Frohriep Auto Body Introduce
Welcome to Frohriep Auto Body, located at 26665 US-12 in Sturgis, MI 49091. As a part of the "Auto Repair Stations" platform category, Frohriep Auto Body offers collision repair and auto body services to local users in Sturgis and the surrounding areas. Auto body shops specialize in repairing damage to a vehicle's body, often resulting from accidents, and typically include services like dent removal, painting, and frame straightening. Based on the available customer reviews, experiences with Frohriep Auto Body appear to be varied, with some customers reporting significant issues while at least one had a positive outcome.
Details about the specific environment of Frohriep Auto Body are not provided in the customer reviews. However, one might expect a standard auto body shop setting with areas for vehicle assessment, bodywork repair, painting, and potentially vehicle storage. The cleanliness and organization of the shop are not mentioned in the reviews, so no objective assessment of these aspects can be made based on the provided information.
The services offered by Frohriep Auto Body, as indicated by the customer reviews, include:
- Collision repair services to address damage from accidents.
- Auto body work, including dent and scrape repair.
- Painting services, including full panel painting and potentially touch-ups.
- Adhesive removal related to body trim.
- Wheel well repair and painting/coating.
However, the quality and execution of these services, according to the reviews, are inconsistent. One customer who had a "ding/scrape down the side" of their truck reported a completely satisfactory repair, stating that Frohriep Auto Body "made it like it never even happened," and praised their "great communication and service," indicating a positive experience with collision damage repair and painting in at least one instance.
In stark contrast, another, much more detailed review outlines a series of significant issues and negative interactions. This customer brought their truck in for door scratch repair (resulting from trim theft), paint flaking on box wheel wells, and requested painting of the interior wheel wells to prevent rust. According to this review, the scratches on the door were largely unaddressed, with only a partial and seemingly inadequate attempt made using a paint marker, despite an alleged agreement for a full door repaint. The adhesive from the stolen trim was also reportedly not fully removed.
Furthermore, the new paint on the exterior of the wheel wells was described as bubbling and popping even before the truck left the shop on one side, with debris trapped under the paint on the other. The interior of the wheel wells was allegedly left bare metal, contrary to the customer's request for paint to prevent rust, and instead, spray tar was used, applied poorly over existing dirt and debris and not covering the intended area adequately. The customer also claimed that despite being told the truck would be washed before painting, this was not done properly, leading to paint being applied over dirt.
This detailed negative review also describes a confrontational interaction with the owner, Mike, including allegations of screaming, threatening behavior, and calling the police during a dispute over the quality of the work. The customer stated they were calmly pointing out the discrepancies between the agreed-upon work and the actual outcome and that the owner refused to inspect the vehicle with them to verify the issues. The customer also recounted the owner's apparent reluctance to properly repair the interior wheel wells, citing the need to lift the truck and remove the tires as an unreasonable excuse. The owner allegedly initially agreed to brush primer on the interior but then used tar instead, over loose paint and debris, which the customer believed would not adhere properly and would trap moisture, exacerbating rust.
The features of Frohriep Auto Body, based on these conflicting reviews, present a mixed picture:
- Potential for high-quality collision repair and painting, as indicated by the positive review.
- However, significant concerns regarding the quality of paint work, attention to detail, and adherence to customer requests, as detailed in the negative review.
- Allegations of unprofessional customer service, including confrontational behavior and refusal to address customer concerns adequately.
- Potential issues with proper surface preparation before painting, leading to paint defects.
- Possible use of inappropriate materials (tar instead of paint/primer in wheel wells).
- Apparent reluctance to perform necessary steps for thorough repairs (e.g., removing tires for wheel well work).
The provided information does not include any details about promotional offers or warranties provided by Frohriep Auto Body. Local users considering their services would need to inquire directly about these aspects.
In conclusion, the customer reviews for Frohriep Auto Body in Sturgis, Michigan, present a stark contrast in experiences. While one customer reported excellent collision repair, another detailed a multitude of significant issues with paint work, unmet service requests, and highly unprofessional conduct. These discrepancies make it challenging to provide a uniformly positive or negative assessment based solely on this limited information. Local users considering Frohriep Auto Body should be aware of the potential for both satisfactory and highly unsatisfactory outcomes, based on the experiences shared. It would be prudent to seek additional reviews or consider obtaining multiple quotes and thoroughly discussing the scope of work and expectations before entrusting their vehicle to this shop.

