Fade To Black Protective Films LLC Introduce
Fade To Black Protective Films LLC, situated at 1510 N Crooks Rd, Clawson, MI 48017, USA, operates within the "Auto Repair Stations" category, specifically focusing on vehicle appearance enhancement and protection services. The business can be reached at (248) 224-7624. Unlike traditional auto repair shops that address mechanical issues, Fade To Black Protective Films specializes in aesthetic and protective applications for vehicles, marine vessels, commercial properties, and even residential surfaces.
While the exact physical environment of Fade To Black Protective Films LLC is not detailed in the provided information, the nature of their services suggests a specialized facility equipped for precision work such as film application and coating. However, the customer reviews highlight significant concerns regarding the overall customer experience and the quality control within this environment. Customers have reported issues such as air bubbles in window tints appearing shortly after installation, and subsequent peeling of paint protection film (PPF) within a few months. More critically, there are accounts of damage to vehicles, including deep scratches on paintwork and chipped paint, which customers allege were not present before the service. Furthermore, miscommunication regarding services, such as applying PPF to areas explicitly requested to be excluded, and unfulfilled promises regarding ceramic coating applications, contribute to a negative customer experience. The sentiment conveyed is one of disappointment and a lack of trust, with customers feeling that the "job was not done correctly the first time" and that initial concerns about bubbles or imperfections were dismissed with assurances that they would "evaporate out," which ultimately did not happen. This indicates a potential gap between service delivery and customer expectations, leading to inconvenience and additional costs for rectification at other shops.
Fade To Black Protective Films LLC is an expert in providing advanced surface protection and enhancement services for vehicles. Their core offerings include:
- Window Tinting: This is one of their foundational services, aiming to provide UV filtering, heat reduction, privacy, and improved aesthetics for automotive, commercial, and residential windows. They mention using XPEL PRIME window films.
- Paint Protection Film (PPF): Also known as "clear bra," this service involves applying a self-healing film to vehicle paintwork to protect against rock chips, scratches, contaminants, etching, and fading. They use XPEL ULTIMATE PLUS paint protection film.
- Ceramic Coatings: Fade To Black offers ceramic coatings for various surfaces, including paint, wheels, and interiors, designed to provide a permanent protective layer that repels water and contaminants. They are noted as one of the largest Ceramic Pro nano-ceramic dealers.
- Color Change Vinyl Wraps: For customers looking to alter their vehicle's appearance without repainting, vinyl wraps offer a customizable solution.
- Exoshield Windshield Protection Film: A service aimed at making windshields stronger against impacts.
- Mobile Detailing and Car Care Products: They also offer mobile detailing services and sell their own line of professional-grade car care products for maintenance after their services.
Their services extend beyond traditional automobiles to include RVs, boats, motorcycles, and even commercial and residential glass. They cater to a wide range of vehicles, from daily drivers to luxury and exotic cars, claiming over 25 years of experience in the field.
Fade To Black Protective Films LLC positions itself as a premier provider of high-quality automotive surface protection in Michigan. They emphasize using "the best products in the world," such as XPEL films and Ceramic Pro coatings, and aim for proper installation to "guarantee longevity and many years of performance." Their expertise is broad, covering not only cars but also marine, commercial, residential, and motorcycle applications. The business focuses on enhancing, protecting, and maintaining luxury and exotic vehicles, though they also serve daily drivers and trucks. They claim to have "world-class facilities" in Clawson and cater to surrounding areas like Birmingham and Novi, with customers from as far as Ann Arbor. The advertised features include superior product quality, extensive experience, and a wide array of specialized services designed to protect and enhance vehicle aesthetics. However, the customer reviews indicate a disparity between these claimed features and the actual customer experience, specifically concerning installation quality control and post-service accountability for reported damages or issues.
Fade To Black Protective Films LLC promotes itself through its extensive service offerings and the use of premium products, along with its long-standing presence in the industry. Their website details the benefits of their services, such as superior protection, aesthetic enhancement, and ease of maintenance. They highlight their specialized expertise and ability to work on a diverse range of vehicles and surfaces. However, the provided customer reviews present a significant counterpoint to this promotional narrative. The negative feedback regarding recurring issues like bubbling tints and peeling PPF, coupled with allegations of new damage to vehicles during service and a perceived lack of accountability, creates a challenging public perception. The strong recommendations from dissatisfied customers to "try a different shop" or "go elsewhere" for tints, and the decision to take vehicles to "another shop this fall to correct all the issues properly," serve as powerful negative promotional messages. This suggests that despite their advertised capabilities and premium product usage, the actual execution and post-service customer care may not consistently meet expectations, leading to considerable customer dissatisfaction and a damaged reputation within the local community. For potential customers, these reviews indicate a need for caution and thorough due diligence before committing to services at Fade To Black Protective Films LLC.

