Rutter's Car Wash, located within the larger Rutter's Farm Store complex in New Cumberland, offers a convenient option for locals looking to keep their cars looking their best.

Rutter's is a well-known name across Pennsylvania for its convenience stores and fuel stations, and many of their locations, including the one in New Cumberland, extend their services to include car washes. This article will provide an overview of Rutter's Car Wash at 368 Lewisberry Road, focusing on its accessibility, the types of washing services available, and what local users can expect. Our aim is to provide factual and informative details to help you decide if this Rutter's location is the right choice for your car cleaning needs in the New Cumberland area.

Location and Accessibility

Rutter's Car Wash is situated at 368 Lewisberry Rd, New Cumberland, PA 17070, USA. This location is particularly advantageous as it is part of a larger Rutter's Farm Store, a prominent convenience store and fuel station. Its placement on Lewisberry Road means it's easily accessible from various parts of New Cumberland and the surrounding communities, including those utilizing I-83 (Exit 39-A).

The integration of the car wash with a Rutter's convenience store enhances its accessibility. Drivers can easily combine their car wash with other errands, such as fueling up their vehicle, grabbing a snack, or picking up essentials from the store. This multi-purpose stop saves valuable time for busy Pennsylvanians. For residents in New Cumberland, the convenience of having a car wash at a familiar and accessible Rutter's location is a significant benefit. The ease of access from local roads and major highways makes Rutter's Car Wash a practical and readily available option for routine vehicle maintenance in the area.

Services Offered

Rutter's Car Wash generally offers common car wash options, primarily focusing on automated systems and potentially self-service bays, designed for efficiency and convenience.

  • Touchless Automatic Car Wash:

This is a key offering at many Rutter's locations, including this one. A touchless wash uses high-pressure water jets and cleaning solutions to clean the vehicle without physical contact from brushes or cloths, aiming to minimize the risk of scratches. Pricing for these washes can vary between Rutter's locations, with some basic touchless washes costing around $8 to $10, as noted by customer feedback. It's important to be aware that some users have noted that the touchless wash "does not do a great job on the lower half of the car," suggesting that it may be more effective for overall surface cleaning rather than tackling heavy grime on lower panels.

  • Self-Service Wash Bays (Potential):

While customer reviews specifically mention issues with payment machines for self-service, indicating these bays exist, concrete details on their specific offerings (e.g., pre-soak, soap, wax, rinse functions) are not provided. Self-service bays allow users to manually wash their vehicles with provided equipment, offering more control over the cleaning process. However, some customers have experienced issues with the functionality of sprayers and soap dispensing in these bays, making for a less than ideal experience.

Given that Rutter's is primarily a convenience store chain, the car wash services are typically designed for quick and efficient use. While they aim to provide a convenient cleaning solution, prospective users should consider the feedback regarding potential issues with equipment functionality and cleaning effectiveness to manage their expectations.

Features / Highlights

Rutter's Car Wash, as part of the larger Rutter's Farm Store establishment in New Cumberland, PA, offers several features that contribute to its convenience for local customers.

  • Convenient Location within a Rutter's Farm Store: A major highlight is its integration with a Rutter's convenience store and fuel station. This allows customers to combine multiple errands in one stop – getting gas, grabbing a snack, and washing their car. This synergy offers a high degree of convenience for busy individuals.
  • Touchless Automatic Wash Option: The availability of a touchless automatic car wash appeals to those who prefer a quick, hands-off approach to cleaning their vehicle. The touchless system is often preferred by car owners who are concerned about potential scratches from brushes in traditional automatic washes.
  • Potential 24-Hour Access: Many Rutter's locations operate 24 hours a day, suggesting the car wash facilities might also be available around the clock. If so, this provides significant flexibility for customers to wash their cars at any time, which is a major convenience for those with unusual schedules. (Note: While Rutter's stores are generally 24-hour, specific car wash hours should be verified on-site.)

However, it is crucial to address the challenges highlighted in customer reviews, which impact the perceived highlights:

  • Equipment Functionality Concerns: Several reviews mention broken payment machines (card and quarter slots), broken sprayers for water and soap, and issues with the car wash's effectiveness. These functional issues significantly detract from the user experience and the overall reliability of the services.
  • Inconsistent Cleaning Performance: Feedback indicates that the touchless wash may not adequately clean the lower half of vehicles, and that the quality can vary even between different Rutter's locations, despite differing prices for the same basic wash.
  • Customer Service Interactions: One review noted unhelpful or rude staff when attempting to resolve payment issues, which can negatively impact the overall experience.

While the concept of convenience and touchless washing are intended features, the recurring issues with equipment and service, as reported by customers, are important considerations for prospective users.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals

The availability of a touchless automatic wash provides an option for those who prefer a fast, hands-off method of cleaning their car's exterior, especially for regular light washes between more thorough cleanings. For drivers in Pennsylvania, where road conditions can quickly accumulate dirt, a readily accessible automatic wash can be a convenient solution for maintaining a basic level of cleanliness. The potential for 24-hour operation, typical of many Rutter's locations, also adds a layer of flexibility for those with unconventional schedules.

However, it's crucial for locals to be aware of the consistent customer feedback regarding functional issues with payment machines and washing equipment (e.g., broken sprayers, ineffective soap dispensing), as well as concerns about the overall cleaning efficacy of the touchless wash on the lower half of vehicles. While the convenience factor is high, experiences with the quality and reliability of the wash itself appear to be mixed.

Ultimately, for New Cumberland residents who prioritize location convenience and the ability to multitask their errands, Rutter's Car Wash can serve as a viable option for basic car cleaning. Those seeking a deeper, more reliable wash, or who might need consistent equipment functionality, should manage their expectations and consider the reported experiences of other local users.

Rutter's Car Wash Customer Reviews

Card payment machine broken. Attempted to use cash and quarters, but found the quarter slot to be broken as well, with multiple quarters packed in it. Ran inside to get cash in exchange for my quarters, and cashier was slow, lazy, and rude. Finally got a manager to exchange quarters for dollar bills, only to get the crappiest car wash ever due to broken sprayers for the water and soap. $10 wasted. I feel like I would have been better off driving my truck into the Susquehanna and walking home.

Noticed that the cheapest, most basic, Touchless wash option varies prices by location. Price was $8 at one location and $10 at another. The same wash for $8 bucks was actually better than the higher one. Also does not do a great job on the lower half of the car...
