Cherry City Transmission Introduce
Cherry City Transmission, located at 853 9th St NW, Salem, OR 97304, USA, is a prominent establishment within the "Auto Repair Stations" category, specializing in transmission services but also offering a broader range of general automotive repairs. This family-owned business, operational since 2002, serves the Salem community and surrounding areas, catering to both import and domestic vehicles. They are reachable via phone at (503) 586-0061 or mobile at +1 503-586-0061.
As an "Auto Repair Station," Cherry City Transmission's environment is typical of a professional automotive service center. This would include a reception area where customers can discuss their vehicle's issues with service advisors, and a dedicated workshop equipped with various tools, lifts, and diagnostic equipment necessary for complex automotive repairs. Given their specialization, the workshop would be particularly outfitted for transmission work, which often requires specialized tools for disassembly, reassembly, and testing of intricate components. Online information suggests they utilize "the best automotive diagnostic equipment," indicating a commitment to modern repair practices. While direct details on customer waiting areas are not explicitly provided, it is common for reputable repair shops to offer amenities such as comfortable seating, and potentially Wi-Fi, to ensure a convenient experience for clients awaiting their vehicle's service or pickup. Their commitment to recycling used oils and parts also points to an environmentally conscious approach in their operational environment, contributing to a "clean and green" Salem.
Cherry City Transmission offers a comprehensive suite of services, extending beyond just transmissions. Their offerings include, but are not limited to:
- Transmission Repair and Rebuilding: This is their core specialization, covering automatic and standard transmissions, clutch replacement, transfer cases, and differential repairs. They emphasize diagnosing transmission problems honestly and expertly, and promise not to remove a transmission unless absolutely necessary.
- Electrical System Diagnostics and Repair: As highlighted by a customer review, they are capable of diagnosing and fixing electrical issues, including those related to ignition systems.
- General Auto Repair: Beyond transmissions, they function as a full-service auto repair shop, addressing various car and truck problems. This includes services such as battery & starting issues, belts & hoses, brake repair, cooling system services, drivetrain, engine diagnostics and repair, filters & fluids, fuel system, heating & cooling, and suspension & steering.
- Free Diagnostic Test Drives: They offer this service to help accurately identify issues before extensive work begins.
- Fluid Level Checks: They provide this service upon request to ensure vehicle safety and peace of mind.
- Fleet Services: They cater to businesses with vehicle fleets, offering competitive pricing and detailed service interval programs, recognizing the importance of minimizing downtime for commercial vehicles.
Several features define Cherry City Transmission's operation and contribute to its standing in the community. A prominent feature is their specialization in transmission repair. Being a "transmission shop" means they possess deep expertise and dedicated equipment for what is often considered one of the most complex and costly vehicle repairs. This specialization can lead to more accurate diagnoses and effective repairs for transmission-related issues.
Another significant feature is their commitment to thoroughness and attention to detail. One positive customer review specifically praises their "very thorough and great attention to detail" in checking ignition and electrical systems, and states that "Jeff, our mechanic, kept us posted during every stage of the troubleshooting." This level of communication and meticulousness is highly valued by customers and points to a professional approach to diagnostics and repair.
Their affiliation with the Automatic Transmission Rebuilder Association (ATRA) is a key professional feature. As an ATRA member, Cherry City Transmission adheres to specific service and repair definitions, bylaws, and a code of ethics. This affiliation suggests a commitment to industry standards, quality workmanship, and ethical business practices, providing customers with an added layer of confidence in their services. The shop also holds an A Rating with the BBB (Better Business Bureau), further solidifying their reputation for reliability and trustworthiness.
Transparency and reasonable pricing are also highlighted as features. The positive review mentions a "very reasonable cost for parts & labor," and the initial diagnostics are free. However, it's crucial to acknowledge the contrasting negative review, which describes a significant disagreement over diagnostic charges without work being performed. This disparity in experiences suggests that clear communication of policies, especially regarding diagnostic fees for even minimal work, is paramount. The general positive feedback regarding honest diagnosis from multiple sources points to this as a core value they aim for, though execution can sometimes lead to misunderstandings.
ASE Certified technicians are another key feature, as mentioned on their website. This certification signifies that their mechanics have met rigorous standards of knowledge and expertise in various automotive repair areas, ensuring high-quality service.
While specific promotional information is not detailed in the direct customer reviews provided, typical strategies for an "Auto Repair Station" like Cherry City Transmission often include:
- Online Presence: Maintaining a professional website (like cherrycitytrans.net) that lists services, accepts appointment requests, and provides customer testimonials.
- Free Diagnostic Test Drives: This is a standing offer that serves as a promotional tool, encouraging customers to bring their vehicles in for initial assessment without upfront cost.
- Warranties: Offering "Peace-of-Mind warranty protection on all the vehicles we service and repair" is a strong promotional point, assuring customers of the quality and durability of their work.
- Local Advertising: Engaging in local advertisements through community newspapers, radio, or online directories to reach the Salem area demographic.
- Fleet Service Programs: Actively promoting specialized programs and competitive pricing for business fleets to attract commercial clients.
- Customer Referrals: Relying on positive word-of-mouth, which is clearly a significant factor in their business, as evidenced by the positive review stating, "I’ll be calling on Cherry City Transmission again."
- Seasonal Specials: Though not explicitly stated, auto repair shops often run seasonal promotions for specific services, such as winter readiness checks or summer A/C services.
In conclusion, Cherry City Transmission, located at 853 9th St NW, Salem, OR, is a specialized "Auto Repair Station" known for its expertise in transmission repair and a broad range of general automotive services. They are committed to thorough diagnostics, transparent communication (though this can be subject to individual interpretation), and reasonable pricing, as evidenced by positive customer experiences and their affiliation with ATRA and BBB accreditation. While one negative review highlights a potential for misunderstanding regarding diagnostic charges for unapproved work, the overall public information emphasizes their professional approach, certified technicians, and dedication to customer satisfaction. Their phone numbers are (503) 586-0061 and +1 503-586-0061.

