Rick's Lube Complete Autocare Introduce

For vehicle owners in Torrance, California, and the surrounding areas seeking automotive maintenance and repair, Rick's Lube Complete Autocare is an establishment operating within the Auto Repair Stations category. Located at 2540 Sepulveda Blvd, Torrance, CA 90505, USA, this facility aims to provide a range of services from routine lubrication to more complex diagnostics. They can be contacted via phone at (310) 784-8561 or mobile at +1 310-784-8561.

When considering an auto repair station, customers typically evaluate several factors, including the environment, the scope of services offered, the specific features that differentiate the business, and any promotional information. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview of Rick's Lube Complete Autocare, drawing extensively from detailed customer reviews to present a comprehensive picture of its operations and customer experiences.

Environment and Accessibility

Rick's Lube Complete Autocare is situated on Sepulveda Blvd, a major thoroughfare in Torrance, suggesting reasonable accessibility for customers in the area. As a "Lube Complete Autocare" facility, its environment likely combines elements of a quick-lube station with a more traditional auto repair shop. This would typically include drive-through bays for rapid services like oil changes, a waiting area for customers, and a garage space equipped for more extensive mechanical work. The presence of a "manager" and technicians, as indicated by the reviews, points to a standard operational structure. While specific details about the cleanliness or comfort of the waiting area are not provided, the overall impression conveyed by customer feedback is heavily influenced by staff interactions, which can shape a customer's perception of the environment more broadly.

Services Offered

As suggested by its name, Rick's Lube Complete Autocare appears to offer a range of services from basic maintenance to more involved repairs. "Lube" indicates a focus on oil changes and related fluid services. "Complete Autocare" suggests a broader scope, which, according to customer reviews, includes:

  • Brake Work: One detailed review describes a "full brake work up," including diagnostics and potential replacement of brake pads and wheel bearings.
  • Diagnostic Services for Check Engine Light Issues: Another review highlights multiple attempts to diagnose and resolve a recurring "check engine light" problem, involving the replacement of an "air fuel sensor," "mass air flow sensor," and a recommendation for "fuel injectors" replacement.
  • General Maintenance: The implication of "lube" services suggests routine maintenance, which is foundational to complete autocare.

These services align with the typical offerings of an "Auto Repair Station" that aims to be a one-stop shop for common vehicle issues and preventative maintenance. The goal is to address both immediate problems and ongoing vehicle health.

Features and Customer Experience

Customer experiences at Rick's Lube Complete Autocare, as detailed in the provided reviews, present a complex and largely negative picture, despite an initial positive impression of the owner, Rick. Key features and aspects of the customer experience that emerge are:

  • Owner's Perceived Character vs. Employee Performance: Rick, the owner, is initially described by one customer as "THAT guy" and "gracious," suggesting a positive personal reputation. However, this positive sentiment is sharply contrasted with highly negative experiences with "his employees," particularly the "manager" at the location. This highlights a potential disconnect between leadership and operational execution.
  • Inconsistent or Questionable Diagnostics: A major recurring issue across both detailed reviews is the perceived inaccuracy or inconsistency of diagnostic work.
    • In the brake issue, the owner, Rick, initially affirmed the brake pads were "fine," only for the manager two weeks later to state they needed replacement due to a missing "metal clip" that was supposedly causing the squeak. This leads to a sense of being misled or having initial work incomplete.
    • In the check engine light issue, there were multiple, successive diagnoses (air fuel sensor, mass air flow sensor, then fuel injectors) that failed to resolve the root problem, leading to repeated and costly repairs without a lasting solution. This points to a significant lack of diagnostic competence.
  • Communication Issues and Lack of Transparency:
    • The manager's alleged refusal to allow a customer to speak with the owner, Rick, during his vacation, despite a significant unresolved issue, indicates poor communication protocols and a lack of accountability.
    • The shifting diagnoses and escalating costs for the check engine light problem suggest a lack of clear communication regarding the underlying issue and the potential for a comprehensive, accurate solution.
  • Disputed Responsibility and Refusal of Refund: A particularly concerning feature is the owner Rick's initial offer of a refund for unresolved issues that later changed to a refusal. This directly impacts customer trust and satisfaction, suggesting a lack of accountability for failed repairs.
  • Perceived Incompetence of Staff: One review explicitly labels the "Store mechanic incompetent and ignorant about car," directly challenging the professionalism and skill level of the technicians.
  • Monetary Loss and Unresolved Issues: Both reviews highlight situations where customers spent significant amounts of money (e.g., $491 for brakes, over $300 for engine sensors) without their initial problems being resolved. This results in frustration and a feeling of being taken advantage of.
  • Lack of Follow-Through: The brake issue returning after a week, and the check engine light returning repeatedly after sensor replacements, demonstrate a failure to resolve the underlying problems effectively.

In summary, while the owner might have a positive personal reputation, the operational experiences, particularly regarding diagnostic accuracy, staff conduct, and resolution of recurring issues, are overwhelmingly negative according to these detailed customer accounts.

