Environment and Atmosphere

As an auto repair shop, the environment at 13 and Crooks Auto Repair is that of a functional garage designed to accommodate vehicle servicing. While specific details about a customer waiting area or lounge are not extensively mentioned in the provided information, the focus is on the mechanics and their ability to address vehicle issues. The atmosphere can be perceived differently by various customers, ranging from highly positive experiences highlighting friendly and caring staff to others experiencing communication or service discrepancies. The presence of new staff members, such as the mechanic Ameer, seems to be a significant factor in shaping recent customer perceptions, suggesting a dynamic environment.

Comprehensive Services

13 and Crooks Auto Repair provides a range of essential automotive services. Based on available information, their core offerings within the Auto Repair Station category include:

  • Tire Repair and Service: This includes fixing punctures, as indicated by a customer review. They also perform tire installations, mounting, balancing, and TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) resets. It's noted that they top off tire pressures as part of their service.

  • Brakes and Mufflers: They specialize in brake repair and muffler services, which are critical for vehicle safety and performance.

  • Radiator Work: The shop also handles radiator repairs, essential for engine cooling and overall vehicle health.

  • General Auto Repair and Maintenance: Beyond specific specializations, they are equipped to handle a variety of general automotive repairs. This would typically include routine maintenance checks, fluid services, and addressing various mechanical issues that arise in a vehicle.

  • Oil Changes: Customers have mentioned utilizing their services for routine oil changes, often praising the quick and efficient nature of this service.

Key Features and Customer Experience

Customer experiences with 13 and Crooks Auto Repair present a nuanced picture. Several key features and aspects of their customer service stand out:

  • Mechanic Ameer: A recent and very positive review specifically highlights a new mechanic named Ameer, describing him as "AMAZING" and someone who "actually cares to fix your car and he does an amazing job." This suggests a strong positive impact from individual staff members on customer satisfaction and the overall quality of service.

  • Timely Service: Some positive feedback mentions quick service and same-day appointments, particularly for routine tasks like oil changes, indicating efficiency in certain areas.

  • Honesty and Communication: While some reviews praise the staff for being "very open and honest about the cost" and providing options, other feedback indicates potential issues with communication and transparency, as seen in the tire pressure incident.

However, it's crucial to acknowledge the challenges highlighted in customer reviews. The most significant concern raised pertains to a dangerous over-inflation of tires after a repair. A customer reported that after a tire repair, all their tires were inflated to 55-59 psi, despite OEM recommendations and maximum ratings being around 44 psi. This incident led to the vehicle not handling correctly and created a "very dangerous situation" for a planned long trip. This feedback underscores the importance of technicians adhering to manufacturer specifications and communicating clearly with customers about any deviations, especially concerning safety-critical components like tires. The discrepancy between what was told (40 psi) and what was actually done (55-59 psi) also points to a potential issue with accuracy or communication within the service process.

Another customer, reviewing prior to the positive mention of Ameer, also faced issues with gas leaking after a repair, indicating a need for a second visit and additional hassle, despite an initial payment. This mixed feedback suggests that while the shop may strive for excellent service, consistency in every aspect of repair and adherence to safety standards could be areas of focus.

Promotional Information and Value Proposition

While specific, current promotional offers are not detailed in the provided information, the underlying value proposition of 13 and Crooks Auto Repair, typical for an Auto Repair Station, would likely include:

  • Comprehensive Repair Capabilities: Their ability to handle various repairs, from tire issues to brakes, mufflers, and radiators, positions them as a convenient, one-stop shop for common automotive needs.

  • Local and Convenient: Being a neighborhood auto repair shop, they offer convenience for local residents in Royal Oak, often providing quick turnaround times for common services.

  • Focus on Customer Satisfaction (with varied experiences): The presence of highly praised mechanics like Ameer indicates an effort to provide excellent customer service and reliable repairs, which can be a significant draw for customers seeking trustworthy technicians.

  • Competitive Pricing: While not explicitly stated as a constant promotion, the general nature of an independent auto repair station often involves offering prices that are competitive with or lower than dealership rates, appealing to budget-conscious consumers.

For potential customers, it is advisable to consider the recent positive sentiment around new staff members and inquire about their specific needs. It's always a good practice to communicate clearly about expected tire pressures and to double-check such critical details, especially before long journeys. The presence of experienced and dedicated mechanics is a strong asset for any auto repair station, and 13 and Crooks Auto Repair appears to benefit from such individuals.

13 and Crooks Auto Repair Customer Reviews

Took my wife’s vehicle in to have a nail in the tire repaired. I was told that they topped off all my tires to 40 psi and that it was okay to do that even though I questioned why they did that. I had no tires that were below 35 psi. After driving away the car was not handling right. My wife was leaving for a long trip so I checked the tire pressures and found they inflated all the tires to 55-59 psi. The tires are OEM and rated for 44 psi max. This created a very dangerous situation when the vehicle was about to be driven nearly 250 miles in the highway.

BEWARE! These people are scam artists. I had a grinding noise coming from my left rear tire. I took it here, and they quoted me $600+ for new front break pads, oil change, and fluid top-offs. Thing is, I just had my oil changed and my fluids topped off. Afterward, I took the car to another shop where they said it didn’t need ANY work done (70% life in front breaks and 90% life on back break pads). It just had rust on left rear rotor. They told me it should resolve with time, and it did. The woman who owns this place has disgraceful business practices.

My car engine was failing and I couldn't drive it any further so bringing my car to 13 and crooks was a happy coincidence. JR is a very honest mechanic and took great care of my car and did the work for a very good price. They even gave me a cookie as I was cashing out. I'll be going here for all of my auto repair work in the future. Good honest mechanics are hard to find!
