Dillon's Auto Salvage Introduce
Dillon's Auto Salvage, located at 7507 10th St SW, Byron, MN 55920, USA, operates within the "Auto Repair Stations" platform category, though its core business appears to be more aligned with an auto salvage yard or junkyard. They can be reached by phone at (507) 281-3872 or +1 507-281-3872. This establishment serves as a source for used auto parts, catering to individuals and businesses looking for affordable replacement components for various vehicles.
The environment at Dillon's Auto Salvage, as described by customer reviews, appears to be characteristic of a salvage yard. One review explicitly differentiates it as a "SCRAPYARD not a Junkyard," suggesting a focus on processing vehicles for metal rather than solely providing a "u-pull" experience for individual parts. The mention of "ill maintained yard with huge dozer ruts" paints a picture of a rough, industrial setting, which is not uncommon for facilities of this nature. Customers should anticipate an outdoor environment that may be uneven and potentially muddy, requiring appropriate footwear and caution.
Customer interaction, according to one detailed review, can be inconsistent. The difficulty in getting a "straight answer if they let people into the yard" and a vague response to inquiries about pricing ("depends what you want") suggest a less structured customer service approach compared to a traditional retail auto parts store. This might indicate that the business is geared more towards bulk buyers or those with specific knowledge of salvage operations, rather than casual individual customers looking to browse or "u-pull" parts freely. The experience described, including a negotiation for parts and the staff's reaction to a customer pulling multiple items, hints at a business model that might not be fully accustomed to or prefer individual, extensive part extraction by customers. However, another review mentions receiving a "fair price on the seat" for an 05 Dodge Caravan, indicating that positive transactions do occur, particularly when the part needed is straightforward.
Dillon's Auto Salvage, as its name suggests, primarily offers used auto parts derived from salvaged vehicles. While it falls under the "Auto Repair Stations" category on some platforms, it's important to understand that its services are distinct from a typical repair shop. Instead of offering mechanical repairs, the main service is the sale of salvaged vehicle components.
Based on the customer feedback, the services would include:
- Used Auto Parts Sales: Customers can likely inquire about and purchase specific used parts from vehicles that have been brought into the salvage yard. The range of parts available would depend on their current inventory of salvaged cars, which can fluctuate. The positive review regarding a seat for a Dodge Caravan confirms the availability of specific components.
- Vehicle Salvaging/Scrapping: The comment "this place is a SCRAPYARD not a Junkyard" and the mention of "crushing it" imply that a significant part of their operation involves dismantling vehicles for scrap metal, in addition to selling usable parts.
- Potentially "U-Pull" Opportunities: While one review suggests a reluctance or ambiguity around customers entering the yard to pull their own parts, the direct question "if they let people into the yard" indicates that this might be an occasional or limited service, or perhaps one that requires specific negotiation or permission. If offered, "u-pull" allows customers to retrieve parts themselves, often at a lower cost.
It is important for potential customers to clarify the exact process for obtaining parts—whether they are pulled by staff or if "u-pull" access is granted for specific vehicles or times—before visiting.
The primary feature of Dillon's Auto Salvage, common to all salvage yards, is the availability of used auto parts at potentially lower prices than new or aftermarket equivalents. This makes them a valuable resource for individuals looking to repair older vehicles or those on a budget.
However, based on the provided feedback, other features and operational aspects include:
- Variable Pricing/Negotiation: The review mentioning haggling and "depends what you want" suggests that pricing may not be fixed and could be open to negotiation, particularly for multiple parts or larger purchases. This can be a feature for savvy buyers but a challenge for others seeking transparent, set prices.
- Inventory Fluctuation: As with any salvage yard, the inventory of available parts is constantly changing based on the vehicles acquired and processed. Customers seeking specific or rare parts may need to check frequently or be prepared for limited availability.
- Yard Condition: The mention of "ill maintained yard with huge dozer ruts" suggests a rough terrain. This implies that while the facility provides access to parts, it is a working industrial site rather than a polished retail space.
- Focus on Scrap vs. Parts: The strong statement from one customer, "I guess this place only wants scrap," indicates that the primary business model might lean more towards vehicle recycling for raw materials than solely facilitating parts sales, especially for niche or less common vehicles like the "1 in a million t-bird."
The BBB has Dillon's Auto Salvage listed with an A+ rating, suggesting that despite individual customer experiences, they meet BBB accreditation standards for customer service, transparency, and ethical business practices over time. This indicates that while some interactions might be challenging, the business generally operates with a level of professionalism expected by the Better Business Bureau.
Direct promotional information, such as advertised sales or discounts, is not available from the provided data. However, the inherent "promotion" of a salvage yard like Dillon's Auto Salvage is the opportunity to acquire used auto parts at a lower cost than new components. For specific parts, such as the seat for an '05 Dodge Caravan mentioned in a positive review, the value proposition is getting a functional part at a "fair price."
The mixed customer reviews serve as informal "promotional" or "warning" messages. The positive review highlights the potential for good value on specific items, while the negative review acts as a caution regarding customer service, yard conditions, and potentially inflexible pricing or a focus on scrapping over individual parts sales, especially for unique vehicles.
For local users in Byron, MN, and surrounding areas, Dillon's Auto Salvage is a resource for used auto parts. Those considering a visit should be prepared for an industrial environment and potentially a different customer service approach than a standard retail store. It would be advisable to call ahead with specific part inquiries to gauge availability and pricing expectations. For those with a clear understanding of what they need and a willingness to navigate a salvage yard environment, Dillon's Auto Salvage might offer a cost-effective solution for their automotive part requirements. However, as with any salvage operation, individual experiences can vary, and managing expectations regarding the process and the condition of the yard is recommended.

Dillon's Auto Salvage Customer Reviews
This place is a SCRAPYARD not a Junkyard. First all they couldn't give me a straight answer if they let people into the yard. I asked if there was a price list or if they haggle for "u pull" kind of shrugged it off and replied "depends what you want" I don't think this place is used to customers buying carts of parts at a time. I let him know I would be a repeat if treated well. Gave me a price of $210 for all the parts I pulled in a half hour, I counter with $175 or its all sitting there. They wanted $50 for a steering column I pulled out of their I'll maintained yard with huge dozer ruts. After he throws this price out he then proceeds to say "after this there will be no parts pulled off of that car and I'm crushing it." Dude wants to literally throw away a 1 in a million t bird. I guess this place only wants scrap. Buy your parts elsewhere....I could have been a multi thousand dollar customer for this company but I guess not. What a joke....steer far clear from this "establishment."

I usually call to check if part is available but online search is available. They will pull the part & call back when it is ready for pickup. Every time I have needed a part, they have been super fast & called back the same day!! I don’t have a problem driving 100+ miles, since I’ve moved from the area, because I know the part I get will be honestly portrayed & if they can’t guarantee it (ex. Windshield) they will tell you if it has rock chips, or some flaw that may get worse in the near future. They will also inform you if there is anything that you can do to prevent it from getting worse. I know that I can trust this business & refer all my friends & family members! Thank you for being an honest & reliable business!

Items almost never as described, disrespectful and flat out rude. I had a long drive and called ahead to make for certain the part was as described and of course when i get there… not at all. And then i am scoffed at because i dont want to buy the part that was not as it was told. i will never spend a dime here and id urge you not to as well.

I’ve been going there since I was a teenager - the staff do a good job removing parts and including everything. They have the cheapest parts and will allow you to check the yard yourself for misc interior parts and items. The owner and office guys are knowledgeable and polite and if they have time they have always answered questions I give them.
