Reed's Body Shop Introduce
Reed's Body Shop, located at 301 S Clay St, Hopkinsville, KY 42240, USA, operates as an auto repair station primarily focused on bodywork, painting, and vehicle restoration services. You can reach them by phone at (270) 887-1604 or via mobile at +1 270-887-1604.
A body shop specializing in painting and restoration, like Reed's Body Shop, typically features specific environmental components crucial for its operations. These usually include:
Work Bays: Dedicated areas where vehicles undergo various stages of body repair, such as dent removal, panel replacement, and structural adjustments. These areas are equipped with the necessary tools, lifts, and machinery for such tasks.
Paint Booths: For high-quality paint application, a body shop would generally have enclosed, climate-controlled paint booths designed to minimize dust and ensure an even, smooth finish. The quality of these facilities directly impacts the final paint result.
Prep Areas: Spaces dedicated to preparing vehicle surfaces for painting, including sanding, priming, and masking, which are vital steps for paint adhesion and durability.
Parts Storage: An organized system for storing new and repaired body panels, parts, and supplies. Proper storage helps maintain part integrity and efficiency in the repair process.
Customer Reception: A basic area for customers to drop off and pick up vehicles, discuss repair needs, and handle administrative tasks. Communication and transparency in this area are paramount for customer satisfaction.
The highly detailed negative review, however, suggests that while the physical infrastructure for such work may exist, the actual execution and quality control within that environment may have significant shortcomings. Issues like "waves and low spots (dents)," "orange peel" paint, "paint... not sticking," and "paint is cracking" point to deficiencies in the body prep, paint application, and overall finishing process, all of which are directly influenced by the working environment and procedures.
As an "Auto Repair Station" with a specialization in "Body Shop" services, Reed's Body Shop would typically offer a range of services related to vehicle exterior and structural integrity. Based on the customer feedback, their services likely include:
Body Repair: This involves fixing damage to the vehicle's body panels, including dents, dings, and collision-related deformation. This often requires metalwork, body filler application, and shaping to restore the original contours.
Painting Services: A core offering, involving preparing surfaces, priming, applying base coats, and clear coats. The goal is to achieve a factory-like finish with accurate color matching. The specific project mentioned, a "70 Lincoln... ready for primer, blocking, and paint," indicates they handle comprehensive paint jobs, potentially including restoration-level work.
Blocking: A critical step in high-quality paint jobs where the body filler and primer are meticulously sanded with a long block to ensure perfectly flat surfaces and eliminate waves or low spots before final painting.
Panel Alignment: Ensuring that doors, hoods, trunks, and other body panels fit correctly and line up with adjacent panels and the vehicle's frame. Issues with "doors do not line up with the jambs" and "hood does not sit square" suggest that panel alignment is a service they perform, though execution quality may vary.
Paint Touch-Up: As indicated by "mike reed was to touch up," they offer services to address minor paint imperfections or chips.
While a simple "๐" indicates a positive sentiment from one customer, the extensive negative review raises significant concerns about the quality of these services, particularly regarding the finished product and adherence to professional standards for restoration-level work.
The provided customer reviews present a stark contrast regarding the features of Reed's Body Shop.
A single "๐" may suggest a positive experience for that particular customer, possibly indicating satisfaction with a quick or minor service, or a different standard of expectation.
Substandard Workmanship: The most significant concern is the documented poor quality of the "paint job" and "body panels." Descriptions like "waves and low spots (dents)," "orange peel," "paint... not sticking," "peeling off," "paint is cracking," and "paint chips very easily" point to fundamental failures in metal preparation, bodywork, and paint application. This suggests a lack of attention to detail, proper techniques, or quality control.
Inaccurate Panel Alignment: The issues with "doors do not line up" and "hood does not sit square" indicate a failure to properly align body components after repair or during assembly, impacting both aesthetics and functionality.
Poor Paint Matching/Touch-Up Quality: The "paint does not match" and "affected areas looks like white out" for touch-ups demonstrates a lack of skill or proper procedure in color matching and blending, leading to visible discrepancies.
Unfinished Work: "rear quarter panels were not painted. still showing body filler" indicates incomplete work, which is unacceptable for a paid service.
Lack of Accountability and Communication: "Mike Reed (the owner) does not return calls. avoids this car, and will not stand behind his work" is a critical negative feature. This demonstrates a severe lack of customer service, professionalism, and integrity, especially when a significant amount of money ($15,000.00) was spent on the service.
High Cost of Remedial Work: The need for an "additional 10,000.00 to repair the areas and re paint the car" underscores the profound inadequacy of the initial work and the financial burden placed on the customer.
This detailed negative review provides a strong counterpoint to any general positive assumptions about the business, suggesting significant risks regarding quality and customer recourse.
Specific, formal promotional offers for Reed's Body Shop are not available through general online searches. Typically, body shops rely on a few key methods to attract business:
Word-of-Mouth: For a local business, referrals from satisfied customers are a primary driver. However, negative experiences, especially as detailed, can severely damage this channel.
Free Estimates: Most body shops offer complimentary estimates for collision repair or paint jobs, allowing potential customers to understand the scope and cost of the work. This serves as a key promotional tool.
Insurance Company Relationships: Body shops often work directly with various insurance companies, assisting customers with claims and ensuring a smoother repair process. Being on an insurance company's preferred vendor list can be a significant advantage.
Quality Assurance/Warranty: Reputable body shops typically offer a warranty on their parts and labor to provide customers with peace of mind. The negative review explicitly states that the owner "will not stand behind his work," indicating a severe lack of this crucial feature.
Given the significant concerns raised in the detailed customer review, any promotional efforts by Reed's Body Shop would likely need to address issues of quality, accountability, and customer trust. Potential customers are advised to exercise extreme caution and conduct thorough due diligence, including obtaining multiple estimates and reviewing other customer feedback, before considering services from Reed's Body Shop. For direct inquiries, you can call them at (270) 887-1604.

Reed's Body Shop Customer Reviews
in 2011 I had a 70 lincoln dropped off ready for primer, blocking, and paint. in sept, 2015. i had picked the car up expecting what was said to be done had been done. in the past 4 years the car has seen little day light. all body panels show waves and low spots( dents). The paint looks like orange peel. The Paint in the door jambs is not sticking. peeling off. the real deck seams the paint is cracking. there is a paint bubble, likely to be rust from poor metal prep. the doors do not line up with the jambs, the hood does not sit square. the paint chips very easily, mike reed was to touch up. he did, but the paint does not match. the affected areas looks like white out. the rear quarter panels were not painted. still showing body filler. I had spent $15,000.00 on this paint job. now Mike Reed ( the owner) does not return calls. avoids this car, and will not stand behind his work. I have brought this car to two other body shops for a estimate. it will cost an additional 10,000.00 to repair the areas and re paint the car.
