Based on the provided customer reviews and general understanding of establishments categorized as "Auto Repair Stations," Mike's Service Center offers services primarily focused on vehicle maintenance and repair. The reviews specifically highlight:
- Tire Sales and Installation: Customers have purchased and had tires installed at Mike's Service Center. This indicates that the facility stocks or can order tires and possesses the equipment and expertise for their mounting and balancing.
- Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Services: The reviews extensively mention issues related to TPMS sensors during tire installation. This indicates that Mike's Service Center performs work on these systems, which are crucial for modern vehicle safety and compliance. TPMS sensors are integral to vehicle safety, alerting drivers to under-inflated tires. Their installation and calibration require specialized tools and knowledge.
While the provided information is limited to these specific services, typical auto repair stations often provide a broader range of services, which might include:
- Oil changes and routine maintenance
- Brake inspections and repairs
- Diagnostic services for engine lights and other warning indicators
- Suspension and steering repairs
- Battery testing and replacement
- Fluid checks and top-offs
However, based strictly on the provided customer feedback, the focus is heavily on tire-related services, specifically installation, and the associated TPMS systems.
The customer reviews paint a specific picture of the customer experience at Mike's Service Center, particularly concerning tire installation and TPMS sensor handling. The salient features and aspects of customer experience, as described, include:
- Issues with TPMS Sensor Damage: A recurring problem reported by customers is the breaking of multiple wheel (TPMS) sensors during tire installation. This is a significant concern as TPMS sensors are delicate components that, when damaged, can lead to dashboard warning lights and potentially unsafe driving conditions. The cost of replacing these sensors can also be considerable for the customer.
- Use of "Knockoff" Replacement Parts: In an attempt to rectify the damaged sensors, the shop reportedly used "knockoff" (non-OEM or generic) replacement parts. The consequence, as described by the customer, was that these replacement sensors failed to function correctly, causing the sensor lights to reappear on the dashboard after a short drive. This suggests potential issues with the quality of replacement parts used or the accuracy of their installation/programming.
- Customer Dissatisfaction and Additional Costs: The customer's experience culminated in frustration and dissatisfaction due to the ongoing issues and the need to seek resolution elsewhere. The reported additional cost of $300+ at a Toyota dealership to correctly replace the sensors highlights the financial burden and inconvenience incurred by the customer due to the initial service issues at Mike's Service Center.
- Perceived Negligence: The customer explicitly mentions "negligence" on the part of Mike's, indicating a strong sentiment of disappointment and a perception that due care was not taken during the service process.
The consistent nature of the negative reviews regarding TPMS issues following tire installation points to a potential systemic problem in this specific area of service at Mike's Service Center. Positive aspects of customer service or successful repairs are not detailed in the provided information.
Based on the available information, there is no explicit promotional material for Mike's Service Center. Any self-promotion would need to directly address the critical issues raised in customer reviews to rebuild trust. For local users considering Mike's Service Center, the following points are derived from the objective information:
- Consider for Tire Purchases/Installation (with Caution): Mike's Service Center does sell and install tires. However, prospective customers should be aware of the reported issues concerning TPMS sensor damage during installation and the use of potentially incompatible or faulty replacement parts.
- Verify TPMS Sensor Handling: If considering Mike's Service Center for tire services, it would be prudent for customers to inquire specifically about their process for handling and protecting TPMS sensors, as well as their policy for replacing damaged sensors with OEM or equivalent quality parts.
- Request Clear Policies on Rectification: Customers might benefit from clear communication regarding how the shop addresses any issues or damages that occur during service, including guarantees on parts and labor, and policies for reimbursement for subsequent repairs needed elsewhere.
- Seek Alternative Quotes for Sensitive Components: For services involving delicate electronic components like TPMS sensors, it might be advisable to obtain quotes and service descriptions from multiple auto repair stations to compare their procedures and reputations.
In conclusion, Mike's Service Center in Johnstown, NY, offers tire sales and installation services, along with TPMS system work. However, the provided customer reviews indicate significant challenges with the quality of tire installation, specifically concerning TPMS sensor damage and subsequent ineffective repairs, leading to customer dissatisfaction and additional expenses. Prospective customers should proceed with caution and thorough inquiry.

Bought 4 tires from Mike. He installed them breaking 3 wheel sensors. Tried to fix them by replacing them with 3 knockoffs and after driving 10 miles the sensor lights came on my dashboard. Upset and having enough with his negligence, I went to Toyota and had them replaced costing me another $300+. No more lights. Won't be going back to Mikes.

Mike was always good , fair and honest...until he wasn't. I dropped my vehicle off to be repaired. When I heard nothing from him, I called. He proceeded to tell me that he didn't want to work on my car anymore because he was 65 and it was too difficult. I have no issue with that. What I do take issue with is that he was very rude and would have just left me waiting until I called. He could always be rude but I was ok with it. But, he crossed a line and was completely unprofessional. That's the truth and I stand by it. Would never recommend him to anyone..which is a shame because he is fair and competent.
