The worst transmission shop hands down. This is not Well Built Transmissions anymore, so they are scamming you. The original owner of the shop retired due to health issues. His partner Cliff and mechanic Chris use this name because the original owner had great service and tons of clients. Cliff, Co-Owner of Well Built Transmissions, took in my transmission, rebuilt the pump, fixed the torque converter,, and replaced all seals. The car kept going into a fail safe mode, wouldn't shift until high about 4000 rpm and the transmission kept over heating. They claimed it wasn't anything they did or touched and was an electrical problem. Paid in full (my mistake) they refused to help me because Well Built was no longer in service or refund me so I can find another shop to do the work. Mind you, the same mechanics are still using the name, and operating there. I took my transmission to Oceanside Transmission, and lone behold the problem was found with in a few hours. Torque converter was slipping, and seals were damaged or not put on properly causing an internal leak. Thus, causing the car not to shift when supposed to, and overheating. DO NOT USE THESE SCAM ARTISTS. They are no longer Well Built Transmissions.

It was my first time experiencing transmission problems and I was very worried that the work I needed done was going to be more than I could afford. The mechanics at Well Built were a breath of fresh air, they explained everything I needed done and their prices were amazing. They were efficient and fast and I'm happy to say my car is running great! Thanks guys!

I went to see Johnny at well built Transmissions Oceanside because I had a strange whining noise that I suspected was coming from the transmission. Johnny took my car in the morning and gave me clear expectations on when I would hear from him. He called me in the afternoon and let me know that the problem I was having was not my transmission but rather a squeaky belt tensioner. He could have easily looked for a way to charged me big money for a transmission. But instead he gave me an honest and quick assessment. Didn't even charge me for the diagnostic. This is an honest and knowledgeable shop. I will be bringing my future business here because of this great experience. Highly recommended.

This place goes over beyond to help you with exactly what you need for your vehicle! They are beyond trust worthy because if they can't do what you need they will do what they can to refer you to other trust worthy mechanic! It is unreal how great they are and how you can rest assure your vehicle will get it done right.

I took my Ford C6 transmission to Well Built based on a mechanic friends recommendation. My transmissions performance was going down hill quickly. Being the DIY type, I removed and took the transmission to them to reduce the turn around time. We talked about the vehicle and the performance goals of the intended use. They took all my requests, explained the process, and gave an estimate on cost and delivery date. Upon initial teardown I was contacted to inform me of the overall condition, not so good. I needed a new case, a new valve body, torque convertor, and direct drum. I authorized the repairs and received the transmission in a total of two weeks. The installation was straight forward and was back in and running. Now some history, this is going into a mildly built truck with a 460 big block. A safe HP/TQ estimate is 520/550. I drive the truck occasionally to putt around town. This is not a daily driver. I drove the truck from Escondido to Temecula twice due to a move. After 160 miles or so and a year after rebuild, the transmission started slipping in 2nd. Not so much that it was a straight failure but it was noticeable. I called the shop to inquire of any adjustments or checks I could do. The intermediate band is an external adjustment that is quick and simple. The adjustment was made, no improvement. I talked with Gary to bring the truck in for the shop to diagnose any installation issues, linkages or vacuum leaks. I arrived at shop at the agreed upon time and day. Gary was a no show and didn't tell anyone else that I was coming in. One of the guys who recognized me from the initial drop off. We talked and he jumped in to go for a test drive. Sure enough, the transmission wasn't performing correctly. I needed to talk to Gary to determine what to do. Three months of calling to speak with Gary resulted in no resolution. He was never there. His shop couldn't figure out what to do with it. I offered to pay for time and materials if the bad performance was due to my installation. Needless to say, I looked I to it. My local area shop was kind enough to give me things to look for as I tore into my transmission. What I did find was dark red Type F fluid, a dirty and scored valve body (well used and definitely not overhauled), a dirty/sticking and scored governor (causes shift issues), a broken steel ring on the stator (affects shifting in 3rd), and a broken tab thrust washers. My experience may not be yours but I am far from happy with the level of professionalism of this shop and condition of their overhual.
