San Bernardino Machine Shop Introduce

San Bernardino Machine Shop, located at 2397 Cabrera Ave, San Bernardino, CA 92411, USA, operates within the "Auto Repair Stations" category, specializing in engine machining and rebuilding services. They can be reached by phone at (909) 213-2247 or via mobile at +1 909-213-2247.

This establishment offers services critical to the deep-level repair and restoration of vehicle engines. However, the provided customer reviews reveal significant and consistent concerns regarding the quality of workmanship, customer service, and warranty practices, which are important for any potential customer to consider.

Environment and Facility

Based on the customer reviews, the physical environment of San Bernardino Machine Shop is described as a "mess." This implies a potentially disorganized or unclean workspace, which could impact the perception of professionalism and attention to detail. The negative comments about the owner's professionalism and attitude further suggest a challenging customer interaction environment within the shop. One customer explicitly states, "he takes no pride in his work," which, if true, could reflect poorly on the general upkeep and organization of the facility and the quality of work performed there. While the shop's specific equipment is not detailed, the nature of its services (engine machining, cylinder boring, align honing) implies the presence of specialized machinery required for such precise tasks. However, the outcomes described in reviews suggest potential issues with the maintenance or proper utilization of this equipment.

Services Offered

San Bernardino Machine Shop primarily focuses on critical engine-related machining and rebuilding services. Based on the customer reviews, these services include:

  • Engine Building/Rebuilding: The shop undertakes the full assembly and rebuilding of motors, as evidenced by a customer's experience with a blown stock motor.
  • Cylinder Bore/Hone: This is a fundamental machining service to prepare cylinder walls for new pistons, ensuring correct sizing and surface finish.
  • Align Hone Mains: A crucial process for ensuring the main bearing bores are perfectly aligned and round, critical for crankshaft rotation and oil pressure.
  • Head Rework: Addressing issues with cylinder heads, such as internal problems leading to VTEC engagement failures.
  • Block Deck Height Adjustment: Machining the engine block's deck surface to achieve the correct height and flatness, which is essential for proper head gasket sealing and timing cover alignment.

These services are foundational to restoring or enhancing an engine's performance and longevity. However, the effectiveness and quality of these services, as perceived by customers, are highly contentious.

Features and Customer Experience

The provided customer reviews highlight several critical features and experiences at San Bernardino Machine Shop, predominantly from a negative perspective:

  • Workmanship Quality (Major Concerns):
    • One customer experienced repeated issues with a rebuilt engine, including "Vtec issue where it wouldn’t engage correctly," "internal issues on the head," and recurrent "smoking from the turbo" due to "contamination in the motor" and "debris" found in the oil. This indicates potential fundamental flaws in the engine build or machining process.
    • Another customer detailed severe machining errors on a Nissan VQ35 engine, including "mains that looked like they got hit with a mallet and a screw driver (literally the main bore has a groove 1/16” deep)," "bores were also undersized for the pistons," and an uneven "Block Deck height... now the front timing cover will not line up." These are significant quality control failures that can lead to catastrophic engine damage.
  • Customer Service and Professionalism (Highly Negative):
    • The owner, Alberto, is explicitly described as "extremely unprofessional" and getting "irate when you ask about warranty."
    • The same customer noted that the owner "lied about doing an align hone on the mains until I pointed it out," demonstrating a lack of honesty.
    • The interactions described are confrontational, with the shop refusing to provide refunds or compensation for alleged faulty work, leaving customers to incur significant additional costs at other shops.
  • Warranty Practices (Major Concerns):
    • A customer was allegedly told that the warranty was "just start up and dyno," a very limited warranty that offers minimal protection for a rebuilt engine, especially one costing significant money. This suggests a lack of confidence in their long-term work or a policy that offers little recourse for customers.
  • Timeliness (Negative):
    • One customer reported that it took "2 months to give me back mains" that were improperly machined, indicating a significant delay for unsatisfactory work.
  • Pride in Work: The review directly states, "he takes no pride in his work," which is a severe criticism reflecting on the overall dedication to quality.
Promotional Information

Based solely on the provided customer reviews, there is no positive promotional information to share. The current reviews emphasize negative experiences and strong warnings to other potential customers. Instead of typical promotional benefits, the "promotional information" conveyed through these reviews serves as a public service announcement to exercise extreme caution.

