The features of AAMCO Transmissions & Total Car Care in Clive, IA, are illuminated by contrasting customer reviews. On one hand, a highly positive review highlights several commendable features:
- Manager and Mechanics: The manager is described as "great," and the mechanics "ALWAYS go above and beyond," suggesting a team dedicated to customer satisfaction.
- Customer Treatment: The phrase "they treat you like family" indicates a personalized and caring approach to service, fostering loyalty.
- Fair Pricing: The assertion that "They won't over charge you" points to competitive and honest pricing, which is a significant draw for customers.
- Longevity of Customer Relationships: A customer states, "I have for years, and won't take it anywhere else," demonstrating strong customer retention and trust over an extended period.
On the other hand, a highly critical review presents a starkly different set of features and experiences:
- Quality of Work: The term "shotty work" suggests concerns about the craftsmanship and effectiveness of repairs, with the customer reporting "more problem in your car."
- Pricing Concerns: "Very expensive" is noted, contrasting with the "won't over charge you" comment from the positive review. This disparity could depend on the specific repair or customer perception.
- Technical Competence Issues: The detailed account of a broken bolt during a motor mount bracket removal, including an off-center drill for extraction, points to potential issues with technical precision and problem-solving during complex repairs.
- Perceived Lack of Integrity: The statement that "they just left off the broken one" (bolt) implies a lack of thoroughness or honesty in completing the repair.
This stark contrast in feedback suggests that while some customers experience exceptional service and value, others have encountered significant issues regarding quality and expense. It is worth noting that the critical review provides specific, detailed examples of the perceived poor workmanship, whereas the positive review focuses more on general positive impressions. The AAMCO Clive location is locally owned and operated, which can sometimes lead to variations in service quality and customer experience compared to a corporate-managed branch. They also offer financing options to help customers manage repair costs.
From a promotional standpoint, AAMCO Transmissions & Total Car Care in Clive leverages various strategies, often through the national AAMCO brand, but also with local initiatives. Their website prominently displays current offers, which include:
- Free Check Engine Light Offer: A common and attractive promotion for vehicle owners concerned about diagnostics.
- Free Brake Check: Encouraging customers to get their brakes inspected without an upfront cost.
- $100 Off Any Rebuilt or Remanufactured Transmission: This is a significant discount on their core specialized service, designed to attract customers facing expensive transmission repairs.
- Financing Options: They highlight flexible financing programs and payment plans, even for those with less-than-perfect credit, which can be a crucial factor for major repairs.
The positive customer review, describing the shop as treating customers "like family" and not overcharging, serves as powerful word-of-mouth promotion that counters some of the negative perceptions. For local users in Clive, IA, AAMCO promotes itself as a reliable destination for both complex transmission problems and general car care, emphasizing their expertise, comprehensive service offerings, and financial flexibility through various deals and payment solutions. The phone numbers (515) 277-6488 and +1 515-277-6488 provide direct contact for inquiries and scheduling appointments. The stark contrast in reviews suggests that potential customers should carefully consider multiple sources of feedback and potentially engage in direct communication with the shop to assess their specific needs.

Don’t waste your money with these guys shotty work and very expensive I paid 4000 for a used transmission and another 1000 for front struts to be installed when they removed the motor mount bracket on the other side not the transmission side they broke a bolt off in the engine that goes through the bracket to the engine I can see that tried to extract the bolt they drlled a hole to use an extractor they didn’t drill in the center they were off to one side so they made it impossible to get out. Only reason I found out because bracket bolts broke due to only 2 being used they just left off the broken one. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY!

I brought my truck in on July 10th to address an oil leak, and what unfolded was a series of events that has left me with a damaged engine and a frustrating experience. Here is a summary of what happened: - July 9th: I took my truck to Willis Cadillac for a recalled airbag replacement and a 60-point inspection, which included a video of my truck running. The inspection revealed an oil leak and CV shift tear. - July 10th: I brought my truck to Ammco to address the oil leak. The work done included replacing the oil pan, oil cooler lines, and front and rear main seals of the transmission. - July 12th (Friday): I paid Mark for the work done 2,400. and was told my truck would be ready for pickup after my appointment. However, when I called Mark at 2 pm, he informed me of a problem with no oil pressure. He said they would take it apart to investigate. - Later that day, Mark called me and said they found a leaf in the oil pickup line and weren't sure how it got there (I have this conversation on video). He said they would replace the pickup line. - After replacing the pickup line and two sensors, the truck still had no oil pressure. It became clear that the leaf could only have entered the pickup line during the oil pan replacement. - Starting the truck multiple times and letting it run for 30 minutes caused damage to the camshaft and camshaft bearings. I am extremely disappointed in the work done at Ammco and the resulting damage to my truck. I drove my truck in with no noise and had to push it out and tow it due to the damage caused by the leaf in the oil pickup line. Mark refused to cooperate with corporate so there is nothing they can do. They work and protect him! And he has no problem telling you this. He literally sent me my complaint to corporate then called me from a different number and asked me if this is how I really feel. Please think twice before you decide to get any work done here.

I brought my Rogue in after being referred there by Brakes Plus. My initial interactions with the staff were positive. I was given a loaned car to use while they did my inspection. The loaner car was disgusting, the seat wouldn’t move forward, there was less than half a tank of gas, and the engine light was on. After a little less than 1 hour I got a call saying I needed a brand new transmission. The employee/owner said “Because you’re a girl no offense you should come in and we can show you it and let you drive it again. I don’t want your friends or family to sway you”. I told him replacing the transmission for 5k wasn’t an option and that I would just come pick up my vehicle. When I came back to pick my vehicle up and return the loaner vehicle the worker was dismissive of me and attempted to scare me into getting work done saying things along the line of “don’t go far, it will break down, etc.” When my partner called to get more information the worker was also rude and dismissive to him. I would not recommend stoping at this location to anyone. I will be seeking a second opinion on my vehicle, but there is no world where I would give that misogynist my hard earn money after the way he spoke to me because of my sex and the total change in demeanor after I said I wouldn’t be getting the transmission replaced. This place is exactly why women dread going to auto repair places.
