I’m mechanically inclined when it comes to vehicles. I had worked on my truck ever since owning it, however I don’t know much about transmission work.. so I dropped it off here for an inspection and estimate. I did it with no appointment or notice on the guy.. that being said, you CANT just unexpectedly drop a vehicle off or drop one on him with no appointment and notice then be upset that it takes awhile to work on your vehicle (all pun towards previous reviews). You have to wait your turn when you come unexpected and there’s 10 people that came before you. BUT the guy does really exceptional work. He went above and beyond to get me took care of and did things I didn’t even ask to do just to be a good guy. Just talk to him, let him know what’s up and etc.

I have nothing but positive things to say about this place. Clayton, the owner and gentleman that worked on my dad’s truck, went above and beyond expectations. He had his flywheel fixed in no time. He also went out of his way to do other things that isn’t in his job description and for that, I’m extremely appreciative and impressed. I highly recommend this place.

Owner: Clayton Expertise: Drive Train (Transmission to axle) Skill Level: Excellent Subject Knowledge: Excellent Ability to diagnose your cars problem: Excellent Honesty: Excellent Customer Service: Excellent Pricing: Fair (I had called others for comparisons) We had been in the Smoky's for a week. Developed a vibration and clanking noise when shifting to reverse or drive. Had a Gatlinburg "mechanic" tell me it was Transmission trouble and offered a re build or new installation. Started home worried, but stopped by Affordable Transmissions because it was on our route back to Bama. Clayton drove our Yukon along with inspecting the drive train and diagnosed a front U-joint failure. He told me he could fix it in 2 hours. He drove us to a place to eat to wait. He had us back on the road in 2 hours! Took a check too! Roll Tide! (Love the Vols too). :)

I had my Honda civic with Clayton for nearly a month. He never got to working on it and throughout my time I was unable to ever reach him to get a progress report. Coming from a family with numerous small business owners I can sincerely say that Clayton has no idea how to run a business. Coming up on the 3 1/2 week mark of my experience with Affordable Transmissions, I went by the shop to try and connect with Clayton and he immediately became very rude and nasty. I wanted to get my keys and take my car elsewhere and he didn’t seem to like this. His words were “I wasn’t holding your car hostage.” Well Clayton you really were. If I’d wanted to get my car back in the last week and a half I wouldn’t have been able to because I can’t reach you to get my keys. In my final moments at affordable transmissions I was physically threatened, verbally harassed, and generally just treated rudely. Overall I would never recommend Affordable transmissions even to my worst enemy.

EDIT: The owner, Clayton, showed up at my brother's place of work If you value your time then don't use this shop. Took my car in a month ago for the transmission. The owner said the car would be done in a week, but then kept pushing it back week after week. He'd either make up an excuse or just not answer his phone calls even if you left a message. Don't bother showing up at the shop either because he's rarely there. Finally today I saw he was at the shop and when I went to get my car to take it to another shop he was extremely rude. He harassed my teenage brother and then threatened to charge us a $65 "lot fee" for every day it was there. Even though he promised the car to be fixed several times and never followed through. Also left the car unlocked on his lot. Just a bad experience overall.