  • Warnings to the Community: Customers actively share their negative experiences "for transparency in the automotive community" and urge others to "do more research, read the reviews."
  • Implied Lack of Warranty Support: The refusal to honor reasonable warranty claims or offer recourse for alleged faulty work is a significant deterrent to potential customers, suggesting a lack of post-service support.

For individuals in San Bernardino, CA, considering engine machining or rebuilding services, it is critically important to be aware of the detailed negative feedback available online regarding San Bernardino Machine Shop. Prospective customers are strongly advised to conduct extensive due diligence, seek multiple quotes, thoroughly inspect any work performed, and ensure clear, written agreements regarding service scope, expected quality, and warranty terms before engaging with this establishment. San Bernardino Machine Shop Customer Reviews

Horrible Shop, do not take anything there. Owner is extremely unprofessional and gets irate when you ask about warranty POSTING FOR TRANSPARENCY IN THE COMMUNITY Motor was built all by SB Machine shop in San Bernardino, CA. Alberto was a friend of mine and said he could take care of the engine when I blew up the stock motor adding boost. I want it to BE CLEAR that I asked him for a price, not a discount. In the future for anyone regardless of our relationship if we ever have an arrangement related to monetary compensation, YOU need to set your price. I don’t ever want to hear you gave me a deal or didn’t give me your best work due to payment. Miles on the motor since rebuild are maybe 1500. Four oil changes and filters (following SB Machine shops break in oil cycle) and all temps and pressures were always monitored. The engine first had a Vtec issue where it wouldn’t engage correctly on the dyno, found internal issues on the head. Shortly after that it was back to running after a head rework, new head gasket. Then shortly after, maybe another 100 miles it started smoking from the turbo. Took turbo to PT turbos in San Bernardino for rebuild, reinstalled. Drove the car maybe another 40 miles and smoking again. PT Turbo once again rebuilt it, telling me there was contamination in the motor. I removed the oil, cut the filter, and found debris. Some metallic particles along with black flaky material that was not magnetic. I removed the number 4 con cap and found scratching and pitting. I tried to get SB Machine shop to refund me some money to pay another shop to rebuild the engine or give me some parts that I could use in value to the rebuild but I was refused and told that the warranty was just start up and dyno. Just a message for anyone about to choose #SBMachineShop to do more research, read the reviews. The more you do, the more information comes to light. Again, this is for transparency in the automotive community.

Took a Nissan VQ35 engine to get machined. Basic work cylinder bore/hone and align hone mains. Took 2 months to give me back mains that looked like they got hit with a mallet and a screw driver (literally the main bore has a groove 1/16” deep) which will now always have a decrease in oil pressure and not be good. He also lied about doing an align hone on the mains until I pointed it out and he gave me back the money for that. The bores were also undersized for the pistons that were going to be used and could have potentially locked a piston if assembled. His reasoning was that the piston coating was rubbed off, this makes no sense as I provided the spec recommended just seems like he didn’t care. Block Deck height was also taken down so much on block that now the front timing cover will not line up. The driver side is .030” lower than the passenger side and he claims that’s “normal” and that I should use thicker gaskets. I wouldn’t recommend that when one side will have .030” protrusion above deck. After picking up my engine after 2 months from SB had to pay another machine shop to machine an entirely new VQ35 block, and pay again. He refused to cover the cost of the new block I HAD TO SOURCE. Overall waste of time and money, won’t recommend this shop for any work, especially anything that needs to be done correctly and a timely manner. PSA the shop is a mess, he takes no pride in his work.

Worst shop ever! He supposedly did a engine rebuild and man let me tell u! The timing was off 5 teeth. There were hits where my intake manifold was at. Missing parts saying he didn't have and he did. Had to go outta my way to get them and when I picked up the engine he was no where to be found! Sent a guy I never seen before cus he didn't want to face me. What a coward! Long story short. Don't go there at all!

It’s been almost a year and I’m still waiting to get a call/message for a quote on my engine, I dropped it off and waited until after a week it just didn’t matter to me anymore I decided to go a different way with my project. I just left the engine with them if it’s still there who knows but never even got a quote. Very disappointed with the service mostly because I know that they rush other builders engines and probably forget other that they may consider less important.
