Gable's Machine & Engine Shop Customer Reviews

First and last time customer. Gable resurfaced two Chevy Gen 1 small block heads and reassembled one with new valve stem seals. When I installed the seals on the other head they wouldn't go on - checked the part number on the box and see they're the wrong ID. I took apart the other head and found all of the valve seals were mangled, not fully installed, and most were visually different. Whoever did this either doesn't know about the world's most common V8 or doesn't care. Unacceptable.

These guys just finished up a 360 mopar for me and the work was great. About a month turn around and fair prices. Absolutely recommend!

This place is the best! Rick is very friendly, customer-service oriented, and delivers results. I took my 302 in for lots of work; main hone, bore and hone, and had them build my GT40 heads with parts that I supplied. My last build I even had him assemble the short block and it runs like a champ. Thank you Gable's!

I took in a rotating assembly, new crank, connecting rods, pistons, harmonic balancer assembly and flywheel to have balanced - after being charged an extra sixty five dollars that was not in the quote I inspected all the components and noticed no signs of any of the components either being lightened or weight being added to them, especially the rods that were all 8 to 15 grams apart! after weighing the rods they were still at the original weighing I had did and the floating pistons were never installed on the rods and the components were never matched together or labeled for assembly. When I questioned the owner about my concerns and the over pricing from the quote he gave me he stated that he has never had any complaints and I was mistaken at the price I was quoted, unfortunately he also could not point out any of the machining work he had done on any of the components I brought back to him. I am an ASE certified technician for fourteen years and know what to look for so its pretty apparent that nothing was done to these components and charged over $220 dollars for nothing. I took everything to R&R Machine in akron and paid more but atleast it was apparent the work was actually performed and the engine runs smoothly with no vibration on or off idle.

Poor quality work and damage to rare castings at top dollar. I'm not certain what happened but this used to be a good shop. Family, friends and even other shops I've worked for have all used Gables for 20plus years. After my last few experiences I can no longer trust them.

Gables is not the gables that once was. Took my engine parts here for cleaning with head and block work. Upon getting these parts back I noticed that parts were not cleaned throughly. When I called them about parts not being clean, I asked about other work and discovered that the heads were only cleaned ( poorly ). They did not do the requested head work, so I took everything back. They cleaned things up better this time around and stated heads were good to go. Assembled engine and started up to the sound of a diesel engine. Removed the heads and took them back. Owner tells me that the valve clearance was set on a high tight side and that he would personally fix this. He also said he would replace gasket set and head bolts for the inconveniences. Few days later I picked up the heads, gasket set, and head bolts. On my way back I noticed the gasket set and head bolts were for a 2.2L. My engine is a 3.2L. Now I am curious and started inspecting heads to find the cam caps loose, and that the valves were so tight there was some that never closed to seat. I was told they were ready to bolt on, good to go. So, I sent them off to another machine for inspection. Sure enough valves were still set on the high tight side. This new machine shop also stated that had I installed these heads and let them warm up, I would have bent a valve for sure. I had to pay to have them set right. I would not recommend wasting your time at Gables. Going here has cost me more time and money. Hours in labor removing the heads for reinstall. Not to mention had I trusted them after the owner personally went through the heads, I would have had completely trashed the heads with potential damage to pistons, which would have costed even more time and money. Do not trust this place. Find another machine shop.
