom Paint" suggests a capability to handle various paint jobs, from standard color matching to potentially more specialized custom work.

Customer interaction at Custom Paint and Collision appears to be a mixed experience, as gleaned from the provided reviews. One customer highlights frequent "email correspondence" with "Corey" and quick answers to questions, indicating that the shop can be responsive and helpful in their communication channels. This proactive approach to addressing customer inquiries is a positive aspect, showing a willingness to keep clients informed. However, another detailed review points to challenges in communication regarding additional fees, specifically for pre- and post-scans, which created significant stress and inconvenience. This suggests that while communication channels exist, clarity and upfront disclosure of all potential charges are areas where the customer experience can vary. A well-managed shop strives for transparency from the outset, ensuring no surprises at the point of vehicle pickup.

Comprehensive Services and Offerings

As its name clearly suggests, Custom Paint and Collision specializes in two primary areas within the "Auto Repair Stations" category: **custom paintwork** and **collision repair**. Their services are geared towards restoring a vehicle's aesthetic appeal and structural integrity after an accident or to simply refresh its appearance. Key services likely include:

  • **Auto Body Repair:** Addressing damage to the vehicle's exterior, including dents, dings, and more significant structural damage from impacts. This is a core offering for a collision center.
  • **Collision Repair:** Comprehensive repair services following an accident, ranging from minor bumper fixes to extensive reconstruction. The successful repair of a "fender" and a "new front bumper and grill" after a "deer hit" demonstrates their capability in this area.
  • **Vehicle Painting:** This is a hallmark service, encompassing color matching, primer application, paint application, and finishing. The aim is to achieve a factory-quality or better finish. One customer mentioned "white primer showing through the black paint," which, while indicating a potential issue, still points to the service being offered. Conversely, another customer stated their Jeep "looked good as new," implying high-quality paint work in that instance. The "custom" aspect of their name suggests they might also handle unique or specialized paint jobs beyond standard factory colors.
  • **Paintless Dent Repair (PDR):** This service was mentioned as a separate charge, indicating their ability to remove minor dents without disturbing the original paint, which is a specialized skill.
  • **Pre- and Post-Scans:** As highlighted in a review, they conduct diagnostic scans on vehicles, particularly after a collision, to identify hidden damage or system issues that might not be visible externally. This is a modern and crucial step in comprehensive collision repair to ensure all electronic systems are functioning correctly post-repair.
  • **Insurance Claim Assistance:** Based on the customer interaction with State Farm, Custom Paint and Collision appears to work with insurance companies, handling estimates and claims processes, although clarity on covered versus out-of-pocket expenses is crucial.

Their focus is on restoring the vehicle's appearance and structural soundness, making them a go-to for post-accident recovery and aesthetic enhancements.

Distinguishing Features and Customer Perspective

Custom Paint and Collision presents a duality in its distinguishing features, as reflected in varied customer experiences. On one hand, the shop is praised for its **quality workmanship** and the care taken with vehicles. A customer noted, "Corey did an amazing job on my jeep; looked good as new!" and emphasized that the staff are "professional and detailed with their work," treating "customers vehicles like they are their own!" This suggests a commitment to high standards in the actual repair and painting process, aiming for results that satisfy the customer's aesthetic expectations.

Another positive feature is their **friendly and helpful staff**, as mentioned by one reviewer. Good interpersonal skills contribute significantly to a positive customer experience, making the interaction pleasant even during stressful times like vehicle repairs. The "more than fair" pricing mentioned by a satisfied customer also points to competitive value for their services.

However, the detailed critical review highlights a significant area for improvement: **transparency in billing and communication regarding non-covered expenses**. The attempt to "spring it on me when my car was ready for pickup" about additional charges for scans that were not fully covered by insurance created a stressful situation. This underscores the importance of clear, upfront communication about all potential fees and how they will be handled, especially when dealing with insurance claims. While the shop ultimately refunded the charge, the process caused considerable inconvenience and stress, leading to a strong negative recommendation from that customer. The issue of potentially uncleaned buffing compound and primer showing through paint also points to inconsistencies in the final quality check or attention to detail.

