Badass Tents (BA Tents) - Camping Store Poway Introduce

Badass Tents (BA Tents) - Camping Store Poway stands as a prominent and innovative hub for outdoor enthusiasts, particularly those deeply invested in the growing world of overlanding and vehicle-based camping. While the name "Auto Repair Stations" might initially suggest a focus purely on vehicle maintenance, in the context of Badass Tents, it highlights their specialized niche within the automotive accessory market, providing goods that directly enhance and integrate with vehicles for outdoor expeditions. This establishment is not your typical auto repair shop, but rather a specialized retailer and manufacturer of high-performance rooftop tents and related overlanding accessories, directly catering to vehicle owners looking to transform their rigs into mobile campsites.

The core philosophy at Badass Tents revolves around engineering and manufacturing class-leading rooftop tents that prioritize functionality, durability, and a seamless integration with a wide range of vehicles. Unlike many generic "camping stores" that offer a broad spectrum of camping equipment, BA Tents distinguishes itself by specializing in robust, hard-shell rooftop tents designed for the rigors of overland travel. Their headquarters are located at 12925 Brookprinter Place, Suite 200, Poway, CA 92064, serving as a central point for their operations and customer interactions.

Environment:
While Badass Tents doesn't operate as a traditional retail storefront with extensive displays of various camping items, their operational environment is rooted in innovation and precision manufacturing. Their corporate office in Poway serves as the hub for their in-house engineering and manufacturing teams. This environment is characterized by a strong focus on quality control and product development, drawing on over 50 years of plastic and manufacturing experience from their sister company, Lormac Plastics, founded in 1966. This extensive background in materials and production allows them to develop proprietary coextruded outer shells for their tents, ensuring high-gloss finishes, exceptional durability, and superior UV protection. Furthermore, their connection to HotbodiesRacing.com, with over 20 years of motorcycle racing experience, informs their aerodynamic designs and "Go Fast, Look Fast" aesthetic, bringing a unique blend of performance and style to their outdoor gear. The overall environment, though not a consumer-facing retail space in the conventional sense, is one of technical expertise and a deep understanding of product performance in demanding conditions.

Services:
Badass Tents offers a specialized suite of services centered around their flagship rooftop tents and associated accessories. Their primary service involves the design, engineering, and manufacturing of innovative rooftop tents, ensuring they are lightweight, quick to set up, and universally compatible with most roof racks and crossbars. They provide comprehensive support through their customer service team, addressing product inquiries and offering assistance. A significant aspect of their service is the provision of detailed installation guides, making the setup process straightforward for first-time users. They also back their products with a robust 3-year limited warranty, covering manufacturing defects and workmanship issues, providing peace of mind to their customers. Beyond the direct sale of tents, they offer a range of essential accessories such as universal tent mounting brackets, telescoping ladders, and other overlanding gear, demonstrating a commitment to a complete solution for vehicle-based adventurers. Their customer-centric approach is also evident in their financing options, making their products more accessible through services like Affirm™ financing, potentially with 0% APR.

Features:
Badass Tents' products are distinguished by a number of cutting-edge features that set them apart in the rooftop tent market. Their tents, such as the "Rugged," "Packout," and "Recon" models, are renowned for being among the lightest and thinnest hardtop rooftop tents available. For instance, the PACKOUT™ clamshell tent weighs as little as 90 lbs and stands just 3 inches tall, minimizing wind resistance and allowing vehicles to fit into residential garages without removing the tent. This low-profile design is a hallmark of their engineering. A patented moonroof, a world-first on a removable rooftop tent, offers unparalleled views of the stars or sunrise, enhancing the camping experience. This moonroof utilizes optics-grade transparency and impact-resistant dark smoke panels, designed to outlast the life of the vehicle.

The tents feature advanced fabrics, including 400D Nylon Oxford cloth with three times the industry standard UV and waterproofing. Large zip-open windows with fine micro-weave mesh ensure excellent airflow while keeping out even the smallest insects. Military-grade nylon webbing, rated for a breaking strength of 1200 lbs, provides exceptional durability. Self-repairing, dirt- and debris-resistant zippers with branded pulls ensure longevity and ease of use. The tents are supported by American-sourced 5051 aluminum alloy frames, extruded to their specifications, providing a strong yet lightweight structure capable of supporting up to a 500lb payload. The mattress pads are 100% recycled, thermal regulating, and provide comfort and support. Quick setup times, often under a minute, are a key convenience factor, enabled by gas shock strut arms that allow for rapid deployment and structural integrity even in windy conditions. Many of their products boast a "Made in the USA" designation, highlighting their commitment to domestic manufacturing and quality control.

