Introduction / Overview

The Sunoco gas station situated at 8203 West Chester Pike in Upper Darby Township, PA, is part of Sunoco's extensive network of fuel retail sites across the United States. Sunoco is a prominent name in the fuel industry, recognized for its commitment to fuel quality, including its "TOP TIER™" certified fuels designed for engine cleanliness and performance. Its long-standing association with motor sports, such as being the official fuel of NASCAR, further underscores its brand identity focused on reliability and performance.

Located within the 19082 zip code, this station serves as a local point for drivers in Upper Darby and adjacent areas of Delaware County. In a suburban setting, gas stations are vital for daily commuting, errands, and regional travel, providing an essential service for the community. As a branded Sunoco station, it is expected to offer various grades of gasoline that meet the brand's quality standards.

However, it is imperative to acknowledge that customer feedback for this specific location raises significant concerns regarding operational efficiency and customer service. Reviews explicitly mention "slow" pumps, cleanliness issues, lack of essential supplies like napkins and hand sanitizer, and unresponsiveness from staff. These points are crucial for local users to consider as they directly impact the experience at this particular Sunoco station. This overview aims to provide a balanced picture, combining the general attributes of the Sunoco brand with the specific feedback from patrons of this Upper Darby location.

Location and Accessibility

The Sunoco gas station is strategically located at 8203 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby Township, PA 19082, USA. West Chester Pike (US Route 3) is a major arterial road, facilitating significant traffic flow between Philadelphia and various western suburbs in Delaware County. This prime location makes the station highly accessible for a wide range of drivers, including daily commuters, local residents, and those traveling through the region.

Its position on such a prominent thoroughfare ensures high visibility and relatively straightforward access. For residents of Upper Darby Township, and neighboring communities like Havertown, Newtown Square, and parts of Southwest Philadelphia, the station offers a convenient stop for refueling without requiring substantial detours from main routes. In a busy suburban environment, the ease of entering and exiting a gas station is a significant factor in its convenience.

While the geographical placement of the station is a clear advantage, providing a readily available fuel source, the actual "accessibility" experience can be impacted by operational factors. Customer reviews, for instance, highlight issues like "slow" pumps, which can extend the time spent at the station, regardless of its convenient location. Therefore, while its address points to excellent physical access, prospective users should keep in mind that the efficiency of the fueling process might be a consideration at this particular site.

Services Offered

As a Sunoco branded gas station, the core service offered at 8203 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby Township, PA, is the provision of fuel. Sunoco stations generally offer a range of gasoline grades to meet various vehicle requirements. Based on standard Sunoco offerings and common gas station services, you can expect:

  • Gasoline Sales: The station provides different grades of gasoline, typically including Regular, Mid-Grade, and Premium options. Sunoco is known for its "TOP TIER™" certified fuels, which are designed to exceed minimum EPA detergency standards and help keep engines clean. Some Sunoco locations also offer Sunoco 94 Octane, which is advertised as the highest octane fuel available at the pump.
  • Convenience Store (Implied): Most Sunoco gas stations operate an attached convenience store. These stores typically offer a variety of on-the-go items such as snacks, beverages (including coffee and cold drinks), and possibly basic automotive necessities. However, customer feedback for this specific location mentions the "place is full of expired stuff and they do sell them if people don’t notice," which is a serious concern regarding the quality and safety of convenience store offerings.
  • Payment Options: Standard payment methods usually include major credit cards, debit cards, and cash. Sunoco typically offers pay-at-the-pump functionality.
  • ATM Services: Sunoco's official location finder confirms that this specific station (#0363149606) offers ATM services, providing a convenient way for customers to withdraw cash.

It is crucial for potential customers to be aware of the negative feedback regarding the quality of convenience store items and the speed of the pumps. While fuel is available, the overall service experience, particularly regarding non-fuel purchases, appears to be a significant concern according to customer reviews.

Features / Highlights

The Sunoco station on West Chester Pike in Upper Darby Township has several features, both positive (inherent to the brand/location) and concerning (based on customer reviews):

  • Recognizable Brand Identity: As a Sunoco station, it carries the branding of a major national fuel provider. This usually implies a certain standard of fuel quality and adherence to brand specifications, including the "TOP TIER™" detergent gasoline standards, which are designed to promote engine cleanliness.
  • Strategic and Accessible Location: Positioned on West Chester Pike, a major route, the station offers high visibility and ease of access for local residents and commuters in Upper Darby Township and surrounding areas. This geographical convenience is a definite highlight for daily fueling needs.
  • 24-Hour Operation: According to Sunoco's official website, this location is listed as open 24 hours, which is a significant convenience for drivers needing to refuel at any time of day or night.
  • ATM Services: The presence of an ATM is a useful amenity for customers needing cash on hand.

