Scott Speedometer Service Introduce
Scott Speedometer Service, located at 7111 Dixie Hwy Box 363, Village of Clarkston, MI 48346, USA, operates within the "Auto Repair Stations" category, but with a highly specialized focus. Unlike general repair shops that handle a wide range of vehicle issues, Scott Speedometer Service specializes in the repair and servicing of automotive instrument clusters, speedometers, odometers, and related gauges. This niche expertise caters to a specific need for vehicles experiencing issues with their dashboard instrumentation, which can include inaccurate readings, failing displays, or complete malfunction.
The environment of Scott Speedometer Service would likely be a specialized workshop rather than a typical multi-bay garage. Given the nature of the work—intricate electronic and mechanical repairs on delicate instrument clusters—the facility would need to be clean, organized, and equipped with specialized tools for diagnostics, soldering, calibration, and testing of these components. The physical address in the Village of Clarkston suggests a local presence for drop-offs, though the highly specialized nature of the service might also imply that customers could potentially mail in their clusters for repair, a common practice for such niche businesses. However, the provided reviews suggest an expectation for customers to visit the physical location. The "Box 363" in the address might indicate a smaller unit within a larger complex or a mailing address rather than a prominent storefront.
The services offered by Scott Speedometer Service are highly specialized and typically include:
Speedometer Repair: Addressing issues where the speedometer is not providing an accurate speed reading or is not functioning at all.
Odometer Repair: Fixing problems with the odometer, such as inaccurate mileage tracking or a completely non-functional display.
Instrument Cluster Repair: Comprehensive repair of the entire dashboard instrument cluster, which often includes the speedometer, odometer, fuel gauge, temperature gauge, and various warning lights.
Gauge Repair: Repairing individual gauges within the cluster that may be faulty (e.g., fuel gauge, temperature gauge, tachometer).
LCD Display Repair/Replacement: Addressing common issues with digital displays in instrument clusters, such as fading, pixel loss, or complete blanking, as specifically mentioned in a review for an Audi TT.
Calibration Services: Ensuring that repaired speedometers and odometers provide accurate readings.
Classic Car Gauge Restoration: Often, businesses specializing in instrument repair also cater to classic car owners who need to restore original gauges.
It is important to note that, as a specialized service, Scott Speedometer Service typically focuses only on the instrument cluster itself. This means they generally expect the customer or a mechanic to remove the cluster from the vehicle and bring it to them, or to have the vehicle brought in with the cluster easily accessible or already removed. They are not a general mechanic who would diagnose wider vehicle electrical issues or perform general repairs. Their expertise lies specifically in the internal workings of the gauges and cluster electronics.
Key features that would ideally define a business like Scott Speedometer Service:
Niche Specialization: Their dedicated focus on speedometers and instrument clusters allows for deep expertise in these complex components, which often require specialized tools and knowledge beyond what a general mechanic possesses.
Cost-Effectiveness: Repairing an instrument cluster or speedometer is often significantly cheaper than replacing the entire unit with a new or re-manufactured one from a dealership, especially for older or classic vehicles where new parts might be scarce or prohibitively expensive.
Restoration of Originality: For classic cars, repairing the original cluster maintains the vehicle's authenticity, a key feature for collectors.
Regarding promotional information, specialized businesses like Scott Speedometer Service often rely on word-of-mouth, online search presence, and a clear articulation of their specific capabilities. Typical promotional strategies might include:
Highlighting Cost Savings: Emphasizing that repair is a more affordable alternative to full replacement.
Expertise in Specific Brands/Models: Promoting their ability to handle common issues in certain popular models known for cluster problems (e.g., specific Audi or GM models).
Online Presence: A website detailing services, common issues, and a process for mailing in clusters for repair.
Warranty on Repairs: Offering a warranty on their repair work to provide confidence to customers.
However, the provided customer reviews offer very strong and consistent negative feedback, which significantly impacts the objective introduction of this particular business.
The first review describes an extremely disappointing experience marked by inconsistent pricing and aggressive behavior. The customer called, received a quote of "$150 and no problem, 1 hour," only to be told the next day it would be "3 days and $500." When questioned about the discrepancy, the owner allegedly became aggressive and told the customer to "leave the store." The reviewer strongly recommends "steering clear," noting that another speedometer place fixed the issue "in 10 minutes for $99 bucks the same day." This review highlights:
Inconsistent Pricing and Quotes: A major issue with verbal quotes not being honored.
Unprofessional Behavior: The alleged aggressive and nonsensical response when confronted about the discrepancy.
Extended Service Time: The drastic increase in estimated repair time.
The second review details a multi-day ordeal for an Audi TT LCD display repair, which ultimately resulted in the display being "worst than before." This customer also experienced significant issues with communication, scheduling, and overall service quality:
Unsuccessful Repair: The primary problem is that the repair failed and made the situation worse.
Poor Communication and Scheduling Issues: The owner (Scott) repeatedly made excuses about being busy and pushed appointments back, even when the customer was ready to bring the car in after the initial failed repair. This demonstrates a significant lack of reliability and customer commitment.
Inconvenient Repair Process: The requirement for the customer's mechanic to remove the cluster, and then being asked to bring the car back with the cluster "loose" but still connected, caused additional hassle.
Refund Issues: While a refund was eventually given, a $20 deduction was made for a failed service, further adding to the customer's frustration.
Lousy Service: The overall sentiment of the review is that the service was unacceptable, leading to a strong recommendation to "avoid Scott Speedometer for any service."
In conclusion, while Scott Speedometer Service offers a specialized and valuable service in theory—repairing automotive instrument clusters—the overwhelming negative consensus from the provided customer reviews indicates significant practical issues. These concerns revolve around:
Inconsistent and potentially deceptive pricing and service quotes.
Unreliable scheduling and poor communication.
Substandard repair quality (failed repair, made worse).
Unprofessional and uncooperative customer service.
For local users in the Village of Clarkston and surrounding areas, or those considering mailing in a cluster, the online information presents a service that could potentially save money over dealership replacements. However, the consistent and severe negative customer feedback strongly suggests a high risk of dissatisfaction, financial issues, and wasted time. Potential customers should exercise extreme caution and consider alternatives, as suggested by the first reviewer's successful experience with a different provider.

