Sam's Club Tire & Battery Introduce

Sam's Club Tire & Battery in Southgate, MI, located at 15700 Northline Rd, Southgate, MI 48195, USA, operates as a specialized service center within the larger Sam's Club warehouse. While Sam's Club is primarily a membership-based retail giant, its "Tire & Battery" centers fall under the broader "Auto Repair Stations" category by providing specific automotive services and goods for sale. This particular location offers essential vehicle maintenance and product sales, catering to the needs of Sam's Club members in the Southgate area and surrounding communities. It aims to provide convenience and competitive pricing for some of the most common automotive needs: tires and batteries.

Environment and Setting

The Sam's Club Tire & Battery center is typically situated within or adjacent to the main Sam's Club warehouse. This integration means customers can often combine their automotive service appointments with their regular shopping trips, offering a unique level of convenience. The environment is generally utilitarian, focusing on efficiency and functionality rather than luxurious amenities. You can expect a dedicated service bay area for tire installation, balancing, and battery testing/replacement. The waiting area, if separate from the main club, is usually basic but functional. The benefit of this setup is the accessibility and the ability to leverage the broader Sam's Club infrastructure. The location on Northline Road makes it a readily accessible option for residents of Southgate and nearby areas.

Services and Goods for Sale

As the name clearly indicates, the core services offered by Sam's Club Tire & Battery are centered around vehicle tires and batteries. Operating as an "Auto Repair Station" within this specific scope, they provide:

  • Tire Sales and Installation: Sam's Club offers a selection of tires from various reputable brands, often at competitive, member-exclusive prices. Their service includes professional tire installation, balancing, rotation, and flat tire repair. They often promote all-inclusive pricing that covers mounting, balancing, new valve stems, and lifetime tire rotations and flat repairs for tires purchased from them.
  • Battery Sales and Installation: A key offering is car batteries, also often available at competitive prices for members. The service department will test your existing battery, help you select the correct replacement, and install the new battery. They typically offer a warranty on batteries purchased and installed at their facility.
  • Battery Testing: They provide diagnostic testing for vehicle batteries, helping to determine if a battery needs replacement or if another component (like the alternator) is at fault.

It's important to note that while they are an "Auto Repair Station," their service scope is limited to these specific areas. Unlike full-service auto repair shops, they do not typically offer comprehensive mechanical repairs, engine diagnostics, brake services beyond possibly quick checks during tire installation, or complex transmission work.

Key Features and Customer Experience

The customer experience at Sam's Club Tire & Battery, as reflected in available reviews, can be quite varied. Several key features and points of feedback emerge:

  • Membership-Based Service: Access to their services and products generally requires a Sam's Club membership. This is a fundamental aspect of their business model.
  • Competitive Pricing: One of the main draws for members is the potential for cost savings on tires and batteries, often due to the club's bulk purchasing power.
  • Warranty Services: Sam's Club typically offers warranties on the tires and batteries they sell and install, which can be a significant benefit. However, a customer review highlighted issues with battery warranty claims, where a replacement battery failed prematurely, and the subsequent claim was complicated by claims of a "frozen" battery and a purported lack of warranty on a new replacement due to being a "grocery store." This indicates potential inconsistencies in warranty claim processing and communication.
  • Staff Professionalism and Willingness to Serve: Customer reviews indicate that the quality of service can vary significantly. One customer experienced a highly negative interaction when attempting to get new tires, describing the employee as giving "every excuse to not get the job done," citing issues like an "inadequate lift," "stuck valve caps," and tight re-bookings. This individual felt the employee's "motive was to do as little as possible," ultimately leading them to go elsewhere. This suggests potential issues with customer service attitudes, possibly due to staffing levels, workload, or training.
  • Focus on Specific Services: While beneficial for tires and batteries, the limited service scope means customers needing broader automotive repairs will need to seek services elsewhere.
  • Diagnostics and Problem Solving: In the battery instance, the customer reported being told the battery was "frozen solid" and wouldn't work, despite an independent test showing an internal temperature of 62 degrees. This indicates a potential lack of thorough or accurate diagnostic capabilities, or a communication issue regarding the diagnosis.

These reviews suggest that while the value proposition for products like tires and batteries can be strong, the service execution and customer interaction can be inconsistent, impacting overall satisfaction.

Sam's Club Tire & Battery Customer Reviews

Tried getting replacement tires. Ordered the same ones that my existing vehicle has on it for the last 8 years. The guy gave every excuse to not get the job done. - Lift is inadequate and might not be sufficient for your vehicle - Valve caps are stuck on and will be hard to remove, might damage valve stems - Re-bookings are tight and can’t get me in soon - Suggested I buy entirely new rims to get job completed - His tone changed to happy once I decided to go elsewhere It was clear his motive was to do as little as possible and get out of jobs. Going somewhere else.

Bought a battery there Dec 2021. Same battery was dead in Jan 2023, they replaced it under warranty. The replacement battery died Jan 2024. Took it in for a test, they looked at paperwork and said it was already covered under warranty. Yes i am quite aware it was already replaced. The battery didnt even make it a full year. They took it back to test it. Came back and said its frozen solid so we have to wait for it to thaw before charging it, but then says it wont work anyways if its frozen and u can tell by the snow on it its frozen. Firsty we put it down on the lawn after we took it out so duhhhhh of course it had snow on it. Secondly a frozen battery is not covered. So fine, sell us a new one, he said we can sell u one but because we are a grocery store it will not have a warranty.....ok WHAT? Thirdly we took it to Auto Zone they ran a test, the internal temp of 62 degrees. Now I dont know about anyone else but where i come from 62 degrees is not frozen. He said the battery was dead. Very helpful team at Auto Zone Southgate. Will never buy batteries from Sams Club.

Will never make the mistake of buying tires here again. Only reason they get 2 stars is because they did a fine job replacing the old ones(I know not hard). Otherwise they have been terrible for any problems. Oh you bought a warranty on the tires? Good luck using it. Got a flat? Come back in a week when we have an appointment available. Oh you have a nail in your sidewall? Come back in a week and we will replace it with the warranty. What am I supposed to do for a week with a flat?! I cant drive on the small spare especially not in the snow. Oh and you would think they could order the tires for you but no. You have to go online, pick them out and order them site to store. I bought my other car tires from Ford and if I have a problem I can drive up and get seen that day usually within the hour. That's how tire problems should be taken care of. Sam's club is terrible, do yourself a favor and buy your tires anywhere else.

Incompetent. Went in for a set of new tires and specified the specific tire size that I wanted but insisted that they have the make and model and look at the tires themselves (understandable if people get it wrong.) I then proceed to tell them that I have an appointment for shocks, struts, and alignment the following day. They go full stop and tell me if the struts are bad their lift wont go high enough. They don't seem to understand when lifting a vehicle reguardless the suspension will droop out completely and bottom out the struts without the weight of the vehicle on the tires. I proceed to then ask if thats the case, how do they in turn lift up trucks then to change tires. Either they are that lazy that they didnt want to change the tires or purely incompetent on the basic understanging of how vehicle suspensions work. Spend the couple extra bucks and take it to an actual tire shop. The cheaper price is not worth the hassel.

Service was fast however I feel it's unacceptable to let the car go with the rim looking like this. How lazy can someone be? You get dirt all over the wheel you should maybe wipe it off. This is on my father's vehicle. I personally don't use this shop for my tire needs.