This suggests that while the shop has the technical capability to deliver "quality work," the overall customer journey can be significantly impacted by the clarity of financial disclosures and meticulousness in final delivery.

Promotional Information and Recommendations

While specific promotional offers are not provided in the information, Custom Paint and Collision relies on its reputation for quality work and positive customer experiences to attract business. The fact that the shop "came recommended from a couple colleagues" to one customer indicates that word-of-mouth referrals are a significant driver of their business. When their services are executed flawlessly, as with the Jeep repair, the customer satisfaction naturally leads to strong recommendations, such as "I would definitely recommend Custom Paint and Collision!"

Conversely, the critical review serves as a cautionary note, emphasizing the importance of diligence on the customer's part: "make sure they are up front about all additional fees that will be charged so there are no surprises at the end." This highlights that transparency, especially concerning insurance estimates and potential out-of-pocket costs, is a crucial "promotional" aspect that can either build or break customer trust.

For those in Forest City, IA, needing auto body and paint services, Custom Paint and Collision can be contacted at **(641) 581-3368** or **+1 641-581-3368**, or visited at **3240 US-69, Forest City, IA 50436, USA**. While they clearly possess the technical skill for quality repairs, potential customers are advised to engage in thorough pre-service discussions about all costs and insurance coverage to ensure a seamless and fully satisfactory experience.

Custom Paint and Collision Customer Reviews

I am very disappointed with the repair experience I had at Custom Paint & Collision after a recent deer hit. Especially since the shop came recommended from a couple colleagues of mine. The job itself was pretty basic - new front bumper and grill. Everything was fine until my car was ready for pickup. They called me to let me know my car was ready and that $75 would be due for a paintless dent repair that was separate from the deer hit. Then I received a second call before I had picked up that another $197 and change was due for amounts not covered by State Farm. Of this $197, $170 was for pre- and post-scans. Custom Paint & Collision tried to blame State Farm for not covering the scans. But the truth is, State Farm paid .5 hours each for the pre- and post-scans at the mechanical labor rate of $95/hour. So they received $95 in compensation for scans that really don’t take that long to complete. They wanted an additional $170 on top of this - presumably to cover the cost of owning and maintaining the scan tool? This is overhead expense and part of doing business - not something that should be covered by a customer or insurance company. Furthermore, they knew when I dropped my car off that this amount would not be covered - there was no need to try to spring it on me when my car was ready for pickup. Ultimately, they refunded the $197, but not until I was forced to take time out of my work day to meet with my insurance agent in person to try to get them to pay for something that I agree they should not have had to pay. This added a great deal of inconvenience and stress to a situation that was already inconvenient and stressful (hitting a deer). Despite all of this, I was not going to leave a review because they did ultimately refund my money. However, I noticed that there are two spots along the edge of the new bumper that were not fully covered with paint. There is white primer showing through the black paint. Photos included for reference. I would have hoped for a 5 star paint job after the 1 star customer service experience. I cannot in good faith recommend this shop to anyone. If you do use them, make sure they are up front about all additional fees that will be charged so there are no surprises at the end. Edit: I would like to highlight the following sentence from Custom Paint & Collision's response: "The cost of the pre and post scans were also on the original estimate that we wrote for you, and your insurance company did not have them on their first change request which your insurance tells me they notified you about when we accepted the change request." The insurance company revised the estimate and the shop accepted the revised estimate. It was fair of me to assume that they would not have accepted the revised estimate unless they were satisfied with the amount of compensation being offered. Otherwise, they should have clearly communicated that I would be on the hook for the difference. Instead, nothing was mentioned. It is really sad to see them try to shift blame to the customer. Also, I have not had the opportunity to determine whether or not the white marks are buffing compound. They have survived 3 trips through the car wash although I understand that stuff can stick pretty hard. Even if it is compound, the car should not have been returned to me without the compound thoroughly cleaned off.