Scott Speedometer Service Customer Reviews
Moronic. Simply put this business will not be around much longer. I called and described in detail what my issue was, he said "$150 and no problem, we see that issue all the time, 1 hour and you'll be all set." Then drove 1 hour the next day and mentioned the call. He then responded with the complete opposite. It was going to be 3 days and $500. I said was it you who I talked to yesterday, did you remember that call? Why is this a different story one day later? He said to leave the store. I seriously think his guy forgot his meds. His behavior made no sense. Extremely disappointed. Strongly recommend steering clear. The speedometer place in Brighton then fixed it in 10 minutes for $99 bucks the same day.

I used Scott Speedometer to repair my cluster on my 2002 Audi TT. The LCD display in the center of the cluster gets faded away after sometime on Audi TTs. I called Scott first and asked him will he do repair on Audi TT. He said yes and also negotiated on a price of $200. I brought him the cluster as he said he will not remove it from the car. So my mechanic helped me to remove the cluster from the car. I took the cluster to him and leave it for a few days. Then the following week I called him checking if it is done. He said it is, but if it doesn't work just bring the whole cluster back to him with the vehicle. So I asked if the repair is unsuccessful will you remove the cluster from the vehicle or how should I bring in. He said no remove all the trim panels, but leave the cluster connected wherein I can still drive. But the cluster has to be loose. I was like okay. I get the cluster back and took it to the mechanic. He installs and we start the car and nothing shows up in the LCD. It was worst than before. I call Scott and explain the problem. He is like I have no time today bring it on Monday. It may due to soldering or connection issues. So again I took the car to the mechanic. He removes the panel, but leaves the cluster connected where I can still drive. I call Scott can I come and leave the car. Now he started playing games. I am so busy now and I got 3 cars and I need to errands. Come Tuesday. So the next day I call him up and he says a different story I am super busy today and don't have time. That was the final straw of my patience. I said I had enough of the excuses. Just pay my money back and we call it even. Then he says well I don't have the time for you today. Need to come on Wednesday. I hung up the phone. Went to his shop. He was there. I would say he wasn't that busy at all. He gave me the refund, but he took $20. So I got a refund of $180. Please avoid Scott Speedometer for any service. What a lousy service place.

Completely fixed my f-150 cluster in less than an hour. Other places wanted more money and over a week to do this. I have not had one since issue since. If you need speedometer work, this is the place to go for sure. Plus this business has been open for over 60 years. Support local. Especially when the service is this good.

I had a great experience with Scott Speedometer Service. They had a 38 year old Harley Davidson speedometer part in stock and in new condition. I felt his price was fair. His shipping was timely and easy to work with. I see some of the reviews aren't the best. With that being said I'm sure all the good experiences don't end up on the reviews. Don't hesitate to give them a chance. I will in the future.