However, it is essential to highlight the significant negative features reported by customers:

  • Extremely Slow Pumps: A recurring complaint is that the "pump is really slow," with one customer stating it "will take 15 min to fill the the small car tank." This severely impacts the efficiency and convenience of fueling.
  • Poor Customer Service/Unresponsive Staff: Customers report that cashiers are "always on the phone" and do not pay attention to "any complain or suggestions." One employee's reported response of "go to Wawa" to a pump speed complaint indicates a lack of customer focus.
  • Expired Product Sales: A very serious concern is the claim that the "place is full of expired stuff and they do sell them if people don’t notice." This poses a health and safety risk for convenience store purchases.
  • Lack of Safety/Sanitation Measures (COVID-era feedback): Reviews from the COVID era mention "never any napkins in the pump neither any hand sanitizer any where," and a lack of adherence to safety guidelines, reflecting a potential disregard for customer well-being.
  • High Prices & Poor Quality (Alleged): One review claims "the most expensive gas price with the most worst quality," which, if true, undermines the value proposition.

These severe negative features are crucial for prospective customers to consider when evaluating this Sunoco location.

Promotions or Special Offers

Based on the provided customer reviews, there are no specific promotions or special offers explicitly advertised for this particular Sunoco station at 8203 West Chester Pike. Customer feedback focuses heavily on operational and service issues rather than promotional benefits.

However, as a Sunoco branded location, it is generally part of the broader Sunoco network, meaning customers in Pennsylvania might be able to utilize general Sunoco loyalty programs and offers, assuming the station is fully participating and its systems are functional. These typically include:

  • Sunoco Go Rewards Program: This program often allows customers to save money per gallon when paying through the Sunoco app. This requires a functioning digital payment system at the pump or inside.
  • Sunoco Rewards Credit Card: Using this credit card can provide ongoing per-gallon savings at Sunoco stations.
  • Grocery Rewards Partnerships: In some regions of Pennsylvania, Sunoco participates in programs with grocery stores (like Weis Markets) where loyalty points earned from grocery purchases can be redeemed for fuel discounts at participating Sunoco stations.

Given the reported issues with slow pumps and potential staff unresponsiveness, the practical application of app-based or cashier-dependent promotions might be challenging or frustrating at this specific location. Customers interested in using any Sunoco-wide promotions should verify their ease of use and applicability directly at this station. The overriding concern for patrons, based on reviews, would likely be transaction efficiency and product safety, rather than promotional savings.

Contact Information

For those in Pennsylvania looking to connect with the Sunoco station at 8203 West Chester Pike in Upper Darby Township, here is the provided contact information:

  • Address: 8203 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby Township, PA 19082, USA
  • Phone: (610) 853-1750
  • Mobile Phone: +1 610-853-1750

Having both a landline and a mobile phone number provides avenues for customers to reach out. However, customer reviews explicitly state that "any complain or suggestions you give them for the sake of the store’s improvements they don’t pay any attention," implying that attempts to contact for feedback or issues might not be met with a satisfactory response. One customer even states, "I am going to reach out to the corporate to inform about this place! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!", which indicates a significant frustration that could not be resolved locally.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals

The Sunoco gas station at 8203 West Chester Pike in Upper Darby Township, Pennsylvania, presents a mixed and largely concerning picture of suitability for locals. From a purely geographical standpoint, its location on West Chester Pike, a major thoroughfare, offers undeniable accessibility for residents in Upper Darby and surrounding areas. For those who prioritize minimal detours and a location directly on their route, its physical presence is convenient. The fact that it operates 24 hours also provides round-the-clock access to fuel.

However, the overwhelming majority of customer feedback highlights significant and recurring operational deficiencies and severe lapses in customer service. Reports of "really slow" pumps, taking "15 min to fill the the small car tank," are a major detriment to efficiency, directly contradicting the convenience expected from a modern gas station. The claims of "expired stuff" being sold in the convenience store pose a serious health and safety risk, and the alleged "most expensive gas price with the most worst quality" undermines the fundamental value proposition of a fuel stop.

Furthermore, the described attitude of staff—being "always on the phone" and dismissive of "complain or suggestions"—along with an employee's suggestion to "go to Wawa," indicates a profound lack of customer care and professionalism. The strong sentiment to "reach out to the corporate" and the call for the "place needs to shut down" underscore a deep level of dissatisfaction within the local community that this station serves.

While the Sunoco brand generally implies a certain standard of fuel quality and the availability of loyalty programs, the on-the-ground experience at this particular location, as conveyed by customer reviews, appears to negate these potential benefits. For locals in Upper Darby Township seeking a reliable, efficient, safe, and customer-focused fueling experience, this Sunoco station, based on the provided feedback, may not be a suitable choice. Until significant improvements are made to address the reported pump speed, product quality, and customer service issues, locals are strongly advised to explore alternative gas stations in the area to ensure a more positive and reliable experience.

This place is beyond racist towards people of color(children and adults alike). They constantly steal from the neighborhood children by upcharging them and call them out of their names. Also each person working a shift there ,assumes that every African American person that comes in is trying to rob them. From my personal experience, I was trying to grab something from off of a shelf and a few boxes fell. I picked up the boxes , grabbed myself a drink and went to pay for my items. The cashier allowed me to pay for my items and then asked me if he could check my purse. Caught off guard I asked the cashier why? He then told me that I might have stolen a few items and he needed to check my bag. Now ImI offened due to the fact that I paid for everything I had and yet you accuse me of theft; Two, that is a major invasion of privacy. I do not recommend anyone going to this Sunoco.
