A-Z Transmissions Introduce

A-Z Transmissions, situated at 1352 Combermere Dr A, Troy, MI 48083, USA, operates as an auto repair station specializing in transmission services. Positioned within the "Auto Repair Stations" category, this business primarily focuses on diagnosing, repairing, and replacing transmissions for various vehicle types. Their offerings also extend to related mechanical work, such as clutch repair, making them a specialized solution for complex drivetrain issues in the Troy area.

---
Environment and Operations

As a specialized transmission repair shop, A-Z Transmissions would typically feature a workshop environment equipped for heavy-duty automotive work. This includes lifts, specialized diagnostic tools for transmissions, and the necessary equipment for removing, disassembling, and rebuilding or replacing transmission units. A reception area would be present for customer interactions, where vehicle issues are discussed and service details are outlined. The operational flow, particularly for major repairs like transmission replacements, would involve detailed diagnostics, ordering parts, and significant labor time. Based on customer feedback, the operational efficiency and customer service experience at A-Z Transmissions appear to be highly variable.

One customer's experience highlights significant delays, with a van taking "over a couple months" to resolve initial issues, and an additional "six weeks" for subsequent repair attempts. This suggests potential challenges in managing workload, diagnostic processes, or parts procurement, leading to extended vehicle downtime. Conversely, another customer experienced prompt and efficient service, with a quick turnaround on a Silverado diagnosis and a successful clutch replacement for a Mustang, indicating that for certain services or under different circumstances, the operations can be effective.

Services Offered

A-Z Transmissions' core competency lies in transmission-related services. Based on customer accounts, their specific offerings include:

  • Transmission Installation and Replacement: This is a primary service, involving the removal of a faulty transmission and the installation of a new or rebuilt unit. One customer had a "new transmission installed" for their work van.

  • Transmission Diagnostics: The shop performs diagnostic checks to identify transmission issues. One positive review mentioned them "check out" a Silverado, leading to a much cheaper repair than initially quoted by another shop, indicating effective diagnostic capabilities.

  • Clutch Repair and Replacement: They successfully repaired a clutch in a Mustang, demonstrating expertise in manual transmission components.

  • Transmission Fluid Checks and Changes: A customer returned for a "fluid checked and changed" after 30,000 miles on a repaired transmission, indicating a commitment to post-repair maintenance and ensuring longevity of their work.

  • Related Component Issues (e.g., BCM): While primarily a transmission shop, they also appear to address related vehicle control systems, as evidenced by the mention of attempting to address a Body Control Module (BCM) issue. However, the success of these broader diagnostics seems to vary.

The company's specialization in transmissions implies a depth of knowledge and specialized tools for these complex systems, which might not be available at general auto repair shops.

Features and Customer Experience

The customer experiences provided for A-Z Transmissions are strikingly divergent, presenting both highly positive and severely negative features:

  • Specialized Expertise (Positive): For one customer, A-Z Transmissions demonstrated effective diagnostic skills by identifying a cheaper solution for a Silverado's transmission issue, saving them over $6,000. The successful clutch repair on a Mustang, with the vehicle performing well even after 30,000 miles, further reinforces their technical competence in specific areas.

  • Problem Solving (Positive): The instance of finding a resolution for a Silverado without requiring a full transmission replacement highlights a customer-centric approach to problem-solving and cost-efficiency in certain situations.

  • Customer Service and Communication (Highly Negative): The most detailed review paints a picture of severe customer service failures. Key issues include:

    • Lack of Priority Post-Payment: The customer felt they were "not a priority" once payment was received, leading to weeks of delay in subsequent diagnostics.

    • Misdiagnosis and Incomplete Repairs: The initial issue persisted after a new transmission was installed, and a misdiagnosis led to unnecessary waiting for a BCM. The ultimate diagnosis by the dealership (internal transmission issue) contradicted A-Z Transmissions' findings.

    • Refusal to Honor Warranty/Commitments: The owner, Zack, allegedly promised to cover expenses for a necessary repair identified elsewhere but failed to follow through, ignored calls, and later disputed evidence. This indicates a significant breach of trust and a refusal to honor stated commitments.

    • Unprofessional Conduct: The owner's public confrontation with the customer over payment, despite the payment being made within the agreed timeframe, is a severe instance of unprofessional and aggressive behavior. His subsequent false claims to others about non-payment further exacerbate the negative experience.

