Jonesborough Transmission Specialists & Auto Repair Introduce

Jonesborough Transmission Specialists & Auto Repair, located at 1404 Persimmon Ridge Rd A-2, Jonesborough, TN 37659, USA, operates within the

Auto Repair Stations

category. As their name explicitly states, this business specializes in transmission services, a complex and critical aspect of vehicle mechanics, but also extends its expertise to general auto repair. For local users in Jonesborough, TN, this establishment aims to be a comprehensive solution for both routine maintenance and more intricate automotive issues, particularly those related to the powertrain. However, an objective introduction requires acknowledging both highly positive customer experiences and significant concerns raised by others, particularly regarding communication and diagnostic fees.

The

environment

of Jonesborough Transmission Specialists & Auto Repair would typically be that of a dedicated auto repair facility. This implies a garage setting with multiple service bays, equipped with lifts, diagnostic tools, and specialized equipment necessary for both general automotive work and the highly specific nature of transmission repair. Cleanliness and organization are generally important in such environments to ensure efficient work and vehicle safety. The waiting area for customers would likely offer basic amenities. The reviews offer a glimpse into the operational environment, showcasing efficient work ("completed the repairs & changed oil same day and hours before closing") which points to a well-managed shop floor. The positive mention of "kind & helpful" staff like Ian and Derik contributes to a welcoming customer environment. However, the negative review describing a period of "two and a half weeks with no work being done" due to a "family emergency" suggests that while the physical environment may be adequate, external factors or internal scheduling can impact the service delivery timeline. The shop's location on Persimmon Ridge Rd suggests a setting that is accessible for vehicles needing repair, likely in a commercial or industrial area of Jonesborough.

Jonesborough Transmission Specialists & Auto Repair offers a range of

services

, with a strong emphasis on their namesake specialization, transmissions, but also covering general auto repair. Based on the provided reviews, their services include:
  • Transmission Repair and Replacement:

This is their core competency, as indicated by their name. A satisfied customer noted that they "replaced the transmission for my husband's 2002 gmc sierra in past & did a great job. It's still running strong." This suggests they handle complex transmission overhauls and replacements, a critical service for many vehicles.
  • Brake Pad/Rotor Replacement:

One review specifically mentioned addressing "back break pads/rotors that sounded like needed replacement." This indicates they perform common brake services, essential for vehicle safety.
  • Serpentine Belt Replacement:

The shop was tasked with repairing a "noisy serpentine belt," showing they handle accessory drive system maintenance.
  • Oil Changes:

A routine maintenance service performed by the shop, as mentioned in a review.
  • Electrical Diagnostics:

A customer brought in a car with "ELECTRICAL ISSUES with the throttle." While the outcome was contentious in this specific instance, it indicates they undertake diagnostic work for complex electrical problems.
  • General Auto Repair:

While transmissions are their specialty, the "Auto Repair" in their name and the other services mentioned (brakes, oil change, belts) confirm they handle a broader spectrum of automotive issues.
It is important to note the conflicting information regarding diagnostic fees. One customer claims the owner mentions a $79.95 diagnostic cost in a review, while another was charged significantly more ($250, then $150) for a diagnosis without work being performed, leading to a strong accusation of "scammer" behavior. This discrepancy highlights a potential lack of clear and consistent communication regarding pricing for diagnostic services.

Several

features

characterize Jonesborough Transmission Specialists & Auto Repair, with both positive attributes and significant areas for concern. A key positive feature is their

proven expertise in transmission repair

. The longevity and continued strength of a previously replaced transmission in a customer's GMC Sierra serve as a strong testament to their technical proficiency in this specialized field. Another positive feature is the

courteous and helpful nature of some staff members

, with Ian and Derik specifically being praised for being "kind & helpful" and offering a ride, which contributes to a positive customer experience when interactions are smooth. The shop also demonstrates

efficiency in completing repairs

for agreed-upon services, as the brake and oil change work was "completed ... same day and hours before closing," which is valuable for customers needing their vehicle back quickly. The mention of "Very fair pricing for work provided" in a positive context also suggests a commitment to competitive and transparent pricing for completed services. However, a highly concerning feature is the

inconsistent and potentially misleading communication regarding diagnostic fees and service charges for uncompleted work

. The discrepancy between a stated $79.95 diagnostic fee and a charge of $150-$250 for a car where "NO WORK WAS DONE" (beyond pulling error codes) is a critical issue. This lack of upfront, clear communication about costs, especially for diagnostics or if a repair cannot be completed, can severely erode customer trust and lead to accusations of dishonest practices. While the shop might have legitimate reasons for diagnostic fees (mechanic time, specialized equipment), failing to communicate these clearly and consistently is a major drawback. The delay of "two and a half weeks with no work being done" due to a "family emergency" also highlights potential issues with communication regarding delays and managing customer expectations when unforeseen circumstances arise.