Promotional Information

Based on the provided customer reviews, there is no positive promotional information available for Rick's Lube Complete Autocare. Instead, the reviews contain strong admonitions against using the service. Promotional messages implicitly conveyed by the customer feedback are highly negative:

  • **"Avoid this place at all cost":** This is a direct, emphatic warning from a disillusioned long-time customer.
  • **"Do not use this store for auto repair":** Another direct instruction from a customer who experienced multiple failed repairs and denied refunds.
  • **"Waste money but did not take responsibility":** This highlights a perceived lack of value and accountability.
  • **"Not trustworthy":** A critical assessment of the owner's integrity after a refund reversal.
  • **"Still sounding like a dying bird":** A vivid description of an unresolved issue after significant expense.

For local users considering Rick's Lube Complete Autocare, these reviews suggest a need for extreme caution. The experiences described, particularly regarding diagnostic accuracy, service quality, and customer dispute resolution, indicate significant risks. It is advisable for prospective customers to carefully consider these reported experiences when making decisions about vehicle repair and maintenance.

Rick's Lube Complete Autocare Customer Reviews

The only reason I am giving this place one star is because the owner has been gracious to me over the years! Rick is THAT guy but his employees? More specifically, the "manager" at this location is a piece of work. I went in two weeks ago for a full brake work up. Thank God, I received direct instruction/ feedback from Rick, the owner. Rick affirmed me that all was well with my brakes and that I would not need to change my brake pads. He did recommend that I change my wheel bearings and offered a deal on getting them all replaced that day. After driving around with this terrible squeak for weeks, I was open to doing all what needed to be done. I paid about $491 after taxes for this service and parts; driving off with full confidence in the job they've done. Needless to say, the squeak came back about a week. Today, making it two weeks to the day since my last visit, I decided to take my car back to Rick's with hopes of seeing the owner to get to the root of this issue. As soon as I pulled up, the manager came out and I told him that I had been here two weeks ago and I'm still hearing the same noise from the initial visit. I took a test drive with him so that he could hear the noise. After the drive, I asked how long it would be because I had just finished a 12 hour shift and didn't want to wait a long time. even tols him that I'd come back another day. The manager told me the wait for the diagnostic would be less than 30 minutes to see what the issue was. This was the first issue, I waited almost an hour and a half before he let me know that my brake pads needed to be replaced. He said that the metal clip was missing from it and because they don't sell that part separate from the padding itself, I'd need to replace the break pad altogether for an additional $200. Now, this would have been fine if Rick hadn't affirmed me that the brake pads were fine 2 weeks ago. The manager continues to tell me that while the brake pads are in still "good shape" -- I'd need to pay for them to be replaced because the little metal part that's missing from the top of the brake pads is what is rubbing against my rotors making the scratching/ squeaking noise. I've never been more disappointed in all my years of going to Ricks. This is completely unreasonable and the manager refused to let me speak to Rick about this issue as he did not want to "interrupt Rick's vacation". Again, I know Rick would have been taken care of this issue free of charge because this was a mistake on their end. And if he didn't waive it entirely, the least I would've had to pay is a service fee of about 75 bucks. The piece had to have been missing from the initial visit because I have not received brake care from anyone else since then, yet and still I'm down $491 dollars with my car still sounding like a dying bird. I left and plan to go back on Friday to speak with Rick directly. I hope to come back here with an entirely new tone. As of right now, avoid this place at all cost.

Do not use this store for auto repair. I took my Toyota car for repair as check engine light came on. I got air fuel sensor replaced for $72.61 per auto mechanic's recommendation. Store manager said I won't have problem again. But 7 weeks later check engine light came on again. This time manager said mass air flow sensor is not working. I had it replaced for $267.94 this time. However, 2 days later check engine light came back on again. This time they said all fuel injectors need to be replace for $785.40. I declined it pointing out I cannot rely on their diagnosis and asked for the refund. Initially owner Rick Nickel offered refund but later he changed his mind and refused to do so. I tried to resolve the issue with owner but he tried to avoid me. He is not trustworthy. Store mechanic is incompetent and ignorant about car. They did not find out what is wrong with my car and got me waste money but did not take responsibility.

Friendly and quick service. I’ve been coming here for my oil change exclusively since I purchased my car two years ago but the last time, they overtightened the drain plug and the new place I took it to now noticed damage to the plug and filter and charged me extra to remove and replace. Seems like they’re using the air ratchet when they’re not supposed to. Lazy work, will not be returning

ILWU brothers and sisters DO NOT come here! Total rip off. My family and I were stranded in 100 degree on a single mountain road for hours while we waited for a tow that cost us $786 since it was an RV. Then they screamed and cussed me out when I went in to talk to them about it. Their staff stood around mad dogging me and they took absolutely no responsibility for the fact they had just done work on it right before our trip and had messed up that work where I had to bring it back multiple times that same day because they had used the wrong part.

We have been going to either Rick's dad's "Big Rick's" shops for over 30 years. My family and I have all of our preventive maintenance done here. We would not think of having our vehicles serviced anywhere else! Thanks to everyone at both Torrance and their Catson location for the great service we receive each and every time we come in.
