Decker's Tire & Auto Introduce

Decker's Tire & Auto, located at 1924 Pamalee Dr, Fayetteville, NC 28301, USA, operates as a unique establishment within the automotive sector. Its name suggests a primary focus on tires and general auto repair, which aligns with the "Auto Repair Stations" category. However, the comprehensive customer reviews indicate that it also functions as a "buy here, pay here" used car dealership with an integrated repair shop on the lot. This dual business model significantly shapes the environment, services, and features offered to local users. For direct inquiries, the business can be reached at (910) 822-1050 or via mobile at +1 910-822-1050.

The environment at Decker's Tire & Auto can be understood as a combination of a used car sales lot and an automotive repair facility. The sales aspect would involve an outdoor lot displaying vehicles for sale, potentially with a small office for sales and financing. The integrated repair shop would consist of service bays equipped with tools and machinery for vehicle diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs, including tire services. The "buy here, pay here" model often implies a practical, no-frills environment, where the focus is on facilitating vehicle acquisition and subsequent servicing. The convenience of having a repair shop on the lot is a distinct environmental feature, creating an expectation for seamless transitions between sales and service.

The services offered by Decker's Tire & Auto are twofold, encompassing both used car sales and comprehensive automotive repair. Based on the customer reviews, these services include:

  • Used Vehicle Sales (Buy Here, Pay Here Model): The business sells pre-owned vehicles, offering flexible payment options and down payments. Customers purchase vehicles directly from the lot and make payments to the dealership. This service targets individuals who may have difficulty securing traditional automotive financing.
  • Automotive Repair and Diagnostics: The integrated repair shop on the lot provides services for vehicles, including diagnosing issues (e.g., car not going into gear, not starting) and proposing repairs. The reviews explicitly mention diagnostics for transmission issues and engine noises.
  • Tire Services: While not directly detailed in the provided reviews, the "Tire & Auto" in the business name strongly implies that they also provide a range of tire services, such as tire sales, mounting, balancing, and repair.
  • Paint Shop Services: One review specifically mentions an experience with a "paint shop that promised me a lifetime guarantee on their work," indicating that the business, or an affiliated entity, also offers auto body and paint services.

As an "Auto Repair Station," the repair shop would likely offer standard automotive maintenance and repair services typical of independent garages, supporting the vehicles they sell and potentially other local customers.

The features of Decker's Tire & Auto are critically illuminated by the provided customer reviews, revealing a complex and largely problematic operational profile. Initially, features that might attract customers include:

  • Convenience of Integrated Sales and Service: The presence of a repair shop on the same lot as the "buy here, pay here" dealership is a key feature, intended to offer customers confidence that vehicles are serviced and to provide ongoing support.
  • Flexible Payment Options: The "buy here, pay here" model offers "great and very flexible" price and down payment options, catering to a specific market segment.

However, the overwhelmingly negative and detailed customer experiences highlight severe deficiencies in their service and operational features:

  • Significant Delays in Repair Service: A major complaint is the excessive waiting period for repairs. A customer reported waiting "a couple weeks" initially, which stretched to "3 weeks later" and then "TWO months!" without their vehicle even being looked at, all while still making car payments and insurance. This demonstrates a profound lack of efficiency and communication in their repair shop.
  • Poor Communication and Lack of Proactiveness: Customers had to "call to follow up every single week," and the business or office never initiated contact regarding the status of the repair until a payment was missed. This indicates a severe deficiency in customer communication and proactive service.
  • Questionable Diagnostic and Repair Practices: The mechanic's diagnosis of a new transmission being needed, coupled with an engine "concerning noise" that couldn't be assessed until the transmission was replaced, and an approximate cost of "$2500" for a potentially outsourced part, raises concerns about diagnostic thoroughness and repair cost transparency. The implication of needing a second, unknown repair after the first costly one is particularly problematic.
  • Issues with Product Quality (Used Cars and Paint Work):
    • For the used car sales, while the initial test drive and Carfax seemed good, the vehicle experienced significant issues (transmission, engine not starting) within 6 months, despite a new battery. This points to potential underlying issues with the vehicles sold.
    • For the paint shop, a customer explicitly stated the "lifetime guarantee" was "a lie," as problems (bubbling, cracking, showing original paint) returned "barely a year later" despite the car being garage kept. This indicates a severe issue with the quality and durability of their paint work, and a failure to honor warranties/guarantees.
  • Unprofessional and Uncaring Customer Interaction Post-Sale/Service:
    • The response to the frustrated customer regarding the car issues was a belated offer for the owner to call, implying a lack of genuine concern.
    • The "owner and they couldn't even be bothered to speak to my husband and I" after the car was rendered further highlights a profound lack of customer care and professionalism, especially given the thousands of dollars spent.
    • For the paint shop, staff "always met with staff and turned away" when trying to get repairs under warranty, indicating a deliberate avoidance of fulfilling commitments.
  • Lack of Accountability: The paint shop review's accusation that staff "assured me that the bubbling paint was cured because they completely stripped the car down to bare metal. Not true my car began cracking and showing the original layer of paint big fat lie," suggests a pattern of dishonesty and dodging responsibility.