Cherry City Transmission Customer Reviews
Our Chevy wouldn’t start. So we had it towed to Cherry City Transmission, during the past holiday week and they took it right in and checked everything in the ignition & electrical. Very thorough and great attention to detail. Jeff, our mechanic, kept us posted during every stage of the troubleshooting. It was fixed when he said it would be fixed, and at a very reasonable cost for parts & labor. Highly recommend! When something else goes wrong with my truck, and I know it will, I’ll be calling on Cherry City Transmission again. Thanks, Jeff! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

DO NOT GO HERE Parked it there and was going to have the transmission looked at for a sensor and got a bad feeling to not get it worked on so I told them 10 minutes after dropping it off to not work on it. When I went to pick it up they wanted to charge me 100$ for “test driving and scanning it (one hour worth of work)” I set a trip odometer and they didn’t drive it at all. After telling them I didn’t think it was fair to pay 100$ when I told them not to work on it they told me to get out and that they never wanted to see me again. I do not recommend. Go somewhere else for any mechanical issues unless you like getting scammed.

I bought a jeep recently from someone who had no mechanical knowledge. He took this jeep into cherry city for every little noise. Come to find out they installed the WRONG cv axle. I have a quadradrive and they installed cv axles for a selec-drive. Perhaps if they were more intelligent they could do a 2k dollar job correctly. Dont waste your time on mechanics who cant tell a phillips from a flathead.

Tried to bring my car here for differential flush. They recommended I go to jiffy lube. I’m not a huge fan of being turned away from an auto mechanic for auto work but at least they were nice about it and saved me a trip down. **Update** Changed to 1 star for verification of poor customer service via reply. You can be nice and still offer poor customer service. You never once asked me my timeline, I had several days to leave my car with you for simple services but you never asked me anything. You just pushed me to another shop that couldn't even provide the proper service. It is better to ask what people need rather than tell them what they need.

The adage of "you get what you pay for" came true with my experience with Cherry City transmission. They were by far the least expensive estimate and well... I got what I paid for. Round 1: I took my Subaru to get the clutch repaired. They got me in quickly and completed the job in a timely manner, BUT... it then had a new clunking noise, so I took it back. Round 2: They found that they hadn't tightened an engine mount bolt. They tightened it and said I'm "good to go". Pretty shoddy and unsafe work. And it STILL had a Clunking noise so back I went. Round 3: They said they found where the brake shield had gotten bent during the repair, and they bent it back and I was “good to go”. I went to pick it up after-hours and I didn't make it 50' before clunk-clunk-clunk. So, I left it there. Do they not test-drive after making repairs? Round 4: I went back and the owner finally agreed to go with me on a drive. It took a bit to reproduce the clunk and in the process he insulted me by trying to claim the noise was always there and that I'm just now attuned to it. Categorically false! I got it to make the noise and he agreed there was a problem, but still tried to deflect any responsibility. Round 5: He agreed to replace the CV axle if I pay for the part, and I agreed. He later called and said, instead of replacing the axle, they greased the old one and that fixed it. So back I went. I made it home without any clunks. Time will tell. I couldn't understand why he backed off on his promise to replace the CV axle and why he was so confident that a little grease on the axle would fix the problem. While this last fix did seem to quiet the clunk, I am suspicious of his claim that grease fixed it. Considering all the other mistakes they made and lack of quality control, perhaps there was something else they discovered that they weren’t wanting to fess up to? The bottom line is that they made a lot of careless mistakes and released my car numerous times with obvious issues. I had to really pester them to get it right. I was weeks without a functioning car and between me and my ride helpers it took at least 10 roundtrips to the shop. They ultimately took care of the problems but I have little confidence this job was done correctly.