For

promotional information

, Jonesborough Transmission Specialists & Auto Repair faces the challenge of highlighting their technical strengths while addressing past communication issues. Promotional strategies could focus on:
  • Emphasizing Transmission Expertise:

Clearly promote their specialization in transmission repair, showcasing success stories like the long-lasting GMC Sierra transmission. "Jonesborough's Transmission Experts: Specializing in reliable rebuilds and replacements that last."
  • Highlighting General Auto Repair Capabilities:

Advertise their competence in common services like brakes, oil changes, and belt replacements, emphasizing prompt and fair service for these items. "Comprehensive Auto Care: From routine oil changes to crucial brake repairs, we keep you safe on the road."
  • Showcasing Positive Testimonials:

Feature reviews that praise "kind & helpful" staff, "fair pricing for work provided," and quick turnaround for completed repairs.
  • Addressing Transparency and Communication (Crucial):

To rebuild trust and prevent future negative experiences, they must explicitly state their diagnostic fees upfront. A promotional statement could be: "Transparent Diagnostics: We provide clear, upfront pricing for all diagnostic services before any work begins. Ask about our $XX.XX diagnostic fee." Or, if they have changed their policy, clearly state the new approach.
  • Meet the Team:

Featuring staff like Ian and Derik (with their permission) could personalize the service and build rapport, as positive interactions with these individuals were highlighted.
  • Service Guarantees:

If applicable, offering a warranty on transmission work or general repairs could instill confidence in potential customers.
  • Online Presence:

Ensuring their contact information ((423) 788-9258 and +1 423-788-9258) and address (1404 Persimmon Ridge Rd A-2, Jonesborough, TN 37659, USA) are easily accessible on a professional website and local directories. A website could also feature a clear service menu with pricing guidelines for common diagnostics and repairs.
Given the stark contrast in customer experiences, transparency and consistent communication about costs and service timelines will be paramount for Jonesborough Transmission Specialists & Auto Repair to attract and retain customers in the long term.

Jonesborough Transmission Specialists & Auto Repair Customer Reviews

My sons car had some ELECTRICAL ISSUES with the throttle and was not drivable so we had it towed here. At no time when we spoke to the owner did he mention any costs to diagnose the vehicle or a charge to have his mechanic look at the vehicle. I noticed that in one reviews on here the owner mentions that the cost to diagnose a vehicle is $79.95. Ok, we would have agreed to that if he told us that. However after two and a half weeks with no work being done (his mechanic had a family emergency) on the vehicle we needed to take it somewhere else to get it fixed as we couldn't wait any longer. However, when we went get the keys to the vehicle and have it TOWED AGAIN, the owner tells us we owed him $250!!!!! NO WORK WAS DONE ON THE VEHICLE!!! He claims his mechanic spent two hours on the car, but yet the only things listed on the invoice are error codes that you get when you hook the car up to a diagnosis computer. THAT TAKES 2 HOURS???? After arguing with him he went down on the price to $150. AGAIN, NO WORK WAS DONE ON THIS VEHICLE. So how does this owner charge one person $79.95 for a diagnosis and then charge us $150 (originally $250)???? This owner is a scammer. Beware!

Ian & Derik were both kind & helpful. I was told they could check & repair my 2016 toyota sienna van's back break pads/rotors that sounded like needed replacement(loud metal scraping sound with breaking), along with a noisy serpentine belt, and change oil, all on an upcoming day. They even offered me a ride within close distance, if needed. Brought it in on date of agreement. As promised, they completed the repairs & changed oil same day and hours before closing(appreciated this so I had my vehicle back for the weekend). Very fair pricing for work provided. They also replaced the transmission for my husband's 2002 gmc sierra in past & did a great job. It's still running strong. Thank you all!

I'd like some advice/opinions on an issue. I have a 1998 Ford Ranger and it needed a clutch and slave cylinder. I was referred to Jonesborough Transmission who told me $1,200. They've had my truck for 3 weeks. I got a call from them today stating my truck is finished and the total is $1,638!!! They said they had to put some kind of kit on it and a starter. Nothing was wrong with the starter when I left it..no one bothered to even call to ask or let me know it needed more nor that it was going to cost more!! They said it had the original starter and that it was easy to break the bolt since it was so old. Should I NOT be pissed over this or did I expect too much to pay the $1,200 original statement? Was it too much to expect at least a call before adding charges for something and fixing something that WASN'T broken when I left it?

Told them I only wanted it scanned to find out what was wrong so I could decide if I should have it fixed. They found a way to make that cost me over $850, that I didn't have at the time. By the time I was called my vehicle was on the lift with the pan off and the oil gone. I was told I needed wire harness but by the time I arrived with a new one it was miraculously fixed, and I was told how much I owed. COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL

Some of these reviews sound eerily close to my experience with this business. I wont go into great detail here, yet, as I am taking this business to court. I will post a rather long explanation after the court date. $3,300 and 3 days after I drove out of this business and I cant drive my 1966 Mustang. MORE TO COME!! What you see below is his typical response, telling eveyone how honest and reliable they are....like I said more to come!! I took my car in to get a hydraulic clutch bled...which they were not capable of doing..they convinced me to let them convert it to a mechanical clutch. They simply did not have the expertise to do the job...end of story. I will take my car to a professional let them repair it..if in there opinion it was this business's fault we are going to court with an expert witness.....BEWARE RUN FROM THIS PLACE!! There are plenty of reliable transmission shops out there. 23% of the reviews on this page are at 2 stars or less....go ahead count them. Does that sound reliable to you? NO I will not attack this business owner personally as he is trying to do to me. AGAIN....$3,300 with a "transmission specialist" and it wont pull away from a red light!
