Took my car in out of desperation. That was a mistake in hindsight. The jury is still out on if the work was done right, as my car now makes a persistent high pitch whining noise which doesn't change with speed or RPM, so it's not a belt, but could maybe be a bearing or perhaps there's a vacuum line that is disconnected. Anyway, they didn't call me when they needed to add a part and increase my repair cost by $300. No, they just did the work and then when I complained, said it needed to be done in the interest of time. They had the car for two full weeks. I called to check on the progress after I approved the quote which was just about $1000. They said the parts had come in and the mechanic was working on the car, but it would be a few more days. So, in the interest of time, they took 3 days to do a 4 hour job and sad they needed to rush for some reason and didn't have the time to get my authorization. The part they replaced which they quoted me $280 extra for, it turns out it is widely available and is $47 OEM from the dealership. These guys took me to the cleaners. If I had the chance to go back in time, I'd tell myself to just ride my bike and take the car to some other trusted mechanic, instead of this place. Just don't go there. Save yourself the money, time, haggling, and feelings of being cheated.

My steering wheel was vibrating like crazy when I went above 60 mph and the first place I took it told me I needed 3 separate repairs that totaled $2400. I took it to Lei’s for a second opinion and they just balanced the tires for $120 and I just took it on the highway and it was fixed. Could’ve easily tried to scam me but didn’t.

TLDR: They did work on my car without my authorization so I had no choice but to pay. Full story: My car wouldn’t start so I had it towed in. They told me I needed a full tune up and oil change for $800. I knew this was not the problem so I declined the work. Then they called back and said actually they hadn’t realized it wasn’t starting and actually it was a gunked up fuel injector, which they had already fixed and it took 2 hours of labor, so I could either pay for that repair or they could “undo the work,” saying they still had the gunk around. They said if I didn’t want to pay for the work they had already done then they would put the gunk back in. (They we’re threatening to mess up my car on purpose.) They acknowledged that they should not have done any work without my authorization. I was able to negotiate the labor cost down to 1.5 hours instead of 2. How did they come up with their original diagnosis? They must not have tried to start the engine before coming up with that or they would have noticed that the car didn’t start. What I learned was if you bring your car here they might start working without asking first, and you will have to pay whatever they ask or they will damage your car.

This place was mismanaged and dishonest. Avoid at all costs! I made an appointment for service, and at the time of the appointment they said they didn't have time to do it. They were so dishonest . They tried to rip me off with all the junk services.

I've been going to Lei's for 20 years. I am an engineer. When I was younger, I took cars apart for fun and to save money. These Lei's Auto guys in general know what they are doing and are in the top 10% of auto repair places in terms of knowing how to diagnose problems and fixing them at a reasonable price. Mr. Lei sets the tone for this place -- do it right, do it quickly, be smart. Learn. Do. Engage. Straight talk with customer. The people here who say "they do free work on stuff" are correct. Here's an example. I have a 2001 Toyota Corolla with stick I love to drive. They replaced the entire brakeline system (rusted out). Now, perfect brakes. I pull out of the place at 5:30 and headlight is out. I drive back into the entrance and explain. Within 3 minutes, there are three guys working on the problem, they take the front covers and light assembly out with special know-how and tools. They find some connector that needs shining up a little. Ten minutes later. Light is on. I drive out of the place. That was a year ago. If you have some sort of crazy problem on your 2019 Mercedes Benz climate control system, maybe not the place for special cars. But for regular cars with regular type problems, this is your place. American can-do attitude from the old school.