*UPDATE: Not even one year later and all of my tinted windows have multiple new bubbles. I would recommend going elsewhere unless you want the same problem.* I’m disappointed with the outcome of my experience. After getting the tints done at Fade to Black, a few of my windows had A LOT of air bubbles (two weeks after). The owner agreed to have the rear windshield (the most flawed) fixed. I scheduled a new appointment and took my car back in a few weeks later, which was a minor inconvenience to me. Would be ideal if the job was done correctly the first time. But, I was just happy to be getting the mess fixed. However, when I got my car back I noticed a a new scratch on the door that was NOT there before. I am going to assume it was from one of the tinter’s tool belts or something. It’s deep enough to not be able to be buffed out. So this is gonna set me back more than I paid to have the tints done. There’s no way to prove this, but I know it wasn’t there before. I just got the BMW in May, so I keep an eye on it meticulously. Always do walk arounds and baby the car. Either way… for $400 (a fair price if done correctly) I really expected better from Fade to Black. Oh yeah, one of my side windows still has multiple air bubbles that’ll surely peel in a few years. I’d recommend trying a different shop for your window tints based upon my experience.

Updated: PPF fell off and is falling off after 2 months! Sadly I’m not at all impressed with this place. First of all when I’m called to pick up the vehicle, they PPF’d the rockers which I SPECIFICALLY told them not to do. I should have told them to remove it but instead we settled on a slight discount. Now 2 months later the PPF has lifted on and filled with dirt and the “bubbles” never came out because the surface was obviously contaminated when they installed it. Next issue I found when picking up the car is they chipped paint on the edge of my hood. They claim it wasn’t them but the vehicle was delivered to them brand new, with hood protection installed AND I visited the shop while the car was in progress and it wasn’t damaged at that time. What it looks like is they threw the keys on the windshield and it hit the hood. When picking up the car we pointed out tons of bubbles in the PPF, Tints and just really bad joints on the PPF install that still annoy me every-time I look at the car, but was told they’ll evaporate out… they haven’t. Now after washing the car a few times I’ve noticed the rear window was never ceramic coated, the brakes were not ceramic coated and only the wheel faces were ceramic coated aka they didn’t remove the wheels like they said. I’ve also noticed a number of spots on the wheels and door jams where ceramic coating was installed and not buffed off leaving the rainbow haze. The plan is to take the vehicle to another shop this fall to correct all the issues properly as I don’t want my vehicle going back there.

I had protective film and ceramic coat applied to my car. Jason was extremely helpful throughout the entire process and answered all of my questions (I had many). The shop is spotless and my experience was truly great. The attention to detail is very apparent. I would not hesitate to have the same work done on future vehicles and I'll be coming back once it's time to apply tint to my current vehicle. Thanks again Jason! You and your team do great work.

I can't say enough great things about Jason and the whole team at Fade To Black. They are clean, professional, and the workmanship is unparalleled. This area is saturated with other companies claiming they can accomplish what Fade To Black can, but those are false promises. Seriously, use these guys, hands down the best in Oakland County.

Had my windows tinted on my new car a couple of months ago. Although they matched the color good with the glare tint that was already on there, there is a couple of windows that the tint isn’t all the way to the bottom of the window so it’s clearly visible and where sun comes in. For the price I paid I would expect it to be perfect.