Regarding promotional information, no explicit promotions or advertising are provided. The business's "promotion" is entirely shaped by the detailed and highly negative customer reviews. While initially, the "buy here, pay here" model with "flexible" options, and the perceived confidence of having a repair shop on site, might act as informal promotional elements, the overwhelmingly critical feedback serves as a severe deterrent. The reviews actively warn potential customers: "Be Careful!!" and "Stay away from this establishment unless you feel like throwing away money." The detailed accounts of prolonged delays, alleged misdiagnosis, poor quality work, and a profound lack of customer care, professionalism, and honesty, especially regarding warranties and guarantees, function as a strong negative promotion. For local users in Fayetteville, NC, seeking auto parts, repair, or a used vehicle, these reviews paint a clear picture of significant risks associated with transacting with Decker's Tire & Auto, directly advising against giving them business. The information suggests that while the business offers a specific service model (buy here, pay here with integrated repair), the execution of that model, particularly in terms of post-sale service and quality assurance, is severely lacking according to multiple customers.

Decker's Tire & Auto Customer Reviews

Be Careful!! I realize you get what you get with a "but here, pay here" but when it came down to it, not a great experience at all. I purchased a 2009 vehicle last year around May/June. Test drive went well, Carfax didn't raise any flags and the vehicle had been taken care of pretty well. Price and down payment options were great and very flexible. We also felt good about the fact of them having a repair shop on the lot and felt confident the car had been serviced and/or looked over prior to being out on the lot. Around late Nov/ early December, we began having issues with the car going into gear. We knew this could turn into a larger problem if not addressed soon. With Xmas around the corner and us having other cars we decided to inform Decker of our concerns in December and asked if we could have the vehicle looked at by their shop at the first of the year. After leaving the car to sit for around 3 weeks (getting through Xmas) we went to start the vehicle to take it on Jan 2nd and the vehicle would no longer start. We immediately informed Decker and asked about having it towed to their shop. The car was there the next day 1/3 to see what the in the world may be going on. So 6 months in, our gear is acting up where when the car was in drive, it would only go in reverse and after leaving the car sitting for 3 weeks during the holidays, it now won't even start, and the battery was new as well. After having the vehicle towed on 1/3, we were informed by the shop that he would need a couple weeks before he could get to it. We understood and waited patiently. 3 weeks later (still paying my car payment and insurance) we hadn't heard anything. So we follow up only to be told, they still have not even looked at it yet! A little annoyed, we continue to wait for the diagnosis, calling to follow up every single week. WE called to follow up, NOT them or the office. After (2) TWO months! I get a call from the mechanic telling me it needs a new transmission, and the engine is making a concerning noise BUT they won't know if there's an issue until the transmission is replaced first. They tell me I'm looking at "around" $2500 and they THINK they may have one out there, somewhere to stick in it. Buuut if they didn't already have a transmission and had to outsource, it would cost more. So they wanted at minimum $2500 to replace the transmission so I could then see if I may need a repair for the engine ALSO. Needless to say, we didn't pay March 1st and removed the vehicle from our insurance. The office reached out for the first time the second week of March asking if we were turning the vehicle in. I expressed my concerns and being disappointed with how things had transpired. I was then asked if I wanted to owner to call me!?! I didn't think I'd have to ask, if they actually cared about my business! And the fact I had paid them over 5 grand for a car I drove for merely a few months. Again, I get that this is a buy here pay here and sales are final, but we were willing to continue business or work something out for a different vehicle, even if a down payment would have been needed. Unfortunately due to the lack of care and consideration for their clients and their complete crap shoot of a shop, we chose to take our business elsewhere. Side note, after my discussion and rendering of the car, I ran into the owner and they couldn't even be bothered to speak to my husband and I. I'm positive not everyone will have this experience HOWEVER, this review is to give insight into how situations such as mine are handled! I'm very grateful to have the options I do to pick up the pieces from this situation and move on but it doesn't sting any less knowing I gave them thousands of dollars for a car I didn't even drive for 6 months! Be very careful moving forward with this company.

My experience was with the paint shop that promised me a lifetime guarantee on their work. This was a lie the very problems I brought my car in for returned barely a year later even though the car was garage kept for that plus an additional 3 years while I was deployed. When I first picked up the car there were some concerns with over spray on my rubber seals but I overlooked it the staff assured me that the bubbling paint was cured because they completely stripped the car down to bare metal. Not true my car began cracking and showing the original layer of paint big fat lie. I asked for the spots to be repaired I was told to come back later after that I was always met with staff and turned away. Stay away from this establishment unless you feel like throwing away money.

Towing section of this place sucks, my car was involved in an accident and towed to this location by authorization of Fay Police on a Friday night. The very next morning I attempted to go get my personal belongings and groceries I had just purchased from Walmart before accident. The shop was open and the man who was running place was real rude and unprofessional as hell told me I couldn't get anything out of my car until Monday even though he was there and had key?? So I had to wait until Monday after it rained in my car ALL weekend due to busted window in accident. Then when I finally get to retrieve things from my car a lot of my things were bad and ruined by rain and the tow truck driver just threw a 75 pound fire hydrant from accident in my front seat and ruined the custom $400 seat! Like really? Wrecked or not you should have respect for people's belongings and this place has none for customer or vehicle would not recommend them towing anything but a junk car to the scrap yard so you can be worry free about them trashing what you might have left from a life changing accident like mine.

Mr Tim is awesome, always friendly and helpful. Brought a truck 4 years ago with zero problems. I would without hesitation buy from there again.
