Funderburk Batteries Introduce

Funderburk Batteries, located at 1625 Poarch Rd, Lincolnton, NC 28092, USA, falls under the broad category of "Auto Repair Stations" due to its provision of essential vehicle components, specifically batteries, and related services. While not a traditional repair garage, the availability of car batteries, a critical auto part, and the associated services like exchange and recycling, firmly place it within this category. Their contact numbers are (704) 735-4166 for phone and +1 704-735-4166 for mobile, allowing direct communication for their specialized offerings.

The environment of Funderburk Batteries, as described by customer reviews, appears to be functional and geared towards the core business of battery sales and recycling. One customer notes that the "driveway is a giant mud hole full of metal and other things to puncture your tires," which suggests a more utilitarian, possibly industrial, setting rather than a pristine retail environment. This description implies a focus on practicality and efficiency over aesthetic polish. For customers visiting, the experience might be primarily transactional, revolving around the quick exchange or purchase of batteries. The operational hours are Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM, and Saturday from 10 AM to 2 PM, with Sunday closed. This consistent schedule allows customers to plan their visits. The environment is one where the primary focus is on the inventory and handling of batteries, including their recycling, which often involves a less polished space due to the nature of the materials handled. The overall atmosphere, while not explicitly described as inviting by all, is centered around a no-frills, direct-to-customer service model for battery needs.

Funderburk Batteries primarily offers services and goods related to automotive and other types of batteries. Their core offerings include:

  • Sale of Rebuilt/Reconditioned Batteries: This is a significant aspect of their business, providing a more affordable alternative to brand-new batteries. Customers can purchase batteries that have been restored to working condition, with one customer noting a reconditioned battery lasted "11 years." This service caters to individuals seeking cost-effective solutions for their vehicle's power needs.
  • Battery Core Exchange/Recycling: They facilitate the recycling of old batteries, often offering a core charge or payment per pound for used car and even lawnmower batteries. This aligns with environmental responsibility and provides a convenient disposal method for customers. One review mentions receiving "28 cents per pound" for old car batteries, which was double what a "local" recycler was paying, indicating a competitive recycling rate.
  • Battery Testing: While one customer expressed concern about the lack of a meter check at the point of sale and no receipt, the standard practice for battery suppliers includes testing batteries to ensure they are in good working order. The employee's statement "it was checked back there" suggests an internal testing process, even if not performed in front of the customer.
  • Sale of Batteries for Various Applications: While reviews specifically mention car and lawnmower batteries, it's reasonable to infer they would cater to a range of vehicle types, including pickup trucks, as implied by a customer's purchase.
Their service model appears to be "in-store shopping," with mention of "delivery" and "same-day delivery" as options, which can be convenient for customers who require quick access to batteries but cannot visit in person. They also note "quick visit" as a service option, highlighting efficiency.

The features that define Funderburk Batteries are largely centered around affordability and the niche market of reconditioned batteries.

  • Cost-Effectiveness: The primary draw for many customers is the significantly lower price of a reconditioned battery compared to a new one, as highlighted by one customer saving "$100.00 on a truck battery, compared to local auto parts store." This appeals to budget-conscious consumers.
  • Longevity of Reconditioned Batteries: A standout feature, as attested by a customer, is the potential for reconditioned batteries to last for an extended period, with one instance of an 11-year lifespan. This suggests that their reconditioning process can yield very durable products.
  • Competitive Recycling Rates: Offering a higher payout for old batteries (28 cents per pound vs. a local competitor's rate) is a strong incentive for customers to recycle their batteries at this location.
  • Core Exchange Program: The core exchange system simplifies the process of disposing of old batteries while reducing the upfront cost of the reconditioned unit.
  • Specialization: By focusing primarily on batteries, they likely possess a deep understanding of battery types, reconditioning processes, and common issues, offering specialized knowledge that might not be available at general auto parts stores.
  • Accessibility: The provision of phone and mobile numbers, along with listed operating hours, ensures that customers can reach them for their battery needs. Service options include in-store shopping, delivery, same-day delivery, and wheelchair accessibility, emphasizing ease of access for diverse clientele.
However, it's also important to acknowledge features that, according to some customer experiences, could be areas for improvement, such as perceived inconsistency in pricing and the lack of a physical receipt or on-site meter check for immediate verification of battery status.

For promotional information, Funderburk Batteries would likely emphasize its key advantages to local users in Lincolnton and surrounding areas. While specific current promotions are not explicitly detailed, common strategies based on their business model and customer feedback could include:

  • Highlighting Cost Savings: Promoting the significant price difference between their reconditioned batteries and new ones from "chain" stores would be a central marketing message. Phrases like "Save money on your next battery!" or "Affordable power for your vehicle" would be effective.
  • Emphasizing Longevity: Showcasing testimonials (like the 11-year battery life) or general statistics about the durability of their reconditioned batteries could build trust and counter skepticism about used products.
  • Competitive Recycling Payouts: Advertising their higher rates for battery recycling, positioning themselves as the go-to place for responsible and profitable disposal of old batteries.
  • **"Green" Aspect:** Promoting the environmental benefits of purchasing reconditioned batteries and recycling old ones, appealing to eco-conscious consumers.
  • No-Hassle Exchange: Marketing the simplicity of their core exchange program.
  • Local and Independent Business Appeal: Positioning themselves as a local, specialized alternative to larger chain stores, which can resonate with customers who prefer supporting small businesses.
  • Express Service: Highlighting their "quick visit" option and same-day delivery for urgent battery needs.
  • Clear Pricing Communication: To address past customer concerns, proactive communication about pricing policies and ensuring receipts are provided for all transactions would enhance customer confidence and potentially feature in future promotional messaging for transparency.
Funderburk Batteries serves a niche but essential role in the auto repair ecosystem by offering a sustainable and economical alternative for vehicle power, alongside responsible battery recycling services for the Lincolnton community.

Funderburk Batteries Customer Reviews

Easy transaction. $35 + exchange/core and I had a rebuilt/reconditioned battery for my vehicle. The last one lasted 11 years! Try to beat that from a "chain"! I also recycled several old car batteries for 28 cents per pound... Double what the "local" recycler is paying today.

Seems like everytime I come here the price changes. Depends on who gets your battery I guess. When I started coming a trade in battery was 25$. I looked at the reviews and read where everyone said 35$ , I traded in a lawn mower battery last summer for 30$. Just today I got charged 40$ for a regular old pick up truck battery. When I asked the guy when the prices increased ,he said it's been 40$ for the past 3 years. I shrugged and said ok. When he brought my battery up I asked him if he could put a meter on it. He said "it was checked back there" and " it's good for 90 days ,bring it back if it fails." Ok ,good luck with that since there is no receipt. I can imagine bringing this battery back next week and being told to leave. When I can buy a brand new battery for 50$ and up, what is the use of this place? A 50$ battery may be off brand but it is backed by a hassle free guarantee, in writing. So I have officially stopped using these guys and reccommending them to people. If everytime I try and get a used battery these guys get ruder and more expensive. Plus their driveway is a giant mud hole full of metal and other things to puncture your tires.

Very nice and honest. 馃槂 They tested our battery to make sure we needed one. We only paid 35 for a refurbished battery and it works just fine. I would go back and I recommend them instead of paying over $100 for one. It鈥檚 out in the country but totally worth the drive.
