Hi Auto Repair Introduce

Located at 2820 Midway Dr, San Diego, CA 92110, USA, Hi Auto Repair operates as an "Auto Repair Station" within the San Diego community. You can reach them at (619) 223-0998 or via mobile at +1 619-223-0998. This establishment's reputation, as reflected in recent customer feedback, presents a nuanced picture, indicating a significant change in service quality and customer experience.

The environment at Hi Auto Repair, based on the provided customer reviews, has seemingly undergone a transformation. Previous patrons speak fondly of an era when "Hi" was at the helm, implying a trustworthy, fair, and competent service environment. However, recent experiences describe a less reliable and more concerning atmosphere. One customer reported a situation where their car was kept for four days for a computer diagnostic related to a check engine light, yet the diagnostic was never performed. This suggests a disorganized or opaque operational environment. The unsettling detail of finding front wheels removed without explanation further contributes to a sense of unease and a lack of transparency in the shop's current working environment.

The services that Hi Auto Repair *aims* to provide, characteristic of an "Auto Repair Station," would typically include diagnostics, general maintenance, and various repairs. Historically, under the previous management ("Hi"), the shop was praised for doing "a great job" on a range of repairs, including those related to check engine lights. However, current customer experiences indicate a significant breakdown in the delivery of these services. One review explicitly mentions requesting a "computer diagnostic" for a "check engine light," a fundamental service for modern vehicles, which was reportedly not carried out despite the car being held for an extended period.

Another customer attempted to get a quote for a non-urgent repair, providing all necessary vehicle information, but received no follow-up call, despite being told that "his guys were looking into it." This suggests issues with basic customer service and quote provision, crucial aspects of an auto repair business. While the website for Hi Auto Repair (which appears to be owned by Julie Huynh) lists services such as smog checks, general auto repair, and prides itself on being a NAPA Auto Care center that pledges to "Perform high-quality diagnostic and repair services at a fair price, using quality NAPA parts" and "Employ ASE-certified technicians," the recent customer reviews directly contradict these stated commitments. This creates a considerable discrepancy between their self-promotion and current client experiences.

Key features, both positive and negative, emerge from the customer feedback. Historically, a significant feature was the presence and personal service of "Hi," who was known for being "very fair" and doing "a great job." This personal touch and trust built a loyal customer base. The longevity of the business (established in 1995, with a change of ownership in 2005 to Mr. Hai Van Huynh, who is possibly the "Hi" referred to) might also be seen as a feature of stability, though the recent reviews suggest this stability has been compromised for some.

However, the recent reviews highlight troubling current features:

  • Lack of Communication: The inability to get callbacks for quotes and updates, and the general feeling of being "lied" to, indicate a severe deficiency in customer communication.
  • Unexplained Delays and Actions: Holding a car for multiple days for a diagnostic that was not performed, and the odd removal of front wheels for a computer scan, point to unprofessionalism and a lack of transparency.
  • Loss of Trust: The sentiment "I don't believe a word he says" and the explicit statement "I won't go back unless Hi comes back" underscore a significant erosion of customer trust under the current operational style.
  • Inconsistent Service Delivery: The discrepancy between the previous positive experiences and the recent negative ones suggests a marked decline in consistent quality and customer care.

While the business website may promote certifications like NAPA Auto Care and ASE-certified technicians, the real-world experiences from recent customers cast doubt on whether these standards are consistently being met in practice.

Regarding promotional information, the current negative customer reviews do not provide any explicit promotional offers. Any promotional material previously offered or found on their older website, such as pledges of "Best Cheap Mechanic" or "no extra fees," would need to be viewed with caution in light of the recent critical feedback. While businesses often promote themselves based on affordability or speed, the customer accounts suggest that these aspects, if still advertised, are not reliably delivered. Customers seeking service would be well-advised to inquire directly about pricing and service guarantees, and perhaps seek recent local recommendations to gauge the current operational standard before committing to any repairs at this location. The most compelling "promotion" for any auto repair shop is consistent, trustworthy service, which, based on recent reviews, appears to be an area of concern for Hi Auto Repair.

In conclusion, Hi Auto Repair at 2820 Midway Dr, San Diego, CA, presents a challenging scenario for potential customers. While it historically enjoyed a strong reputation due to the perceived fairness and competence of "Hi," recent customer experiences highlight significant issues with communication, transparency, and the delivery of promised services. The reports of unperformed diagnostics, unexplained actions, and a general lack of trust indicate a concerning shift in the shop's operational quality. Prospective users are strongly advised to exercise caution and thoroughly investigate current customer feedback and perhaps other local alternatives before entrusting their vehicle to this particular "Auto Repair Station."

Hi Auto Repair Customer Reviews

I used to love Hi Auto repair. Hi did a great job and was very fair. BUT... I don't think Hi is there anymore. I'm not a fan of the new guy. I don't believe a word he says. I took my car in to run the computer and see what the check engine light was about. He kept my car for 4 days and never even ran the computer diagnostic. I finally just showed up and took my car back. Weirdly, my front wheels were off when I got there. Why? To run a computer? It just seemed very odd. I can't imagine what they were doing to my car. I won't go back unless Hi comes back.

I called to get a quote. The guy asked for all of the vehicle info. Told him what I needed done and that it was not a rush and not too serious. Just wanted to get it done before it got bad. He lied and said his guys were looking in to it. He never called back.

I have been taking cars here for 20 years. George and his team are honest and get the job done right at a fair price. Thanks for keeping my cars on the road.
