Muddy Mafia / D & S Automotive Introduce
Located at 551 Main St, Hudson, NC 28638, USA, Muddy Mafia / D & S Automotive operates as an Auto Repair Station serving the local community. For general inquiries and appointments, they can be reached at (828) 728-9900 or +1 828-728-9900. This establishment provides a range of automotive services, catering to various vehicle maintenance and repair needs.
Based on customer reviews, the environment at D & S Automotive presents a mixed picture. Some customers highlight a "pleasant customer area to sit & watch TV," indicating that efforts are made to provide a comfortable waiting space for clients. This suggests a potentially clean and organized reception area. Positive reviews also praise the staff as "nice folks to work with" and describe the service as "quick service, knowledgeable owner and staff." This points to an intended environment of professionalism and efficiency, aiming to get work done perfectly and at a reasonable price, as one reviewer mentioned.
However, other reviews raise significant concerns regarding the overall customer experience and the consistency of service. Feedback about staff becoming "very defensive" when issues are raised, and instances of mechanics "forgetting to put parts back on" or leaving "devices in my car," paint a picture of an environment where attention to detail and customer-centric problem-solving might be inconsistent. The mention of "not backing his work" and "making a mistake and not fixing it" or "fixing it and having you pay for their mistake" severely impacts the perceived trustworthiness of the environment. Furthermore, explicit complaints about the owner "not liking working on BMWs, Porsches, Volkswagens" and complaining when these cars are brought in, suggest a less than welcoming environment for owners of certain vehicle makes, which can deter potential customers.
As an Auto Repair Station, Muddy Mafia / D & S Automotive offers a broad spectrum of services to maintain and repair vehicles. Based on available information and typical offerings for such establishments, their services include:
- General Auto Repair and Maintenance: They handle various mechanical issues, as evidenced by a review where they "located leak as an oil cooling assembly" and replaced it. This indicates capabilities for diagnosing and fixing complex problems.
- Oil Changes: This is a standard service, with one review mentioning an "oil change was good."
- Tire Services: Their name includes "Tire," and other online sources confirm they offer tire services such as computer spin and road force balancing, TPMS service and adjustments, flat tire repairs, low-profile tire installations, and tire rotations. They also sell new tires from brands like Firestone, Hankook, and Falken.
- Brake Repairs: A common auto repair service essential for vehicle safety.
- Wheel Alignments: Necessary for proper vehicle handling and tire longevity.
- Transmission Repairs: Indicates more extensive mechanical repair capabilities.
- Electrical System Repairs: Addressing issues related to the vehicle's electrical components.
- Exhaust System Repairs: Including muffler and pipe repairs.
- Four-Wheel Drive System Repairs: Specializing in the maintenance and repair of 4x4 systems.
- State Inspections: A crucial service for vehicle compliance in North Carolina.
- Diagnostics: Utilizing equipment to identify and troubleshoot vehicle problems.
- Preventive Maintenance: Routine checks and services to prevent future breakdowns.
While they function as an auto parts store by integrating parts into their repair services, they primarily provide these parts for the work they perform rather than selling them as a standalone retail entity to DIY customers.
Muddy Mafia / D & S Automotive presents a mix of positive and concerning features:
- Timeliness of Repairs: One positive aspect highlighted is their ability to complete repairs "in a timely manner of two days" for a complex oil leak, suggesting efficiency in their workflow when operations run smoothly. They are also noted for "quick service" and "always done fast and right" in some positive reviews.
- Fair Pricing (Disputed): A customer found the repair cost "fair considering prices of parts and labor" for an oil cooling assembly. However, another customer’s experience of being charged for the shop's mistake suggests that fairness in pricing can be inconsistent.
- Knowledgeable Staff (Contradictory): Some reviews praise "knowledgeable owner and staff" and technicians who "really check to make sure all is in order." Conversely, the incident with Tyler, a "young and experienced mechanic," immediately becoming "defensive" and unwilling to "look at it and see what’s going on" when a customer expressed a concern about an overfilled oil, contradicts this.
- Customer Loyalty (Mixed): One reviewer states they have "been using them for several years" and "never was disappointed," indicating a history of consistent satisfaction for some. However, other long-term customers have decided to find a "new mechanic" due to issues like lack of accountability and poor customer treatment, showing a significant decline in loyalty for others.
- Inconsistent Workmanship and Accountability: This is a major concern. Multiple negative reviews consistently state that the shop "does not back his work," "does damage to your car and then they don’t fix it," and "don’t take responsibility for their mistakes." This directly contradicts the idea of a reliable auto repair station.
- Customer Treatment Issues: Negative reviews repeatedly mention "how the customer was treated" negatively, citing a lack of respect and unhelpful attitudes, particularly when problems arise. The owner's alleged complaints about working on certain car brands ("Oh no. Not something you wanna hear from a mechanic") contribute to this negative perception.
Based on the provided information, the value proposition of Muddy Mafia / D & S Automotive appears to be:
- Convenience and Speed: For routine services like oil changes and tire work, some customers have experienced quick and efficient service.
- Competitive Pricing (for some services): While disputed in cases of errors, some customers found their repair costs reasonable for specific jobs.
- Comprehensive Service Range: They offer a wide array of auto repair and tire services, making them a potential one-stop shop for various needs.
However, the significant volume of negative feedback concerning accountability, customer treatment, and the willingness to rectify mistakes poses a considerable challenge to their promotional efforts. For local users in Hudson, NC, considering Muddy Mafia / D & S Automotive, it's essential to weigh the positive experiences (timely repairs, some fair pricing, polite staff in certain instances) against the serious concerns about inconsistent service quality, lack of accountability for errors, and potentially disrespectful attitudes towards customers, particularly those with certain vehicle types. It is advisable for prospective customers to exercise caution and perhaps discuss their specific needs and expectations regarding warranty and service guarantees upfront before committing to major repairs, especially for European makes.