Promotional Information:
Badass Tents frequently engages in promotions and offers to enhance value for its customers. While specific, ongoing promotions can vary, past and typical offerings include discounts and special events. For example, previous promotions have included specific coupon codes, such as "MEMORIAL20" for a 20% discount. They also participate in sales events throughout the year, such as "Tax Season Savings Event" and holiday-themed sales like "St. Patrick's Day Sale." To further engage their community, Badass Tents has hosted photo contests, encouraging customers to share their outdoor adventures featuring BA Tents products, with prizes for winners. They actively utilize social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube to announce new products, showcase customer experiences, and promote current deals. Badass Tents also collaborates with overland gear retailers like Truck Brigade, who may offer their own bundled deals or special pricing on BA Tents products. In essence, Badass Tents (BA Tents) - Camping Store Poway, while categorized under "Auto Repair Stations" due to its automotive-centric product, is a highly specialized vendor of premium rooftop tents and overlanding equipment. Badass Tents (BA Tents) - Camping Store Poway Customer Reviews

Bought the clamshell version last year and took a long trip with it. Sits on a 2016 4Runner. Spent about 12 nights out of 30 in a hotel room along the way to break up the trip so I basically paid for the tent during that time having spent more days in it. Loved every minute. Was in a huge thunderstorm in Texas and high winds all around me thought I was going to be blown away but the tent held up unlike my neighboring ground tent campers that got drenched and had to find refuge in their cars. Easy to pop up and take down for this 64 year old. Got lotsa looks and asks to go up and look inside. Stayed at KOA campgrounds and since on wheels could stay at the nicer pull in locations used by trailers. Recommend purchasing a wind shield that fits just under the front part of tent between the top of car and bottom of tent. Found it on Amazon. Reduces wind sound and makes it more aerodynamic. As an SUV owner I’m always cautious in high winds and turns careful to use recommended speed warnings. Love this tent and the freedom to go anywhere!

This is a great roof rack. You can run just the back clam shell portion (which looks great) or add the full rack (easier than you'd think to install) and still take both front and rear roof panels off! It's light weight, but seems strong and secure. I went with the silver crossbars to help show off my GearShade mesh, but I personally really like the 2 tone combo against the MIC roof panels when on. Installation : Super easy! I did it by myself in maybe 1 hour and a few beer breaks. I started with the back clam shell portion and just left it for a week like that. Everyone loved it. I add the front portion because... Well that's why I got the full rack. It was much easier to install than I expected. The "how to" videos on the product page was straight forward, and was almost obvious as to what to do next. All parts were labeled and I did have 1 question, called and support answered my questions and seem genuinely eager to help and took notes of my questions to address in future install instructions. It was also awesome to have the Bronco tool kit be the only tools I needed. . Only Cons... Shipping for this took 3 extra days... Bummer as I'm literally less than 2 hours away. But can't blame BadAss for this... FedEx dropped the ball. Also, just for "insurance" I'd have liked to have at least 1-2 extra bolts in each of the 3 (?) sizes... Just in case I dropped or lost one. Other than that. I can't think of any negatives. Great company and love the other accessories they are adding for the Bronco

If I could give more stars for their hardtop short roof rack I would. Amazing quality super easy to install. I get a lot of complements a great company to work with. Can’t wait for more Bronco products!

I purchased the Bronco roof rack and the RECON pop-up tent back in September 2023. I was a recent Bronco owner and I had an overlanding trip coming up and wanted a roof top tent fast - the RECON was on sale and was advertised as shipping in several days. It did not ship in several days (about two weeks) and I missed the trip. Not a big deal, things happen. When the rack arrived first I installed it. Easy enough to install but installation instructions are very minimal (single sheet of paper) and were printed at such a low resolution that they were unreadable. Same experience with the tent; be sure to watch the videos on their page. When the tent arrived I discovered it was not a good fit for me. The rugged clamshell is very flimsy and thin, bending significantly when placed under any strain. It wraps all the way around the heavier components and makes it very hard to maneuver the tent. It also has to be stored completely flat when not on the vehicle or else the shell will snap. Shame on me for not doing my research... I pulled the trigger too quickly in my haste to get set up for that initial trip. That's on me. I contacted Badass Tents to see if they would be willing to swap it out. It was still in the packaging and I was willing to pay shipping to get it back to them as it was my mistake. This is when they revealed that they wanted me to pay double shipping - grand total of over $900 - to get another tent. They wanted to claw back the original shipping cost that was rolled into the price of the original purchase and then have me pay for another round of shipping. I wound up selling the damn thing on facebook marketplace at a steep loss and with a lot of pain getting it on top of other peoples vehicles over several weekends. Tip - it will not fit on somevehicles due to the way the shell wraps around and how the latches are way up under the shell. Buyer beware. It's also less "memory foam" and more "packing foam" on the interior, that gave me a black eye with several prospective buyers. The rack itself was just removed from the Bronco as well. Several days after I installed it the wind shield started pulling up at the sides. They intend for you to use 3M adhesive tape to glue the shield down to the front of Bronco, but there is no curve on the shield to match the contours of the vehicle so it has constant tension at the edges. Other manufacturers account for this curve in their design or use a metal plate that is anchored along the sides as well as the top. BA ships the wind shield with the adhesive tape already applied to the wind shield... and that is where the adhesive separated after a day of highway driving. Not a great look but not one I felt like fighting after my other experiences. Leaving three stars as they were responsive but this was a colossal waste of money and a painful experience.

Dusty from Badass tents contacted me and assured me they stand by their products and offered to have the rusting components re powder coated. After disassembling the rack and bringing the effected pieces to a powder coater here in NJ the rack is reassembled and back on the Bronco. Unfortunate experience and time consuming but they did work to correct the issues. Thank you Dusty Update Unfortunately, while a nice design and sturdy the finishes are not consistent and sections are rusting, see picture... Disappointing. When I reached out to them they said the new ones are different and should be better... Original Review I did a lot of research when looking for the right roof rack for our Bronco and this by far is the best design on the market. I was impressed by the engineering of the product and how sturdy it is once it is installed. It truly is BA!