    • Lack of Accountability: The refusal to accept responsibility for recurring issues and the constant "pushing off" of repairs demonstrate a significant lack of accountability for their work.

    • Warranty Adherence Concerns: A new transmission needing replacement after only 9 months and less than 1,000 miles, coupled with the company's alleged refusal to honor its warranty, is a critical red flag for potential customers.

Promotional Information

No explicit promotional offers like discounts or specific deals are provided. The "promotional" aspect of A-Z Transmissions is primarily derived from the contrasting customer experiences:

  • Potential for Cost Savings: The positive review highlights the potential for significant cost savings by accurately diagnosing issues and avoiding unnecessary expensive repairs, which serves as an attractive proposition for value-conscious customers. The successful clutch repair at a reasonable cost also falls into this category.

  • Specialized Transmission Expertise: The company's name and the successful repairs mentioned suggest a core competency in transmissions, which can be a draw for individuals with specific drivetrain problems that general mechanics might struggle with.

However, the highly negative review provides a stark warning, which also functions as a form of "promotional" (or anti-promotional) information for potential customers. The explicit advice "DO NOT PAY UNTIL YOU VERIFY PROPERLY FIXED!!!" and "Buyer beware — stay far away from them!" serve as crucial warnings about potential risks when engaging with this business.

For individuals in Troy, MI, needing transmission services, A-Z Transmissions can be contacted at (248) 689-2303 or +1 248-689-2303. Given the starkly contrasting customer experiences, it is highly advisable for potential customers to proceed with extreme caution, gather detailed written estimates, understand warranty terms thoroughly, and perhaps consider a deposit-only payment structure rather than full upfront payment, especially for significant repairs. Verifying proper functionality before final payment, as suggested by a customer, seems to be a critical step for risk mitigation.

A-Z Transmissions Customer Reviews

"0 Stars" DO NOT PAY UNTIL YOU VERIFY PROPERLY FIXED!!! I had a new transmission installed by this company, and on the very next day after getting the Van back, it had issues. I took the van back, and it took them three weeks to even look at it again! I guess because they had already been paid, I was not a priority?! After waiting three weeks, they claimed the issue wasn’t with the transmission but with the BCM, so I waited a few more weeks for them to install it. This is my work van, and it had already been down over a couple months, so rather than continuing to wait, I took elsewhere for the BCM. The new BCM was installed by the other company, but the transmission problem persisted. I informed this company (owner Zack) that I was still having the same issue, but after more waiting, nothing was done. Zero customer service from anyone. Again, because I need my work van in the field, I took the van to the dealership. The dealership identified an "internal transmission issue — the Range Sensor". I informed this company again, and they said they would take care of it, but they kept pushing the installation off, forcing me to go elsewhere again for the repair. The owner (Zack) told me he would cover the expense but wanted to speak to the company that installed the transmission. I gave him the phone number, but he never called. The company also tried reaching out to the owner (Zack), but he never answered or returned their call. Then, the owner claimed he needed to see a video of the installation. I provided the video, and he claimed it wasn’t the same van. It’s ridiculous to expect me to make a video of a transmission repair. To make things worse when the owner (Zack) called me on a Thursday to let me know the repair was complete, I informed the owner (Zack) that I was out of town and would pay on Monday 3 days after repair was finished. The following morning the owner (Zack) barged in to my office, knowing I am out of town and made a scene in front of my employees about the invoice. The repair took 6 weeks and I offered on 3 different occasions to pay a deposit but the owner (Zack) declined each time. I paid over $11,000 on Monday 3 days after the repair was complete. The owner (Zack) later apologized for his unprofessional behavior. After the owner (Zack) apologized he then tells others in my complex that I did not pay him. To top it all off Now, after nine months, and less than 1,000 miles on the new transmission, the transmission needs to be replaced. This company is shady, unprofessional, doesn’t keep their promises, and refuses to honor their warranty. Buyer beware — stay far away from them!

I uses these guys twice now 2 different vehicles. First time for my silverado they checked it out after a previous shop quoted me 6900 for a transmission . These guys found and issue that resulted in not needing a new transmission and had me out the door for under $700. Second time was for a clutch in my mustang. 6k miles now since and both vehicles driving great. Thanks guys.. Update . Just got to the 30k mark came in to have the fluid checked and changed. Trans pan looked super clean and is shifting great.