Vehicle had mystery oil leak. They located leak as an oil cooling assembly. Replaced unit and changed oil. All in a timely manner of two days. Repair cost fair considering prices of parts and labor. In short will return there in future and personally highly recommend 👌 👍

Does not back his work!!!!! I have been working with David for years. I’ve had a pretty good experience with him. He has forgotten to put parts back on my car they covered it went underneath the car at one time. Mechanics leave devices in my car so I have to go back and bring them back to them. I haven’t had my last experience with David and DNS automotive the service I had the other day when I got a oil change was good But when my car told me, I had too much oil I brought it back. He’s young and experienced mechanic. Tyler told me immediately I did not put too much oil in it. He got very defensive. When all I was looking for, was let me take a look at it and see what’s going on. I don’t need to hear excuses. after dealing with Tyler and not willing to fix the problem. I waited a day and call David. He said they could try and drain some of the oil but as we all know that would be difficult. Then he said he would charge me for the oil that he had to replace. i’ve worked a lot of places, and I’ve never heard of a place making a mistake and not fixing it. Or fixing it and having you pay for their mistake. Does not sound like very good business practice to me. I do hope everybody takes caution and bringing their vehicles to DNS he does not like working on BMWs. Porsches Volkswagens he complained whenever I brought my car in. Oh no. Not something you wanna hear from a mechanic that’s going to work on your car. At this time I’ve decided to find a new mechanic someone that is going to be reliable and have employees that are respectful to their customers. I’ve just got done reading a bunch of reviews and all the reviews that are negative. Say something about the way the customer was treated and also how the work at DNS is never backed. They do damage to your car and then they don’t fix it. They do come back very apologetic, acting as though they want to fix it. There is right and wrong in life. What they do to people it’s just wrong they cheat them out of their money. Don’t fix the problems that they have created and don’t take responsibility for their mistakes. Sounds like a former president.

I'm very grateful for automative places such as D&S. It's not often that you find a shop that is transparent as they can be about services needed on your car. Thank you, Tonya, for your pleasant greeting and making me feel welcome. David and team, thanks for finding out what was wrong with my vehicle and fixing it. This has been an overall great, full of ease experience which is not often said when your car messes up and the cost could be phenomenal...but D&S is very reasonable with prices and they give a MILITARY DISCOUNT. Thanks once again, I will recommend and return for all my car needs. *After getting an estimate on a different issue with D&S...I realized that I may have been overcharged for the previous issue above. Although the customer service is good...I will start getting more estimates for my car service needs now instead of the automatic yes I gave to D&S

horrible experience, took my boyfriends car there without a oil leak and was returned with a major oil leak took it back and had to pay a lot of money to fix it only for the following day for the car engine to seize and stop working. when called the place, they said not their problem and I have no way of proving they messed up my Toyota Camry engine.very upset as now I dont have a car. Don’t take your car here unless you want to pay out the nose for things that they mess up.

I have been using D&S for my 2007 Honda Civic for 5+ years. Tires, battery and tune up. 6 months ago they replaced the window motor & regulate control on the front passenger window. It failed again two days ago. I made an appointment and the parts were replaced at no charge to me. They told me they would collect parts & labor from the parts seller. They are a family business run by Tanya - she is a very fair & reliable manager. If you are really lucky "Bella" the dog will be present - so I always carry a large Milk Bone dog biscuit.
