Services Offered

The Conoco Gas Station at 3635 Simpson Ferry Rd provides a range of fuel options and convenience services typical of a modern gas station, with one notable specialty.

  • Gasoline: Conoco offers various grades of gasoline, which typically include:

    • Regular Unleaded Gasoline: The standard fuel option for most vehicles. Conoco fuels are advertised to have more detergent additive than EPA minimums and often exceed TOP TIER® standards.

    • Midgrade Unleaded Gasoline: An intermediate octane level.

    • Premium Unleaded Gasoline: Higher octane fuel for performance vehicles or those requiring premium.

  • Ethanol-Free Gasoline: A significant highlight mentioned by a customer review is the availability of ethanol-free gas. This is a crucial offering for owners of classic cars, small engines (lawnmowers, motorcycles, boats), and some performance vehicles where ethanol can cause issues or is simply undesirable. This specialized fuel sets it apart from many standard gas stations.

  • Diesel Fuel: Available for diesel-powered vehicles, catering to a wider range of customers.

  • Convenience Store: The station includes a convenience store where customers can purchase a variety of items such as snacks, beverages, coffee, and potentially other quick-grab necessities.

  • Restrooms: Public restrooms are available for customer use.

  • Payment at the Pump: Pumps are equipped to accept major credit/debit cards, and mobile payment options are generally supported through the Fuel Forward® app (Conoco's mobile app).

Features / Highlights

The Conoco Gas Station on Simpson Ferry Road in Camp Hill presents a mixed bag of features, with some aspects being highly valued by customers and others drawing significant concern.

  • Availability of Ethanol-Free Gas: This is a major highlight, explicitly praised by a customer. For a specific segment of the driving population in Pennsylvania who seek to avoid ethanol in their fuel for various reasons (e.g., older vehicles, lawn equipment), this offering is a significant and valuable feature that differentiates this Conoco station from many others.

  • Quality Conoco Fuels: Conoco is part of the Phillips 66 family of brands, known for providing TOP TIER® Detergent Gasoline. This means their fuels contain higher levels of detergent additives than the EPA minimum, which helps to keep engines clean and can contribute to better performance and fuel economy.

  • Customer Service Concerns: A significant and recurring concern from customer reviews is related to the overall customer service experience inside the store. One detailed review highlights an instance of highly rude and demeaning behavior from a cashier and their associate, expressing strong dissatisfaction with the lack of service and respect. This indicates a potential inconsistency in the level of friendliness and professionalism customers might encounter.

  • Inconsistent Operating Hours: Another notable feature, though a negative one for some customers, is the variability in operating hours. A reviewer pointed out that while online hours stated closing at 10 PM, a handwritten sign indicated an earlier closing time, leading to inconvenience. This inconsistency can be frustrating for those relying on specific hours of operation.

  • Standard Convenience Offerings: While not explicitly detailed, the presence of a convenience store allows for quick stops to grab snacks, drinks, and other basic necessities alongside fueling.

Conclusion: Why This Place Is Suitable for Locals

For residents of Camp Hill, PA, and those regularly traveling along Simpson Ferry Road, the Conoco Gas Station at 3635 Simpson Ferry Rd presents a set of distinct features that make it a suitable, albeit with some caveats, option for their fueling and convenience needs.

A significant draw, particularly for a niche but important segment of the local driving population, is the availability of ethanol-free gasoline. This specialized fuel is a major benefit for owners of classic cars, motorcycles, and small outdoor power equipment who specifically seek to avoid ethanol, making this Conoco a go-to destination for those particular needs. This alone makes it suitable for a specific group of locals.

Furthermore, its location on Simpson Ferry Road provides practical accessibility for daily commutes and errands within Camp Hill and neighboring communities. The presence of a convenience store also allows for quick grab-and-go items, streamlining errands for busy individuals.

However, it's crucial for local users to be aware of the reported inconsistencies in operating hours and, more importantly, the concerning customer service experience detailed in reviews. While the station offers a valuable product like ethanol-free gas, the negative feedback regarding staff demeanor points to a potential area of concern for the overall in-store experience. Locals might need to set expectations accordingly for interactions with staff and verify hours, particularly for evening visits.

Despite these operational and service challenges, the opportunity to participate in Conoco's loyalty programs like KickBack® Rewards and the Fuel Forward® App allows for tangible savings on fuel, which can be a significant draw for cost-conscious Pennsylvanians. In summary, for Camp Hill residents prioritizing ethanol-free fuel and potential loyalty savings, who are also prepared for possible variations in service or hours, the Conoco on Simpson Ferry Road remains a viable and uniquely positioned local fuel stop.

Conoco Customer Reviews

Ethanol free gas is great! -2 stars because I’ve went there twice and published hours say they are open until 10pm and I get there to a handwritten sign that says closing at 9 tonight. Change your hours online if you always close early.

I normally stop at this location on my way home as it’s close and tonight was a mistake!!!! As I stopped got my drink and I was using lotto machine I was waiting for my ticket to cash out and this guy comes in behind me and says “I don’t got all night!” I’m like excuse me and he says same thing, so I of course said then you should’ve came before me. I hadn’t been aware this was the cashiers best friend and when I finished I went to register to pay for my drink and I say can you cash this out( I manager a cstore so I know not all have that much cash at a time) cashier says well I have no idea when you think you’re doing smh seriously are we now hiring the rudest people?? What happened to service? Is it because I wasn’t fast enough for his buddy to get his lotto or that I didn’t allow his buddy to talk to me in a demeaning manner??? I know if I ever catch my employees even trying this rudeness they will be looking for a change in tone or another place to work!! I know how competitive stations are esp right now with not making much on gas but to start being rude to inside customers might as well just shut down now! I’m highly offended and quite aggravated that an employee sitting his whole entire shift and being paid for it nonetheless thinks it’s okay to just be rude to the person paying their salaries! Thank you for at least letting me speak without being demeaned at least…

My husband and I stopped in with our son to get a few things we needed. We followed a customer in that was not wearing a mask. No big deal, I don't care about that. There was a customer at the register when all four of us entered including no mask guy. We are all greeted with, "THERE'S ONLY ONE AT A TIME!! IT'S POSTED!!". All four of us moved to the exit while asking where this is posted. The rude clerk points to the counter where she is standing and says outside somewhere. How is anyone gonna read the posting on the counter without coming in then going to the counter?? The posting outside was not readable as the door had been propped open and was now facing the exterior windows. The biggest problem is the way this clerk spoke to three adults and a child. Her behavior was completely uncalled for.

They have ethanol-free gas and they don't have ridiculous hours like the other Gulf on Carlisle Pike. Friendly, helpful employees and napkins and water in the windshield washer buckets.

Never an issue here. Just a necessity in filling up your vehicle. I preferred this station over many others. I think it depends on you route you travel. I liked Gulf gas. I tried most. Some did not work well in my vehicles. Never had an issue here.
