Environment and Atmosphere

As an automotive machine shop and performance specialist, Action Engineering's environment is likely characterized by specialized equipment and a meticulous attention to detail. This type of facility typically houses precision machining tools for engine components, dedicated areas for engine assembly, and possibly a dyno for performance tuning. The reviews suggest a highly professional yet approachable atmosphere. The fact that the owner, Josh, "walked me through the entire tune he did" indicates a commitment to transparency and customer education. This suggests a clean, organized shop where complex work is performed with expertise. It’s an environment where serious automotive work is done, but with a clear focus on customer interaction and satisfaction.

Comprehensive Services and Goods for Sale

Action Engineering positions itself as "SE Minnesota's full service automotive machine shop," which means their offerings are far more specialized than a general repair garage. While they might not handle routine oil changes, their core competencies revolve around the heart of the vehicle: the engine, and enhancing its performance. Their services and goods for sale, within the broader category of "Auto Repair Stations" (as they provide critical vehicle-related services), include:

  • Engine Machining Services: This is a primary focus. They offer a comprehensive range of engine machining needs, which can include cylinder head repair, block boring and honing, crankshaft grinding, valve jobs, and engine balancing. This is essential for both rebuilding worn engines and preparing engines for high-performance applications.

  • Performance and Race Engine Building: Action Engineering specializes in crafting high-performance and race engines. This involves precision assembly, blueprinting, and often custom modifications to maximize power and durability for racing or demanding street use. The review mentioning "fixed my Camaro, gave it an excellent tune" directly supports their expertise in performance vehicles.

  • Classic Car and Muscle Car Engine Work: They cater to classic and muscle car enthusiasts, understanding the unique requirements and attention to detail these vintage vehicles demand for their engines.

  • Ag/Diesel/Industrial Engine Services: Beyond passenger vehicles, they also extend their expertise to agricultural, diesel, and industrial engine machining, indicating a broad range of capabilities and equipment.

  • Engine Tuning: As highlighted by a customer, they provide expert engine tuning services. This often involves calibrating engine management systems (ECUs) to optimize fuel delivery, ignition timing, and other parameters for maximum power, efficiency, or specific driving conditions.

  • Sale of Performance Parts and Speed Shop Products: Action Engineering acts as a "speed shop," offering a curated selection of performance products from various reputable brands. This means customers can acquire specialized components for engine upgrades, suspension modifications, and other performance enhancements directly from the shop. They "have the knowledge and resources to make sure you get the right parts, the first time."

  • Used Parts Sales (e.g., Cylinder Heads): They sell used automotive parts, as evidenced by the sale of "used heads for sale." The customer's positive experience with "accurate description" and professional handling of a shipping issue highlights their commitment to quality even with used inventory.

  • Specialized Tire Sales: They are noted distributors for niche tires like American Racer Tires and Hoosier Tires, which are primarily used in racing and high-performance applications. This further underscores their dedication to the performance and racing community.

  • Specialized Lubricants and Fuels: They also carry products like Sunoco Race Fuels and Schaeffers Specialized Lubricants, indicating their commitment to providing high-quality consumables essential for performance engines and demanding applications.

Features and Customer Focus

The customer reviews unequivocally highlight Action Engineering's strong points, particularly focusing on their technical expertise and customer-centric approach:

  • Expertise and Skill: The repeated use of "Top notch shop" and the successful repair and tune of a "Camaro" attest to their high level of technical skill, especially in performance and specialized vehicle work. Their ability to deliver "fabulous work" in complex engine and tuning scenarios is a significant feature.

  • Transparency and Education: Josh's willingness to "walked me through the entire tune he did when I picked up my car" is a testament to their transparency and commitment to educating their customers. This builds trust and ensures customers understand the value of the work performed.

  • Accuracy in Product Description: The customer who purchased used heads praised the "accurate description," which is crucial when buying used parts. This shows integrity in their sales practices.

  • Exceptional Customer Care: Even when a shipping issue arose with the used heads, the customer was "notified" and Action Engineering went the extra mile by "ran them through the parts washer" as compensation for the slight delay. This demonstrates a clear dedication to "Clearly care for the customer," going beyond mere transaction to ensure satisfaction.

  • Well-Packaged Goods: The "Well packaged" comment for the used heads also indicates a professional approach to handling and delivering products, ensuring they arrive safely.

  • Strong Recommendations: Phrases like "I cannot recommend Josh and this shop enough" signify an extremely high level of customer satisfaction and loyalty.

Promotional Information

While specific, time-sensitive promotional offers are not detailed, Action Engineering's business model and customer feedback suggest several ways they promote their services and value:

  • Expert Consultation: Their willingness to "walk through" the tune and provide accurate descriptions implies they offer detailed consultations, ensuring customers make informed decisions, especially for performance upgrades or complex engine work. This expertise itself acts as a promotional tool.

  • Quality Assurance: The consistent delivery of "top-notch" and "fabulous work" serves as their primary promotion. Satisfied customers, like those providing reviews, are the most effective form of advertisement through word-of-mouth referrals.

  • Specialized Product Sourcing: By offering hard-to-find racing tires and specialized lubricants, they cater to a niche market, making them a go-to source for specific high-performance needs.

  • Relationship Building: Their emphasis on customer care and transparency fosters long-term relationships, encouraging repeat business and referrals within the automotive community.

  • Online Presence (implied): While not explicitly detailed, their mention of a "line card" to view carried brands suggests an online presence where customers can explore their offerings. For the most up-to-date product lists and services, contacting them directly is the best approach.

For anyone in Byron, MN, or beyond, looking for an automotive machine shop that combines profound technical expertise with genuine customer care, Action Engineering, led by Josh, appears to be an exemplary choice. Whether it's for a high-performance build, classic car restoration, or sourcing specialized parts, their reputation for quality and customer satisfaction precedes them. Action Engineering Customer Reviews

They had a set of used heads for sale, accurate description and when there was an issue with shipping I was notified and because they were being sent a couple days later they ran them through the parts washer for me. Well packaged. Clearly care for the customer.

Went in there to talk about doing an engine build for my car. They wouldn't even talk to me except to say that they weren't interested. Very disappointed.