Frohriep Auto Body Customer Reviews
There was a discrepancy between what I ask to have done and what actually got done and Mike called the police on me after he started screaming and acting like a lunatic while threatening me. I did not raise my voice, swear or give him any attitude I was simply stating the facts on what I was displeased with and could easily prove with a simple walk out to the truck with me that he refused. He refused because he knew that the job wasn’t done correctly and that I was right. He had no right to throw a massive childish tantrum we could of easily went our separate ways or he could of fixed it correctly. He did not charge me for the work but screaming and threatening for no reason definitely wasn’t in called for. Someone stole my trim piece off the driver side door with a knife scratching the paint and the box wheel wells had paint beginning to flake off. There was no noticeable rust yet so I was trying to stay ahead of it by getting the door repaired and the flakes taking care of before it started to rot out. They did not fix the scratches on the door at all minus what looks like a lazy attempt with a paint marker for about 25% of the scratches when we originally agreed on painting the door. Their claim was we only agreed to getting the adhesive off which was not true but they failed at that as well still adhesive on the door. I at no time mentioned the adhesive because it goes without saying you would have to remove the stolen trim adhesive to paint the door. The wheel wells exterior new paint is bubbling and popped already before it literally even left their shop on the driver side. There is a spot of debris under the new paint passenger side. They left the inside of the wheel wells bare to the steal and open which will turn to rust very quickly and rot out defeating the entire purpose of the work. They used spray tar when I wanted paint on the inside of wheel wells and didn’t even cover the problem area by staying two inches above the wheel well rim. They went over extreme amounts of road dirt under the wheel well with the tar and I’m assuming shop dust under the paint as well that’s probably why it’s bubbling and has debris under it. I called him on the way to the shop to drop off the truck specifically asking if he wanted me to wash the truck before I came in and what if any soap to use and he said don’t worry about it we always wash them before painting. I ran it through the auto car wash twice anyway on rinse with no soap just to be safe. It must of missed the interior wheel wells with the under spray at the auto car wash and I didn’t check when I was done but regardless he said “don’t worry about it we always wash them before painting”. The dirt was so obnoxious being a dirt road truck there is no way they didn’t see it they deliberately went over it. I gave him the opportunity to correct the mistakes after I went to pick up the truck the first time. Still having adhesive only partially removed and nothing done to the scratches on door and seeing all the issues with the wheel wells. Mike/Owner actually complained to me that to do the interior wheel wells he “would have to lift the truck all up and take the tires off”. Well of course you would? I couldn’t believe that was the excuse for not doing it correctly. How long does it take a professional shop to remove a tire? Mike said at the conclusion of the first pick up attempt that he “will brush over the interior area of the wheel well with primer but he’s not going to strip it all down”. So what that statement means is he is going to go over all the loose paint, dirt, and debris with primer that he knows as well as anyone with any basic knowledge of painting that it won’t stick. He than didn’t hold to his word again and used tar instead of primer. I ended up with bubbling and debris under new exterior paint, tar over spray on new paint and on cab and doors far from we’re it was used, tar in wheel wells over dirt and debris which will hold moisture, and scratches not removed from door, over spray on tires. Cheap tar used not paint.

My 2012 Silverado 2500 had a ding/scrape down the side from a minor accident. They made it like it never even happened. Great communication and service. Would use again if needed and recommend to anyone else!

I called them and they told me it takes about 15 minutes to get a free quote. I work during the hours they are open so I called them and asked them if I could drop my vehicle off to them the night prior, allowing them to quote it when the time fit their schedule. At the end of the first day they called and said they couldn't get to it. At the end of the 2nd day when they still hadn't bothered to take 15 minutes to quote it, after I had left my vehicle with them for 2 days was enough to tell me they didn't want my business. Frohriep's body shop used to be THE PLACE to take your stuff for fair, reasonable prices and great customer service. That is no longer the case, sadly.

Mike and his crew do a great job and they care about their customers. We had Frohriep Auto Body take care of all the small dents, chips and scrapes on my wifes "electric blue" car. It looked fantastic and was color matched perfectly!
