Basil's Auto Body Introduce

Basil's Auto Body, situated at 1645 Washington Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19146, USA, functions within the "Auto Repair Stations" category, specifically specializing in auto body and collision repair. This establishment aims to address vehicle damage ranging from minor dents to significant structural repairs, often after accidents or incidents like vehicle break-ins. They can be contacted via phone at (215) 735-2199 or mobile at +1 215-735-2199.

Environment and Operations

As an auto body shop, Basil's Auto Body would operate out of a facility equipped to handle significant vehicle repairs. This typically includes a spacious workshop with multiple bays for vehicles undergoing various stages of repair, from initial assessment and dismantling to bodywork, painting, and reassembly. Such an environment requires specialized tools for frame straightening, dent pulling, welding, and paint application. There would also be a customer reception area where individuals like Sean and Ricardo, mentioned in customer feedback, would interact with clients regarding estimates, repair progress, and vehicle pick-up. The nature of auto body work often means vehicles are kept for extended periods, especially for complex repairs. While specific details about the cleanliness or specific amenities of the waiting area aren't provided, a professional auto body shop generally strives to maintain an organized and functional space for both staff and customers.

Services Offered

Basil's Auto Body specializes in comprehensive auto body and collision repair services. Based on the customer reviews, their core offerings include:

  • Collision Repair: Addressing damage resulting from accidents, which can involve structural repairs, panel replacement, and realignment.

  • Window and Glass Replacement: As evidenced by a customer whose car was broken into and required window replacement, this is a key service.

  • Steering Column Repair/Replacement: Also highlighted in a review, this indicates their capability to work on critical vehicle components beyond just external body panels.

  • Paint and Finish Work: After body repairs, vehicles typically undergo paint matching and application to restore their original appearance. The mention of "white specs of compound all over my car" suggests this process is part of their service, though its execution can vary.

  • Interior Restoration: In cases of break-ins, interior damage might also need addressing. The presence of glue smell in the car suggests that interior components were also handled.

As an "Auto Repair Station" specializing in body work, they are expected to manage the entire repair process, from initial damage assessment and insurance coordination to final quality checks and vehicle handover.

Features and Customer Experiences

The features and customer experiences at Basil's Auto Body present a dichotomous view, with starkly contrasting feedback:

Positive Features and Experiences:
  • Quality Repair Work (in some instances): One customer reported picking up their car and finding that the team "did an amazing job," even sharing "Before and after photos," which indicates a high level of satisfaction with the repair outcome.

  • Helpful and Accommodating Staff: Sean and Ricardo, along with their team, were described as "extremely helpful and very accommodating." This suggests a commitment to customer service and a willingness to work with clients.

  • Responsiveness to Feedback: The positive review highlights that any feedback given during pick-up was "handled IMMEDIATELY," showcasing a proactive approach to customer satisfaction and problem resolution.

  • Strong Recommendation: The satisfied customer stated they "Definitely will recommend and will refer friends," indicating a high level of trust and confidence in the shop's services.

Concerns and Negative Experiences:
  • Questionable Repair Quality and Integrity: A severely negative review alleges that a "damaged steering column" was "reused" and "super glued together," leading to a persistent glue smell. This raises serious concerns about the integrity of repairs and safety.

  • Poor Quality Control: "White specs of compound all over my car, in between trim, on door handles, 2 dots of super glue on each new key" suggest a lack of meticulousness and poor post-repair cleaning.

  • Unsatisfactory Customer Service and Accountability: Despite calls to have the car looked at again, the customer was reportedly turned away twice with reasons like "it wasn’t a good day" and even given an appointment on a day the shop doesn't perform repairs. This indicates a significant breakdown in customer service and a lack of accountability for issues stemming from their work.

  • Legal Concerns: The customer explicitly states that the repair quality is "actually illegal" and threatens to involve a lawyer, underscoring the severity of their dissatisfaction.

  • Trust and Loyalty Erosion: The disgruntled customer, previously a loyal client, expressed extreme disappointment and stress, stating, "they lost me AFTER THIS EXPERIENCE." This highlights the critical impact of negative experiences on customer retention.

  • Recommendation Source Concerns: The negative review mentions being "recommended" by a towing company without having time to choose, suggesting potential issues with how referrals are handled or perceived.

Promotional Information and Considerations for Local Users

Basil's Auto Body's promotional strength would ideally stem from its positive customer experiences, highlighting its ability to perform "amazing job" and its helpful staff. Word-of-mouth referrals, as indicated by the positive review, are a powerful tool in this industry. However, the presence of deeply negative feedback, particularly allegations of unsafe or dishonest repair practices and poor customer handling, significantly complicates any promotional narrative. For local users in Philadelphia considering Basil's Auto Body for their vehicle's needs, it is imperative to weigh both positive and negative accounts. While some customers have clearly had excellent experiences, the concerns raised in the negative review about repair quality, accountability, and customer service issues warrant careful consideration. Prospective customers are strongly advised to contact Basil's Auto Body directly using their phone numbers, (215) 735-2199 or +1 215-735-2199, to discuss their specific repair needs, clarify processes, inquire about warranties on parts and labor, and perhaps seek multiple estimates and reviews before committing to services. It is also advisable to document all interactions and agreements to ensure clarity and recourse if issues arise.

INSURANCE SCAMMERS. This is without a doubt the worst shop, terrible customer service, terrible quality, my car got broken into and South Philly towing recommended this place and I didn’t have time to pick a place I actually wanted my car to go because it was parked in a place where cars had to move by 7am, the car took 4 weeks to repair the window and steering column, upon return, they reused the damaged steering column, super glued together so there is always a glue smell in my car, there are white specs of compound all over my car, in between trim, on door handles, 2 dots of super glue on each new key they gave me, called to have my car looked at again, drove in they told me it wasn’t a good day and to bring it back another time, this HAPPENED 2 TIMES TO ME, a worker made my appointment for a Saturday when they don’t even repair cars, so they made me waste money on calling and Uber just to drive home in my own car, this will be my 4th visit back to have them correctly fix my car or I’m going to take it up another level and because how you repaired my car is actually illegal. And the lack of care you take to fix an issue that YOUR SHOP CAUSED is ridiculous… DO NOT COME TO THIS TERRIBLE SHOP.

These guys are insurance scammers and will try to get you to report things not a part of the initial reported damage so they can get more money. The owner texted me asking me to change the insurance claim so that I could get more money covered, clear insurance fraud. And he proceeded to keep calling and texting. Additionally lied to my insurance trying to claim extra damage even after I told him no. So much so my insurance called twice to verify if I was telling the truth. He got an attitude and said he would not let the vehicle get picked up by insurance unless he got paid for the time the vehicle was in the shop, yet he delayed giving us a quote on the repairs until we changed the insurance claim.

Must say the communication with the owner was terrible. One word answers. Never calls back. But, on to the guys in the shop Ricky Riccardo is the man he did an excellent job on my 2016 Ford focus. I would use again and recommend. If it wasn't for the lack of communication I would give 5 star rating. So, have to give a 4.
