Roan & Holston Service Center Introduce

Roan & Holston Service Center, situated at 900 N Roan St, Johnson City, TN 37601, USA, operates as an established independent Auto Repair Station, providing a range of automotive services to the local community. As a locally-owned business, it often aims to foster a more personal connection with its clientele compared to larger corporate chains, striving to be a trusted resource for vehicle maintenance and repair.

Environment and Atmosphere

The environment at Roan & Holston Service Center would likely be that of a traditional, functional auto repair garage. This typically includes several service bays equipped with vehicle lifts, a variety of hand and power tools, and diagnostic equipment necessary for performing a wide range of automotive repairs. The shop floor is usually designed for efficiency, allowing technicians to move freely and access necessary resources. There would be a customer reception area, which might be a modest space where clients can check in their vehicles, wait for minor services, and discuss repairs with the staff. The atmosphere of an independent service center often feels more hands-on and less formal than a large dealership. Its location on N Roan St suggests it's situated on a main thoroughfare, making it easily accessible for Johnson City residents seeking automotive services. Cleanliness and organization within the service bays would be paramount for efficient operation, while the waiting area aims to provide a comfortable, albeit basic, space for customers.

Services and Goods for Sale

Roan & Holston Service Center offers a variety of general automotive repair and maintenance services, typical of a comprehensive Auto Repair Station. Based on customer reviews, their services likely include:

  • General Auto Repair and Maintenance: This covers common vehicle needs. A customer explicitly mentions "oil changes, brakes, charging the AC and many other random things," indicating a broad capability for routine maintenance and various repair tasks.

  • Oil Changes: Essential for vehicle longevity, including standard oil and filter replacements.

  • Brake Services: This would involve inspection, diagnosis, and repair or replacement of brake components such as pads, rotors, calipers, and brake lines.

  • AC Charging and Repair: Services related to the vehicle's air conditioning system, ensuring it cools effectively, which can involve recharging refrigerant or repairing components.

  • Diagnostics: While not explicitly detailed, the mention of "many other random things" implies their capacity to diagnose and fix various vehicle issues that may arise, from electrical problems to performance concerns.

  • Parts Sales (Incidental to Repair): As a repair shop, they would procure and sell auto parts as part of their repair services, ensuring they use appropriate components for the work performed.

As a service center, their primary offering is their expertise and labor to perform repairs and maintenance, rather than selling parts over the counter like a retail auto parts store.

Features and Customer Experience

The features of Roan & Holston Service Center, as revealed through customer testimonials, present a dual narrative. On the positive side, a significant feature is the high level of trust and quality associated with certain staff members. One glowing review highlights "Mike Slagle" as a "gem," praising his consistency: "He has worked on my VW Golf for several years. Everything from oil changes, brakes, charging the AC and many other random things. He's upfront and honest. Everyone knows that finding a trustworthy mechanic is no easy feat. On top of that, he does excellent quality work with fair pricing. Very grateful to know him." This indicates that the business possesses highly valued attributes such as:

  • Trustworthiness and Honesty: A critical feature in the auto repair industry, as customers often seek mechanics they can rely on for transparent assessments and fair dealings.

  • Quality Work: The review emphasizes "excellent quality work," suggesting a high standard of repair and maintenance, leading to customer satisfaction and vehicle reliability.

  • Fair Pricing: Coupled with quality, fair pricing is a strong selling point, making the service accessible and valuable to customers.

  • Reliability and Consistency: Working on the same vehicle for "several years" implies a consistent positive experience and a loyal customer base.

However, another review details a highly negative customer interaction, indicating significant issues with communication and potentially staff demeanor. This review describes "A misunderstanding lead to owner, telling me to never come back to his business." The customer states, "his son is very rude," and despite the owner usually being "extremely nice," he "was yelling telling me not to come back." This points to:

  • Inconsistent Customer Service: A stark contrast between generally positive interactions and a very negative, abrupt encounter.

  • Communication Breakdown: A "misunderstanding" over pricing, followed by an aggressive response from management, highlights a lack of effective communication and conflict resolution.

  • Rudeness of Staff: The specific mention of the son being "very rude" suggests an issue with professionalism or customer-facing skills among some employees.

This duality in feedback means that while some customers experience exceptional service and build long-term trust, others might encounter significant interpersonal issues that severely impact their perception of the business. The "moral of post is sometimes you can hear things wrong, and you kids are not always right" suggests a need for better internal communication and de-escalation training.

Promotional Information

Roan & Holston Service Center, as a local independent auto repair shop, likely relies heavily on word-of-mouth referrals and its reputation within the Johnson City community. The phone numbers, (423) 929-0001 and +1 423-929-0001, serve as primary contact points for scheduling appointments or inquiring about services. Promotional strategies would typically include:

  • Building a Strong Local Reputation: The positive reviews highlight that honest, quality work by specific technicians like Mike Slagle is their best form of promotion, leading to long-term customer relationships and referrals. Maintaining a consistent standard of excellent service is paramount.

  • Online Presence: Having accurate listings on local business directories (Google Maps, Yelp, etc.) with updated contact information and service descriptions is crucial for visibility. Responding to both positive and negative reviews professionally could also be a part of their online strategy, although there is no information on their engagement with reviews.

  • Direct Customer Communication: Utilizing their phone numbers for clear and friendly communication about estimates, repair progress, and pricing, as praised by the positive reviewer.

  • Fair Pricing: The mention of "fair pricing" acts as an inherent promotional point, attracting customers looking for value without compromising quality.

  • Repeat Business Incentives: While not specified, independent shops sometimes offer small discounts for repeat customers or referrals to encourage loyalty.

  • Specialization (Implicit): While offering general repair, the sustained good relationship with a VW Golf owner suggests they may have expertise with certain makes or models, which could be implicitly promoted through successful repairs.

The contradictory nature of the reviews suggests that any promotional efforts must be underpinned by consistent service quality and respectful customer interaction across all staff members to avoid alienating potential or returning clients.

In conclusion, Roan & Holston Service Center at 900 N Roan St, Johnson City, TN, is an Auto Repair Station that offers a range of general automotive maintenance and repair services. Its key features include the provision of honest, high-quality work and fair pricing, exemplified by specific trusted mechanics like Mike Slagle, leading to strong customer loyalty. However, potential customers should be aware that the overall customer experience can be inconsistent, with reports of rude staff and poor conflict resolution during disagreements. For those seeking a reliable local mechanic who performs excellent quality work at a fair price, Roan & Holston Service Center shows promise, especially when dealing with specific, highly-rated individuals within the business. However, careful communication on pricing and expectations would be advisable to avoid potential misunderstandings.

Roan & Holston Service Center Customer Reviews

A misunderstanding lead to owner, telling me to never come back to his business. He has always been extremely nice. But I asked his son a price and he thought I said something I didn't. And his son is very rude. I just couldn't remember if the price was for air in 4 tires or 1. Of course he believes his son. I have no hard feelings towards the man, cause like I said he is usually really nice, that's why I didn't say to much when he was yelling telling me not to come back. Moral of post is sometimes you can hear things wrong, and you kids are not always right. But I will respect him and never go back. But I wouldn't go back after the way he spoke to me.

Owner was super friendly, great customer service. He figured out what was wrong with my air conditioner and didn't even charge me a thing. He reminds me of the way people should be but aren't now a days.

Friendly, fast. Never a line. Very competent. Why would you go anywhere else to get your oil changed?

Love this place! One of the last few full-service gas stations around. Oil change, minor repair work & one of the best secret spots for fresh sausage. No kidding. 👍🏼
